JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works
Time

So after much debating, I've decided to make my version of TPM (which is called "Attack of the Federation") a part of these edits continuity. This edit is my attempt to take the best aspects of the various TPM fanedits out there (Phantom Editor, Slumberland, ADigitalMan, Magnoliafan, ect) and combine them into one great version:

EDIT: Added the cutlist to the first post of the thread.

THE MATRIX EVOLUTIONS (Ver.2 DVD release now available)

Last month, I released a new "2.0" version of this fanedit in DVD format with many improvements made to the edit's content, along with its audio/video quality (I've updated the fanedit info on the first page to include the new changes/edits):

Here's a preview clip (Morpheus's fight with an Agent):

How about this?:

Its more menacing and its cool to have a sith (apart from Mr Vader)

Eh... no, I'm perfectly fine with Sidious and Vader being the only Sith in the plot.
(I'm mean, they're suppose to be like a secret society, right? Wouldn't be much of a secret if every enemy turned out to be a Sith, I think...)

ben_danger: The method I used for the clip shown was to go in frame by frame and paint the lightsaber a different tint by hand. The program I used was Bauhaus Mirage (the predecessor to TVPaint), which is kinda like a mix between Photoshop and After Effects. Granted, it's not the fastest method, but it gives me the best and most accurate results (using vector masks in Vegas was a lot quicker, but the final image isn't as good-looking in my opinion).

Octorox: I thought about making it green, but for the Twilight of the Republic (AofC) edit, I kinda wanted Dooku's lightsaber to be a different color than either Anakin's or Obi-wan's. Because of that, I carried over the same purple lightsaber over to the The Black Knight Rises (RotS) edit to maintain series continuity.

And here's the finished "Obi-wan/Anakin VS Count Dooku, round 2" from EP3, where I've completely rotoscoped Dooku's lightsaber from "Sith"-red to purple (since he's still a Jedi and is not a Sith in these edits):

Those that have seen my previous "Shadows of the Old Republic" edit will probably remember this edit - Obi-wan's space battle with Jango's Slave-1 (still one of my favorite edits that I've done):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBwyUh0UD94

Now this scene was not part of my "Shadows" edit (since it didn't really work within the context of that edit's story), but this is when Anakin is denied the rank of Master on the Jedi council and is tasked by Obi-wan to find out the truth behind Palpatine - I've edited it to further develop the Jedis' suspicions of Palpatine (also added the deleted scene "A Plot to Destroy the Jedi?" back into the film, although I'll probably change the scene transition to something better), ro increase Anakin's anger toward the Council, and to remove any mention of the "Chosen One" prophecy:

The idea of redubbing the Trade Federation is great from Magnoliafan (though I don't like the garbled speach used in that edit the subtitles making them darker slave traders is genius). Keeping Jar-Jar a funny clot but actually funny (from Slumberland), Anakin is better in The Phantom Edit (here I reach the outer edge of my Phantom Menace edit knowledge). ADM made a great job of putting deleted material back in.

Giving the battledroids sinister voices is something that has yet to be pulled off convincingly in my experience (though trimming has been done well in a couple of the versions I've seen).

Hopefully when Adywan comes to do his he will borrow from the best and add his own polish as Octorox suggests.

Maybe I'll take a look into doing such a project after I finish my "Starkiller Saga" edits of Ep2 & Ep3 (though I might be dead tired of SW by that time).

As for the droids, I actually liked the idea of removing their voices like Phantom Editor did in his edits.

The reason we are here is because sometimes a director, editor or studio exec can be so on top of a project they can't see the forest for the trees (or the planks in the case of some actor performances).

The Phantom Editor showed that even without access to the cutting room floor it is possible to improve a scene by cutting even more (look at his take on Anakin's Force test scene) and some of the deleted material that is available does arguably work better than some of the material that wasn't deleted (a prime example being the Mace/Obi Wan conversation scene which was deleted from AOTC vs the Mace/Obi-Wan/floating Yoda scene that wasn't).

So even without Adywan's Adobe skills it is possible to work wonders with what is already to hand.

Which is exactly the point of my last post.

If you watch Slumberland's take on the Gungan scenes in TPM, Jar-Jar is still Jar-Jar, Boss Nass is still Boss Nass (no re-dubs or subtitles) but they work as designed much better (I wrote this elsewhere on here Jar-Jar actually made me laugh for the first time in a decade thanks to having the majority of his silly scenes removed, it improved the slap-schtick timing).

Hmm, I haven't seen Slumberland's edits yet, but you've peaked my curiousity (a better Jar-Jar would be great, but hopefully that also extends to a better Anakin as well)

The problem is, no matter how good the ideas, unless fan editors start to raid movie studios for all those deleted scenes there won't be enough material to reshape a story, and then it takes a pro like Adywan to make it into something to rival the official director's cut.

Even if there are numerous deleted scenes, that doesn't mean there will be enough footage to tell a better story or that those scenes are an improvement to the story - it all depends on the decisions of the filmmakers/studio and what they choose to film/edit/CG/etc in the first place. I also don't understand why you'd bring up an edit/s needing to be as good as an "official director's cut" since being a DC is no indication that the film will be better (hell, you could argue that Lucas's 2004 DVD release of SW was his "director's cut"...)

Original Info:

Lately, I’ve been reading the e-book version of The Secret History of Star Wars (http://www.secrethistoryofstarwars.com)

and thinking a lot about the Prequel trilogy and what they ultimately mean towards the original SW films. In going over these thoughts, I’ve realized something important about my previous attempt at a SW Prequel fanedit, Shadows of the Old Republic:

I’m not really as satisfied with it as I thought.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like some of the work that I did on that edit. However, as a narrative work that details the events prior to Star Wars, I think that that story does work better as a series of films… abit, ones that could be greatly improved over it’s original “Lucas” forms. Therefore, I’ve decided to go ahead and create my own versions of The Phantom MenaceAttack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith

SW: SHADOWS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC (3-in-1 Prequel Film) ** V2 cut AVI Release Now Available
Time

The release has been slightly delayed due to a rather odd problem with Vegas: every time I try to render out the ac3 file, the audio track for Jango's voice gets out of sync and is moved to 15 minutes later in the sountrack, making the resulting ac3 file unusable.
Hopefully I can figure out this problem in time to get the xvid version released by Wednesday.

SW: SHADOWS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC (3-in-1 Prequel Film) ** V2 cut AVI Release Now Available

I finished up the Star Wars crawl this morning and the mpv and ac3 files is being rendered out of Vegas as we speak (which is what I'll use to create the Xvid version).
The Edit is now 150 minutes and 37 seconds (or just over 2 and a half hours).

Akwat Kbrana: I've been working on it since early June, so it's been about 4-5 weeks. On the "Obi-Wan vs. Anakin" scenes, yeah, a lot of the indoor lightsaber duel was removed - and yes, the "Chosen One" subplot was also removed completely from the story.

GoodMusician: If you're talking about the end of Episode 1 and 2 segments being "skitsafrenic", it might seem like that to you because a lot of the plot for Episode 1 and 2 have been re-edited/restructured, so it probably is confusing to watch without the rest of the film to provide context.

SW: SHADOWS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC (3-in-1 Prequel Film) ** V2 cut AVI Release Now Available
Time

Can Be Found Online At:
http://fanedit.org/8997/

Notes:
Originally based off a very rough cut of EP1 and EP2 by jra166, this fanedit was my first time working with the Star Wars Prequels and combined Episodes 1-3 into a single movie film which rewrote the story to have a major focus on Obi-Wan during his life in the Old Republic and a secondary focus on the young Jedi Anakin's fall to the Dark Side and rise as Darth Vader. Initially, I was not at all satisfied with how this edit turned out, which is what led me to work on the films individually and create my own fanedit trilogy of the Prequels instead. Much later on after learning new editing techniques and getting requests from several viewers, I decided to come back to the SOTOR edit and revise it for a V2 release, re-editing the fanedit into a movie about the past of the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi which I am much more satisfied with.

FanEdit Information
Type of Fanedit: True Fanedit
Intention With This Edit: This is a single film with a major focus on Obi-Wan before his life as a hermit on Tatooine and a secondary focus of his apprentice Anakin’s fall to the Dark Side and rise as Darth Vader.

Best Methods to Capture Analog VHS (Macrovision encoded) to Computer/Digital
Time
I'm kinda gearing up to work on 2 Preservations that are only available on VHS: Jim Henson's holiday special The Christmas Toy and an animated special from the mid-80s called The Blinkins (while produced for the US, it was animated by anime studio TMS and featured work from several individuals who would later go to work for Studio Ghibli).

The Preservations will end up on DVD, so I need to rip the VHSs to computer for digital restoration and encoding. However, there is an issue that I'm facing at the moment: because the VHS tapes are from the only official releases that the shows had, the tapes have Macrovision encoding that needs to be removed during the conversion. Of course, this isn't a feature that I'm easily able to find on consumer Analog-to-Digital converters.

So, I guess what I'm asking is:
For those of you who have done such conversion from consumer VHS for Digital Preservation, what methods have you used or what methods do you think are best for converting Macrovision-encoding VHS to the computer?

Hey I was just viewing these forums and found this particular thread
I realize that so many people extremely want a Twice Upon A Time laserdisc transfer with uncut audio

Well, I happened to find a laserdisc version of this movie with the extended scenes, and I also had a dvd (bad quality/worse-than-vhs quality) of the uncut. So i decided to work with what I had, and I ended up putting the uncut audio onto the laserdisc video version, so now I have a DVD/Laserdisc quality version of the uncut. I burned what I made onto a dvd and make cover art for it.
Here is a sample of the quality

I can sell it to anyone interested
I dont really want to release it on a torrent because I seem to be the only person who owns the dvd quality version on dvd

1. Still images tell us nothing about the quality of the final

2. You're not the only person to have the uncut version of Twice ripped on DVD.

3. I am NOT going to pay money for a Preservation - selling film preservations is not allowed here... period.

THE MATRIX EVOLUTIONS (Ver.2 DVD release now available)

Originally posted by: Invascms
Having downloaded and watched the film, and enjoyed it much more than the originals I should add, I have a quick question. This is coming from an editing background, so I subconsciously analyze movies that way now. Anyway, to the question;

- Was it just me or did the sequences with Niobe and Ghost seem, well, jammed in there? For instance, when the highway chase was going on there was all this excitement and then suddenly we see them getting a call from someone. Maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention. Same thing with them and the first Trainman scene. I didn't really understand why that was in there.

Of course, I did just watch the version I got off some random torrent, so maybe it's not the final one. None of this ruined the experience by the way, I'm just curious as to your reasons, Jason.

The two "Niobe/Ghost" scenes (which were taken from Enter the Matrix) were added for a few reasons:

- The "Tunnels/72 Hours" scene was added partly for some reasons of my own (mostly esoteric stuff in relation to The Matrix), but I had also wanted to introduce the Trainman at an earlier point of the film instead of the way it was done in Revolutions and to have his words lead to concern in Niobe (which would cause her to ignore Locke decision to stay in Zion and go after Morpheus and Neo).

- The "Car Start" scene replaced the original version in Reloaded because I removed all the scenes with Link in the 'Real' World and I needed a scene to show the audience that Niobe had in fact left Zion and entered the Matrix in search of Morpheus.

DrGonzo369: No, it's not Family Guy.
But... it is from a movie that came out the same year as The Matrix

are the scenes from thegame actual video or game graphics ? do they match screen ratio wise etc ?

There's a torrent available, but it's also on Rapidshare, which is slightly better than the torrent version (just some additional tweaks to the audio and visual quality)
For the Rapidshare version, go to fanedit.org

The Enter the Matrix scenes that were used are the live-action segments from the game, which were ripped from the Ultimate Matrix Collection (and the aspect ratios do match)

THE MATRIX EVOLUTIONS (Ver.2 DVD release now available)

Progress on the DVD version has been going VERY SLOWLY - I had a bunch of crap going on in life and kinda had to put it on the backburner at times.
I hope (repeat, hope) to have it finished by the second week of March.

On the plus side, I will be adding another extra to the DVD:
When I first started work on this edit (many, many months ago...), I had concepted another ending instead of the current one that's one the Edit. Although the 1st ending had a few interesting ideas to it, I ultimately decided not to use it and created the current ending in it's place, which I feel is much more satisfying and engaging. However, I thought maybe a few people might like to see it, so I'll be including it on the DVD as an easter egg.

Hint: the "first" ending uses footage from a film that's not part of the Matrix
