Help Wanted: Original Jabba footage - HELP NEEDED
Time
Deleted Magic does indeed show all that is available as far as we know. But I am reconstructing it for my 'Star Wars Begins' project. Firstly because I promised OCP that I wouldn't rip anything from his doco and secondly because we may be able to get the footage from better quality sources this time around. In fact Fanfiltrations "Making Magic" already offers a better quality source than the one used for 'DM'.

Also, you never know what might just turn up!

Hi guys,

I am on the scrounge again.

1) I am looking for all your original Jabba scene photographs. If you have any photos of Jabba as played by Declan Mulholland, I would be grateful if you could post them here or send them to me. This includes hi-res scans of the Marvel adaptation please.

2) Here is my Jabba reconstruction so far. I've not done any proper colour correction yet, just a few tweaks. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If anyone has compositing experience please get in contact.

3) If any of you want to come to my house and colour correct all the portions of the Jabba scene, please volunteer now! Seriously.

Many thanks
JD

Thanks Russs, I knew I had seen your work somewhere!

Belbucus has created an audio file with the Dolby mix in one channel and the mono mix in the other, synched to the GOUT DVD. This would help in identifying the changes, but from what I gather there are numerous minor differences that are probably not worth mentioning. I could help converting video to PAL for you, but I don't have any of the Jabba material.

Moth3r, where can I get this file? Is it for syncing with PAL or NTSC GOUT?

I have all the Jabba material, I just need to collect it all together and get it converted. I will be in contact.

Rick2525, Thanks for all those suggestions. I must admit, 'Star Wars Begins' by far my favourite so far. You know what? I am going to go with it.

My work on the project has been a little slow of late. I've been away so much. I also lost motivation after a lead for some VERY cool material dried up. I know it's out there I just need to work out how to get to it.

If I start asking people to assist me, I don't think a subtitle track would be that useful, as it is something I do as I go along. The placement of the text often depends on timing. These subtitles are also burned in to the picture unlike those in 'Deleted Magic'.

There are some things that people could help me with though:

- Suggestions of facts & info for the 'subtitles' (please PM these to me)
- I could do with somebody collating all of the Jabba material and converting it all to PAL.
- A definitive list of the mono mix differences would be good.
- I would love to see your ideas for a 'Star Wars Begins' title screen.
- DVD menu designs.
- Any suggestions of how else you could help are always appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I totally see your point, but I live in the UK and only owned the PAL version. Plus this was a massive learning curve for me. I really did it to teach myself Final Cut Pro.

Luke's first alternate line is also about the intination of the speech. Yes there is a pitch difference, but that's not why it is different.

As for the "you guys did a great job" comment, actually it was just "me"

Thanks for your interest.

Badly [hangs head]. It ended up taking hours to get there, an hour to queue and it was just too busy to get into the autograph hall. There was at least a 2h30m wait to get to Hamill and to be honest I lost interest and ran out of time.

I am so grateful to you for persisting at CIV.

I might actually see if I can send copies to the 'star's through their agencies. If any of you know an contact address for them, please let me know.

How did things go?

Poorly [hangs head]. I didn't have a very good day from a 1hr 30m journey taking over 2h 30m, to the 1 hour queue. Lots of waiting around for Anthony Daniels talk and then I pretty much had to leave. I did manage to get a copy of BE to Dave Barclay (yoda pupeteer).

The Celebration Europe Feedback Thread
Time
Well it was my first convention in over 10 years and I will be honest and say that it was a mostly hollow experience.

Good Points
- Seeing all the costumes and the effort that people had gone to.
- Seeing kids enjoying themselves.
- A good turn out
- Had a 20 minute chat with Dave Barclay and Toby Philpott - very nice guys!
- Got to put faces (and say hi) to a few names I've known online.

Bad Points
- Took me 55 mins to get in! A huge queue that took me 15 minutes to find the back of!
- Not enough catering. Too many queues.
- Rude staff who clearly didn't have a clue what they were doing.
- Bad design of the autograph area. If you didn't want to join the queue, you simply couldn't see any of the 'stars'. The queue should also have taken people by the other 'stars'. When I spoke to Dave and Toby nobody was in their queue. They were simply ingnored and very bored with it all.
- No 'star' panels. Why didn't they just sit everyone down and field questions from the audience.
- Queued for an hour to see 'one man star wars'. Didn't get in, so waited a further hour to see Anthony Daniels. After only 15 minutes of Mr.Daniels mortifying display, we just had to leave. Making the audience clap him and welcome him for over 10 minutes was just unbearable. Perhaps he doesn't get enough love from home. I actually thought he was slightly sloshed. Very weird indeed.
- Not enough info on what was where. For one, nobody could tell me where I had to go to find the queue to get my Hyperspace landyard. Perhaps I should have done a little more reseach.
- The vast majority of the floorspace was taken up by traders.
- I was absolutely sickened by the presence of the Army and Navy. "Do you kids enjoy watching people killed on films and games? Wanna do it for real?" Very distasteful and cast a real shadow over what was otherwise a family event.

Well I certainly learned a lesson. I should have gone on friday.

UPDATE:
should have added that I gave the Jabba crew copies of my docos. Dave Barclay in particular was a very nice guy. Toby was also very accomodating but has been ever since I contacted him when I was making 'Returning to Jedi'.

I should also say that the group of friends I spent the day with were very disheartened very quickly. So by the time I met up with them they pretty much wanted to leave. So I think I was dragged down with them. I wish I had managed to call Scott (Aficionado) back, but my phone ran out of battery and my only option would have been to carry on alone, something I wasn't very keen on. Many regrets really. Oh well. We live and learn.

Still no official name Andy! The folder is called "Contructing Star Wars", though I doubt that will be the final name. Thanks for the link Paul.

The good news is, the G4 is back up and running. To be honest with you all I have barely touched this project since may. I've been out of the country so much that when I am back home I have so much else to do. But soon it should get some attention. In fact I am currently looking through what I have done so far. So expect an update soon.
