Tales of the New Republic - fan film
Time
Well, the official site is now saying there there will be a "must see surprise" on sunday. I wonder if they are connected. Actually it looks like the announcement with be related to the Clone Wars animated series.

I read elsewhere that the talesofthenewrepublic webiste did have a hidden email link on it yesterday. The email address was a gmail one, so people are speculating that this must indeed be a fan made project. Having said they there are some answered questions:

- If this is unofficial, why haven't LFL come down on them like a tonne of bricks?
- Why do Gentle Giant list their maquettes as "Star Wars Animated"?
- Why can't I just wait until tomorrow?

Things are going very slowly at the moment. I barely seem to have the time do work on this project. When I get the the autumn/winter I will definately have more time. Please keep sending your ideas and suggestions though. I really do appreciate them.

Talking of which, if anyone has scanned in all the matte paintings from the new book, please contact me.

Thanks

UK Total Film Magazine SW Supplemenet
Time
This months (July 2007) issue of Total Film has a supplement called "The Secret Visual History of Star Wars'.

"Total Film presents an exclusive selection of vivid and intimate pictures snapped on the fly by a young photographer invited onto the set of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Luke flies! Leia pouts! Lucas mopes!"

What it is is 18 black and white photos by Robert Carlyle (you can see some on Darth Neo's site), some of which you will have seen, some which will be new to you. Nonetheless it's quite nice little mag.

Making of Star Wars (New Book) Discussion
Time
Thanks for the update bigbaddaddyvader, that script is very cool.

On the subject of Midi-chlorians; Having read lots of SW related material over the years, it seems that Lucas had a plethora of ideas that weren't used for financial reasons or were dismissed or discouraged by those around him. In creating a universe and characters it's clearly important to have some background as a reference. Remember Oz writing his own Yoda background to help him act the part? The point is that the background doesn't have to be relayed to the audience.

I just think it's a shame that many of Lucas's rejected ideas were recycled for the PT. Many of them were previously dismissed for good reason.

Just in the same way that explaining how a magic trick works, giving us a 'canon' description, it takes away the impact and mystique. For me, Lucas managed to strip away 23 years of mystique in about 2 hours by mapping out the science of The Force and making all those weak connections between the characters of the PT and OT.

One thing that this book does well is avoid making these connections. It purely looks at the conception and creation of the first Star Wars film. I'll shut up now.

Originally posted by: MarvoloSomething interesting I found on StarWars.com's new analysis feature of Star Wars, is that originally the Star Wars title card and the actual crawl were together like the Episode title and the crawl are now. And that the Star Wars tittle came up from the bottom of the screen just like the rest of the crawl. That would have looked different.

Thanks Marvolo. I actually read the very same thing, clarifying what I had already assumed about the old crawl going on the photographic evidence. But it's good to get confirmation.

S7en, thanks for those links, they are very interesting indeed.

Thanks guys. Sluggo, here is that picture for you (sorry, it's a photo rather than a scan). Your 2D reconstruction looks pretty accurate slugs.

I wonder if rebel_1138 is still around (haven't seen him in a while). He may be able to reconstruct the crawl for my project.

Also, has anyone got a sound effect of Luke's Landspeeder please? The only one I have is a 'flyby' and not suitable for what I need.
