It's this group that gets me. I guess Ady, Jambe, etc who are using it for editing or review purposes would buy it but not be happy, but it reads more like people who are forced to buy the movies.

Count me in that group as well...
-_-

However, if those reports turn out to be true and either the new PT deleted scenes are of poor standards or the deleted scenes from the previous DVD release aren't included in this newer BD set, then I'll be cancelling my pre-order with two words for Uncle George.... with the last word being "Off".

I think having no material (save for the commentaries) cross over at all is a good thing. I still have all that material, I don't need it to be repeated elsewhere. I do wonder if LFL could have brought the OT deleted scenes to a level of quality that could match current standards.

The hope was that the prequel deleted scenes would carry over but be brought into HD, so that the good ones could be used in new HD fanedits.

^This times 1000% - that is the only and I repeat Only reason that I'm buying the Complete Saga BD set, to get the PT and all of it's deleted scenes in HD so I can remake my PT fanedit trilogy in HD. If the scenes aren't all in HD or aren't included in the set, then I'm basically shafted by Lucas and have no reason to remake my edits beyond SD resolution (which would royally dissappoint me...).

The first guys seem to have officially bought the complete saga set. The MF forum is discussing the content here:
http://www.millenniumfalcon.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=9089
Sounds like the DVD deleted scenes are not included. I understand not wanting to make it a complete double dip, but there's a fine line between double-dip and having to keep multiple copies of movies if you want all of the bonus features.

And the Yoda/Qui-Gon scene in Episode 3 is in animatic form with no voices. How is that a bonus feature?

To be frank, I'll believe it only when I can see it for myself (those posts really aren't that informative, to be honest).

This post includes shots of a change to the Jedi speed run from the beginning of TPM.  This is one that really needs to be seen in motion, but if done right I support this - the original effect was so unconvincing, I didn't even realize what they were going for.

Interesting, though from those screenshots I'm more curious as to why there now seems to be a tealish-blue tint throughout the video of AOTC....

EDIT:

I take back everything I said about this new digi-Yoda.

In motion it's even crappier than the original puppet.

It really looks like CGI had moved backwards since 1999 in those sequences.

The shape is more Yodaish but it moves like they aren't paying the animator enough.

That first shot of that video seemed odd to me for some reason, like there was something a little "off" with Yoda in contrast to his later scenes of the video, so I went back and checked my dvd copy of TPM for reference.... and I was right:

They did not alter the original CG Yoda model in that first shot to match the new CG Yoda model of the later scenes. Lucas, you lazy fu........

The earlier TPM shots must be taken from bad rips. This is suppose to be from the real BD and it looks kinda good me thinks. The pic with the kid has some excellent detail.

OK, those look awesome. I really hope this is what the whole transfer looks like and the others were just a bad rip.

Agreed 100%, here's hoping that those pics are indeed from the real BD.

lol, Lucas fans are clutching at straws.

http://blogs.starwars.com/teekay-421/106

I don't think that blog post is straw-clutching, because I think they've presumed George's intentions correctly. After all, George must have had intentions, no matter how horrible and ridiculous. Is it silly to guess at them?

Neither does it sound like an apologist argument. That would mean finding some crazy way to say the new "Noooo"s are an improvement. This blog post doesn't seem to do that.

I think it's clear that George wanted this moment to "rhyme" with Vader yelling "Nooooooooooo!" at the end of ROTS. In theory it's an artistically interesting choice. It's just a shame that George doesn't realise the "Noooooooo!" moment from ROTS is one of the stupidest, most laughable, cheesiest things in the entire saga. George also doesn't seem to care that Vader's silence in this scene was always a point of strength and good drama, which can only be spoiled by voicing his feelings.

Why do people keep on saying the scene with the added "Nooooo" now mirrors the scene in ROTS? The scene without the audio tweaks mirrored a scene in ROTS already and was a lot better than Vader's "birth" scene.

My favourite scene in ROTS (yes such a thing does exist) is the bit where Anakin is alone in the council chamber and in silence looks out across the vast city contemplating what to do. At the same moment, Padme stands in her apartment looking out towards the Jedi Temple. Anakin finally makes up his mind and rushes off to stop Windu killing Palpatine, an action that will ultimately lead him to the dark side.

This scene doesn't need dialogue and as I say is one of my favourite scenes. It mirrors Vader looking on in silence as Palpatine is slowly killing Luke. He makes his decision and turns on the Emperor, an action that ultimately leads to his redemption from the dark side.

Sadly, I doubt Lucas intended these scenes to mirror each other. People who think the added "NOOOOO" is the perfect mirror to the one in ROTS sadly misinterpret repetition as a form of mirroring.

It isn't, it's lazy storytelling that over explains it for sake of the few who don't understand what is going on. Even as a child, I enjoyed the scene in Jedi because despite the mask, you knew what Vader was thinking and no dialogue was needed. Then or now!

^This times over nine thousand.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works
Time

It's been a long while since I lasted posted in this thread (or even the site in general), but just wanted to give a quick note that I will be working on a set of brand new HD cuts of these fanedits (along with revised SD releases) once I receive my Complete Saga BD set from Amazon.

And there will most likely be a few new surprises here and there as well...

from MF.com

"Jedi Rocks" is still there and unchanged.

Vader's "NO's" have been added. The first sounds like it has been sloppily laid on top of the mix, the second is from ROTS.

See, that just freaking pisses me off.... you have Lucas with a sh*t-ton on money to throw at this release, to "improve" it as he "sees fit", yet he can't hire James Earl Jones or even Chad Vader for one damn day to do some new voice work, he just recycles that BS line from ROTS over the audio mix and think's it'll sound perfectly fine when it won't. -_-

I suppose I shouldn't so disappointed about this news, however much it is a completely massive amount of bullsh*t on Lucas's part - Return of the Jedi has been dead to me for quite a while (many thanks to Uncle George for adding that retarded Jabba Palace musical number, that needless montage of the galaxy celebrating, and Hayden F****ing Christensen as Anakin's ghost....), so it's not like Lucas can screw up the movie any more than he already has for me personally.

Regardless of this news, though, I'll still be keeping my pre-order for the BD set and I still have every intention on making new HD versions of my Prequel Edit trilogy once I get my hands on the BD set.

The "no" is what kills me the most; the rest of these are inconsequential, as I could always go back to anything from before. But, for the climax of Return to be changed like that in such a way...

It's not the first time that the ending of RotJ was royally f***ed over....

Pandora (Avatar fanedit) - V2 HD & SD releases coming soon (Released)
Time

Brother Beck said:

Any word on how it is coming...?

Yeah, sorry, it's been a while since I gave any news on this one - technically, the edit is 100% finalized, but rendering and working on the MKV release got delayed due to a few things:

- rendering AVC video in Sony Vegas 10 has proven to be a mega-f***ing pain in the ass... even with the 10.0c program update, the render craps out around the 35-40 minute mark of the video, which results in the video going from detail and perfect to pixilated, blurry, and nasty garbage.

It's taken me a long while to find a solution to this mess, but thankfully, I got some good advice from someone and now am rendering my HD video projects to lossless Lagarith AVIs and then converted those to x264 video files through MeGUI. However, this also leads to my current problem:

- A LOT of hard drive space is required for a 1920x1080 Lagarith AVI file and right now, my HD space is currently dedicated to another Edit project of mine (a Mass Effect 2 episodic video series). I'm ordering another 640GB hard drive soon, so hopefully I'll be able to render the Pandora V2 Lagarith AVI and render the x264 file from that sometime in the next two weeks.

I'm pretty sure that he also rotoscoped out the "slow steam" effect from the shot of Anakin and Padme arriving in the Geonosis factory, as well as some rotoscoping work in the scene with Dooku and Mace in the Geonosis Arena with the Jedi in the background (since he did some scene readjusting with when the Jedi appeared in the story).

Is this in the commentary? I don't recall...

Yeah it believe it was, along with a couple of those easter-eggs within the movie which showed what he had composited/rotoscoped.

Pandora (Avatar fanedit) - V2 HD & SD releases coming soon (Released)
Time

I know that news for the V2 cut has been pretty slow and delayed, and that's basically been because I've been working on and testing my newly built workstation on the extents of its HD editing capabilities (to which it can easily handle, I must say :D ).

Satisfied with that, I started looking over my new Blu-ray video footage of Avatar and comparing it to the DVD video sources which I had initially used to redo the V2 and well.... I sorta realized.... that there is no stinking comparison, the HD video simple TROUNCES the old DVD video, period.

So right now, I'm in the process of updating all the video sources for the Pandora V2 with the new HD sources in Vegas and will be releasing the edit in both an HD mkv version and an SD AVI version (or the SD version may be the DVD version, I still haven't decided on that yet).

Funny enough, I had intended my post to be in jest and not to be taken seriously. But as is the case with everything online, someone with way too much time on their hands went and took what I said seriously and, in an attempt to belittle my ego as being without worth while trying to build themselves up to be an intellectual demigod on the subject, wrote a banal post scrutinizing my previous post word-for-freaking-word.

Hmm, You know what? I think I'll give that a try as well. :P

On the audio commentary to the Matrix films, the "critics" at one point, point out the seeming contradiction between "don't think you are, KNOW you are", and "your mind makes it real".

Then some dumb twerp kid says "it's not the spoon bending, it's yourself", and then seconds after "there is no spoon". What??!

It's just your typical vague pseudo-philosophical, pseudo-mystical mumbo jumbo, that falls apart under the slightest application of scrutiny, but can certainly be reconciled within itself using some kind of apologetic mental gymnastics.

For future reference, if you're going to post a quote that you intend to lambaste and then run a tangent on with your pseudo-jargon BS, please get the quote right:

Child: "Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth."
Neo: "The truth?"
Child: "There is no spoon."
Neo: "There is no spoon?"
Child: "Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends, it is only yourself."

Wow.... I am so glad that I don't give enough of a sh*t to listen to so-called reviewers to tell me what and how I should think of a motion picture, regardless of whether they are personally for or against said film, otherwise I too would end up in pointless and meaningless arguments with anonymousness and oftentimes ignorant people over the internet on my personal views as to why I honestly believe that a certain movie or movies sucks ass. :P

I'm still undecided on adding the first school scene and Tsu'tey's full death (the latter mostly because I question why Jake is back in his Avatar body already after the damage to the station they were using...I'll have to watch that bit again).

I was a little iffy on that one too, but decided to keep it in my edit - I did, however, change the cut from Neytiri to the Navi in the woods from a hard cut to a soft transition between scenes to try and give a better sense that a little bit of time had passed between the two events (with the hard cut that Cameron used, it seemed like the Tsu'tey's death scene was occurring just moments after Neytiri saves Jack).

Maybe the video log shots could just be shrunk to fit in the 2.39:1 frame?  As in, black bars on the sides (which, I suppose, would mean windowboxing them, as it'd be black bars all around)?  I don't think it'd be distracting, and it'd make the video log shots feel different than the rest of the film, which they currently don't.

That's a good idea - just tried it out and it works well, so I've gone and done that for all of Jake's Vlog shots.

Oddly enough, the camera shots from the new "Drums of War" segment (where the soldier is sending video to Quaritch on the Navi's attack of the bulldozer) doesn't suffer from this same problem and it's overlay graphics work perfectly with the 2.35:1 matte.
