JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works
Time

Thanks to everyone who took the time to post your thoughts and comments on the edits

For the DVD versions, I will be doing some revisions and tweaks to the edits to try and improve them further based on the critiques that I've recieved, including the films' titles crawls - I'm not terribly sure exactly why they ended up being as slow as they were (especially since they were all created of the same base file and all used the exact same settings, yet some turned out slower than others), but I'll be working on them over the weekend for better pacing and spelling corrections.

Now onto individual comments:

ChainsawAsh
ATTACK OF THE FEDERATION
- The shot rearrangement at the end of the film between Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme was intentional; it was based off the same version that The Phantom Editor used in the PE, which I liked due to the foreshadowing that the rearrangement implied

TWILIGHT OF THE REPUBLIC
- Not exactly sure why the Fox opening is off (it shouldn't be), but I'll look into it
- I'll probably be replacing that Zam changling shot, so then she changes only when she dies
- As far as the Anakin/Padme Kiss scene, yes the scene transition is kinda abrupt, but there's nothing I can really do about it (not without going back to the original where Padme pulls away, which I don't want to do)
- Ok, I took a look at that Dooku/Mace scene that you were talking about and yes, the audio is out of sync; I assumed this happen when I replaced the Dooku shot (since I had to composite the Jedi out of the background), but I'll fix this for the DVD version

Akwat Kbrana
TWILIGHT OF THE REPUBLIC
- For the Picnic and Anakin's "If it works", I think it works better with the flirtiness and not ending it after Anakin's line; at this point of the PT, I do not feel that Anakin should be portrayed as having a dark or evil side (that's really the job of EP3)
- I never really cared for the Jango/Obi-Wan fight and agreed with how the PE cut it in his edit, so I used his version as a base
- That "Obi-Wan continuity issue" in the Dooku duel was part of the original version; I don't have any shots of Obi-Wan's backside to composite him into the scene, but it never bothered me that much that he was missing (I'm too busy watching Anakin and Dooku fight)

THE BLACK KNIGHT RISES
- Sorry, but I will never, ever add the "Yoda/Sidious" fight back into my fanedit

Also, just out of curiousity, what did everyone think of the revised "Order 66" and "Obi-Wan VS Anakin" sequences in Black Knight Rises? (these two were my favorites of the edits I made to EP3)

He was already a commander when he was frozen. Besides, how many officers were volunteering to pilot a crummy ship under Darth Vader's nose.

Last time I checked, a Commander is NOT a General. Also, why does he need to be promoted to one of the highest ranks in the Rebellion just to lead the mission to Endor?

When it comes down to it, he said he was sorry, but never really paid any consequences for his betrayal.  Instead he was promoted to "General" and given command of a crucial assault on the Death Star.

I love how anytime an editor suggests an edit/cut in the attempt of make a SW film better or improving it, the purists automatically balk and say that the edit will be no good, even though the fanedit in question is years away from completion and they have no idea how it'll all turn out.

From a narrative standpoint, Return of the Jedi is terribly written with poorer characterization, editing, and direction than the two films that preceeded it. If an editor is to salvage the movie and improve its story, drastic changes and cuts may be necessary.
- For Adywan, that may mean killing off Lando or Leia or R2-D2 or whoever else (although where is his posts does he say that exactly? Seriously, I can't find it anywhere in his thread).
- For my planned RotJ edit, that means cutting the "Leia is Luke's twin" and "Han/Leia romance" subplots and trying to edit a new ending that reflects some of the more "bitter" aspects of the original drafts of Jedi (although I am still looking into how feasible a new ending would be, as it would require far more editing/compositing than I've done on the Prequels)

AxiaEuxine, I believe I gave you this advice when you made your "list" on my Prequel thread, but if you don't like the changes that a faneditor makes, you're obviously NOT going to like the resulting fanedit. If you truly want to see a specific change or cut, there is nothing stopping you from making your own edit of the movie.

Info: Is this site cool with "fanedit.org?"
Time

For the record, FE didn't take your money - you spent it yourself in order to download from RS at a faster rate than a standard member (which would've been free for you, but taken longer to get all the files).

Your review was voided because another member found that the fanedit under review had too many technical flaws to be approved for posting on the main FE site.

As for you're banning, considering the fact that:
- you displayed very little appreciation or interest in fixing the technical issues that plagued some of your edits and that you insulted people when they suggested otherwise
- you argued and insulted other members that they were too "narrow-minded" to get what you were trying to accomplish and that they should just accept your "vision" no matter how many technical issues/flaws were in the movie, just because you say that it's "better" than the original version
- you hijacked another member's thread in order to further complain and accuse members of "playing favorites" with certain edits and to further argue about the disapproval of one of your edits (despite being repeatedly warned by the mods)

Well, I'm not suprised that you were banned from the site.

JasonN's PT FanEdits (Attack of the Federation, Twilight of the Republic, & The Black Knight Rises) (Released) ** Revised V3 Cuts In The Works

For the record, I am officially done with any and all discussions regarding the colors of Jedi lightsabers (it gets to be too much of a headache for me to deal with) - I am very happy with the rotoscoping work that I've done for my edits and in the choices that I've made in giving Yoda, Mace, and Dooku the same color lightsaber.

If you want to see all the Jedis lightsabers be green, you're going to have to rotoscope them yourself.
(because I'm sure  as heck not going to do it)

I painted/tinted the lightsaber directly on the video frame by frame using a Wacom tablet in Bauhaus Mirage, which is kind of like After Effects, but it has a lot more of the 2D capabilities of Photoshop or Corel Painter (so its like a PS for compositing and animation) - its no longer available for sale, but its successor software is called TVPaint. Hypothetically, though, the process could also be done in PS (except instead of painting on the video file, you'd have to paint on the frames as Tiff or Targa images).

I hate how everyone changes the pan in AOTC. That it was reversed was one of the truly poetic aspects to that movie. The idea is that the universe in AOTC is somewhat "flipped" from it's state in the conventional Star Wars movies. We don't know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. It's a curious oddity and it establishes that something isn't quite right. Flipping the shot is dumbing down the movie IMO and ruining a really poetic moment.

To each his own, I guess.  -_-

ok look i just want all the pt lightsabers blue minus yoda tp gove more meaning to what vader said to luke about his lightsaber

He didn't say anything about the meaning/s of the color of Luke's new lightsaber - all he said was that Luke had constructed a new lightsaber and that his skills were now complete (ergo, that constructing a lightsaber was somehow the final step or task of a Jedi's abilities).

If people had a problem with Dooku's lightsaber being purple, then they're really going to hate this change:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kpPhJvFeIs

Basically, these are my reasons for changing Yoda's lightsaber color (and I talked about this in the Radical Prequel thread as well):

Thinking about the idea of Dooku and Mace having a similar position on the Jedi Council (Grand Master, perhaps?), I'm beginning to wonder if maybe I should also rotoscope Yoda's lightsaber to be purple as well in my EP3 edit (when he dispatches the two clonetroopers who are trying to kill him on Kahshiek). I know some people hate purple lightsabers, but if Yoda, Mace, and Dooku all shared a similar high position on the Council, then maybe their lightsabers should have the same color.

The biggest question that I always had with AotC and RotS was why Mace should be the only one to have a purple lightsaber in the PT (except ultimately there was no significant purpose to it... maybe Lucas did it for s**ts and giggles, I don't know), so why not put his lightsaber's color to an effective use?

I'm not saying that there needs to be a strict or rigid "Ranking System" for the Jedi, not at all. But since Yoda and Mace do seem to be at the very top of the Jedi Order, why not present a visual indication of that higher mastery? (and purple/violet is often regarded to be one of the highest "color ranks" in symbolism, according to some of the esoteric/mystery religions that I've researched and studied)

Dooku being a Sith is a good idea, remember Sidious only uses Dooku to start the war and Dooku is but a 'nesserary loss'. Making him a rogue jedi starts bringing up issues like 'grey' jedi etc.

Which means that you will most likely not care for my fanedits of EP2/EP3.

DuTwan said:

Lightsaber colour is an important decision in Jedi lightsaber construction. Obi Wan chose blue and Qui Gon chose Green. There own personal choice. Remember that Jedi are very similar to Samurai in many respects and the soul of the person and the blade are one and the same, a sword in laser form or not in an extention of themselves. Does that mean Darth Vader in gonna have purple because he is a Lord? course not he is gonna be red, why? Because Anakin turned to evil and slaughtered many, the red blood colour is an extention of his new form.

Ok, now you're trying to explain the symbolism of a lightsaber's color, so why is it so terrible for me or other people to try and do the same?

DuTwan said:

People are now gonna bring up the issue of why has Mace got a purple lightsaber then?

Samuel L. Jackson asked for it, comics told us why. A bit of EU that i actually like, Mace went out and personally looked for it.

Though i personally hate this rainbow of lightsaber colours that LucasArts etc have given us, the only one i do like for its individuality is Mace's. Does that mean things like Jango gonna be recoloured to Boba costume? No coz boba personalised it. To make most people have blue just seems borin too tbh, sorry about the rant lmao, gets to me sometimes ya know?

Lucas should never have colored a lightsaber differently than the others just because the actor requested it - there is a visual consistency and continuity that already existed with the lightsabers and adding a new color with no explanation behind it is yet another example of Lucas poor craftmanship that went into the development of these film.

Ok, I'm done participating in this "saber color" arguement.
Let's move on to another topic of the PT that could be changed.

As far as the lightsabers go, I think I like the idea of the purple saber being set aside for the Jedi who is falling or who is not conforming to the dictates of the council.  Using color to determine rank is to 'Imperial' for me, if you take my meaning.  I want the lightsaber colors to have an 'emotional' or symbolic meaning rather than a military one.

But my point is, what is the symbolism of Mace Windu's lightsaber color?
Lucas gave us absolutely no reason why Mace should be the only one to have a purple lightsaber in the PT (maybe he did it for s**ts and giggles...), so why not put the color of his lightsaber to an effective use?

all this lightsaber colors are annoying if adywan gets to the prequels, let all the jedi have blue lightsabers except for windu, yoda and dooku, they should have green to reinforce the rarity of such color and what vader says to luke in rotj

Yeah... because no faneditor will ever make the PT into a good or halfway decent set of films... except for Adywan, of course. :/

EDIT: Please note that I am not bashing Adywan - he's an excellent editor and it was through his Revisited edit that brought back my interest in Star Wars (something that I thought had been dead for the last ten years). However, I am just slightly tired and annoyed of coming across people that have this absolute-unyielding belief that unless your name is Adywan, your fanedit/s are worth less than s**t.

it would be kinda cool having yoda as purple, then it would be like the three purple sabers all fail to stop sidious.

Except that I completely removed the Yoda/Sidious duel from the film. ;)

Still, this might be an idea worth pursuing  - yes, I  know some people hate purple lightsaber, but since Yoda and Mace share a similar position on the Council, there should be some visual signifier as to their rank and the lightsaber color would work to that effect (the biggest question that I always had with AotC and RotS was why was Mace's lightsaber the only one that was purple; if Yoda, Mace, and Dooku all shared a similar high position on the Council, then maybe their lightsabers should have the same color)

No, that must be someone else, cause I keep the Sifa-Dias reference in my edit.

There is a lot to like here, while some people just don't like purple lightsabres, it creates the impression that before going off the rails (and Sith or not this Dooku is off the rails, he's killing Jedi when he doesn't need to, he could get into his ship with Obi-Wan and Anakin disabled with ease but goes in for the kill giving Anakin a chance to keep the duel going) Dooku held the same position on the council that Mace does.

I actually tried to rework the scene so that the reason why Dooku goes in to attack Obi-Wan is because he grab his lightsaber back using the Force, indicating that he's still continuing his fight and giving Dooku no choice, but to strike back.
(hopefully that came across to the viewer, but like a lot of fanedited scenes, it's subjective, though)

Bingowings said:

Tyrannus only gets a mention in a few scenes which perhaps Jason has snipped around already.

Yeah, I removed all mention of Tyrannus from my EP2 edit.
(so now when Obi-Wan asks Jango about Syfa-Dias, Jango says he's never heard of him and then just asks Obi-Wan if he likes his "army")

Ok, so I posted this in my edit thread (since it's a part of my fanedits of EP2/EP3), but since this thread is about changing the fundamental nature of the Prequels, I thought it'd be a good idea to post this concept for the Count Dooku character:

- turn Dooku from an evil Sith Lord into a rebel Jedi fighting against the Republic to bring down the mysterious Darth Sidious.
