The end of Star Wars physical media
Time

American Graffiti is coming to 4K in November. I’m waiting for them to announce the date for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. I’m still waiting for the blu-ray release of Young Indiana Jones. I’ll buy Mando just for completionist sake, because i hope it means other things will be made available. I want Tales of the Jedi, Visions, and Clone Wars season 7. Obi-Wan Kenobi, and eventually after its run Ahsoka. Andor would be a nice one to release as well.

I want Willow 4K, and the tv series as well in Blu-Ray.

Mando should have been released before this point, they should wait a year and release a show like Paramount does for Star Trek.

To me the biggest oversight of all is the lack of an announcement about a restoration of the theatrical Star Wars trilogy, the pirates make money for years and no official DVD, 4K, or Blu. Really stupid. They could even made it plus exclusive and then release it on physical months later.

Added the Black Swan which is an out of print FOX Blu-ray with Tyrone Power. I bought the Canadian pressing which worked in a region A player because even if i thought 46 bucks was a lot for it used, the US pressing is going for a hundred and fifty dollars.

Added Bubblegum Crash OVA episode 1. Illegal Army. Japanese laserdisc. Very good cover, mint disc no OBI or insert. CLV and digital sound. I got it for 11 bucks. I wanted to see if the picture was any better than the AnimEigo release. Since only Bubblegum Crisis was remastered in HD, and the US DVD and Laserdisc of Crash has always left a lot to be desired.

Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace VCD release/Laserdisc release
Time

There is also a Turkish VCD of Phantom Menace. I’m not sure but i think it is dubbed. no English.

That is also an official release.

There is also 2 different VCD bootlegs. The common version which i used to have and the Z release.

Clones is the film that had a SVCD and it wasn’t official.

"The series won't end until 2007"

He kept changing the number of episodes. I guess by the 1990s it was always going to be 9. But he never made the last trilogy. I mean if he hadn’t sold and Rick McCallum was the producer of the sequel trilogy things would have been very different. He probably would have directed and worked with the writers on 7, and came up with a story for 8 and 9 and had one or two other directors make them.

Star Wars novels and comics review thread
Time

I ordered all the movie comic adaptation trades done under Disney from Marvel TPB. All for under ten except for Last Jedi which was 22 dollars for some reason. Can’t wait to read them. Solo, Rogue One, Last Jedi and Force Awakens. I wish they’d reconsider publishing Rise of Skywalker. I also wish they would do one for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

The Flash. Awful script. Bad cgi. Story and continuity makes no sense. Wastes Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle.

The only thing i liked about it was Michael Keaton as Batman.

Sasha’s Supergirl is one note and all she portrays is anger. But she is in the movie for such a short time i don’t blame her for that.

It was cool to see some of the cameos, but it really shouldn’t have been made. Why they didn’t just adapt the much superior Flashpoint instead. Baffling. The animated is such a better movie.

Has there ever been a preservation of Indiana Jones on VHS or Laserdisc project?
Time

I can’t speak for 35mm scans of Temple of Doom or Last Crusade. I know there were a couple of projects But i’m not the person to ask. I assume they were archived and not released.

I wish i had gotten the HD scan of Making of Raiders before it was taken down. I wish i had gotten the laserdisc preservations. I understand why they were taken off. to not get Disney’s ire.

The Empire Strikes Back 4k DCP
Time

Here we had the Return of the Jedi screening. But it wasn’t advertised and it was like only for 4 days. It was the 4K DCP. I didn’t go because i own the damn UHD why would i pay to see what i already own projected in a cineplex? Would have gone if it was the 1997 print or the 1983. We did get Empire here as well years ago again that was the old 2011 master.

We also got two different restored DCPS of Raiders. The old one and the more recent one. The new one is the 4K. And its a different restoration than the Imax version. I assumed it was going to be the old one but someone went and saw it and said it was a brand new version. We do have a small theater that is a two screen that shows 35mm, but the AMC is all digital. They wouldn’t be able to project 35mm if they wanted to no equipment. Same for the Omni theater they went full digital so they no longer show 70mm films. My local Imax is Liemax no film equipment whatsoever, completely digital.

I found a not so good taping of Raiders off TV From Victoria BC from Archive.org And i also found captures of the trilogy from VHS just not the THX tapes. No Laserdisc preservations.

The Trilogy tapes appear to be from the period when Young Indy was on tv because the advert at the beginning of them is for that series. So they aren’t first issue but they also aren’t the THX tapes.

While i was there i also found a superior recording of Warriors of the Wind, from UK Pal tape source. And the 2001 Japan DVD of Transformers the movie with the Japanese Dub. No subtitles and no English track. I didn’t save the link for Transformers because its the same audio as the laserdisc in mono and lossy and its a rip so even worse quality. Its non restored.

The Star Wars Purist said:

Mysterious Chinese bootleg DVDs of the SW Original Trilogy that predate any of the official releases ('98/'99, it can’t decide, but it’s one of the two), and includes the 1997 cuts with English audio (albeit with burnt in Chinese subs)

are these the pan and scan ones? Because i had those and the source is the Hong Kong Laserdisc with hardcoded Cantonese subs.

I have the Laserdisc for ROTJ. Its warped though. And scratched.

Added Urusei Yatsura TV series Blu-Ray set 2 of 4. Discotek. No Bonus material no dub, just English Subtitles.

Added Temple of Doom and Last Crusade Hong Kong Laserdiscs. Pan and Scan Cic Video. Hard Cantonese subs. Ex Rental, rare discs i hope they arrive not broken. 45 a piece is absurd. But the seller wouldn’t make a deal.

Added digital John Wick 4, The Flash, Transformers Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dungeons and Dragons Chris Pine version, Guardians of the galaxy 3.

Added Blu-Rays from Cohen Media of Robin Hood/Black Pirate, and Thief of Bagdad.

I’m saving up to be able to purchase Picard season 3, The Korean Laserdisc of Temple of Doom, And Antman Quantumania.

Info: On collectible film cells from eBay
Time

I think i’m going to get some Last Jedi cels. They aren’t of the best scenes however. and they look like standard Imax blowup not the extra large format scenes. I’m gonna get the Rey one see if i like it and maybe get the Falcon scene, or Poe.

Edit: the cel i received was better than i thought it would be. it is just three frames. But much more impressive than the cels i have of the OT from the 1990s. Its Imax. Its not faded like those Willits Return of the Jedi 70mm frames.

Generally the prints that are letterboxed or pan and scanned are trailers. But that isn’t always the case. I know for a fact that 35mm pan and scan prints of Star Wars and the Indiana Jones films have come up in auction. Why anyone would pay for them i have no idea. Those were full feature.

Massive 35mm Leaks on Reddit
Time

I like the film scan preservations very much. However if i didn’t donate to a project i’m not entitled to a copy. If a creator/preservationist says to not share a scan i respect their wishes. I saw Lion King, i didn’t download the link because its disrespectful of donors and the project creator. I didn’t download Terminator 2 because i didn’t contribute to that scan. People asked me for the Raiders scan i said no. It was asked to not be distributed. But someone else posted it on Reddit anyway a place where i don’t have an account.

Making the myspleen materials more exposed isn’t the best idea either there is a reason its a private tracker.

Getting donors to stop donating because of drawing the eyes of the rights holders is not a good thing, nor is getting OT and the entire fanediting/restoration community nuked from orbit. For one person who thinks they are being cool and the rules the community has followed for decades no longer apply.

I’m watching the original theatrical American Graffiti. Other than it being 480P and the wobble in the telecine its very enjoyable. The print looks surprisingly clean. The mono mix isn’t incredible but it is great to finally be able to hear it.

This might be my go to version if it wasn’t for my Japanese Laserdisc. With a very nice video transfer and the 78 stereo mix.

Transformers Rise of the Beasts. Not recommended easily the worst of the franchise. Cheap looking, even worse cgi. Can’t even recommend Peter Cullen’s performance it was lackluster. And he is the only voice actor from G1 in it as far as i could tell. No Frank Welker. No Megatron, no Galvatron. But there is a mishmash of including Beast wars and Unicron in one story for some reason.

And it isn’t from Bay but it still has the Bayformers theme and Bumblebee but acts like those other movies never happened. And it tries to set up a combined Transformers/GI Joe universe. And it fails.

Are you glad Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney or do you wish he hadn’t?
Time

On further reflection while i’m happy to have gotten new movies, i’m not sure i was willing to sacrifice the EU, Lucasarts or Dark Horse comics Star Wars to get them. The Disney canon is like an entire rebooted universe.

I mean i like the Kanan comic, and Rebels. I like Rogue One, i like the Darth Vader comic from Marvel. I guess i’m selfish because i want the old Star Wars but also the best of the new. But we can’t have what we want, i mean i would love to be able to see George Lucas sequels and Duel of the Fates as actual movies.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. A solid C- minus about the same as Crystal Skull. A lot to like and a lot to dislike, i’m pretty torn on this movie. Harrison was really good in it. I don’t want to spoil. The digital photography and dark lighting was distracting to me though. So not Indiana Jones. And i love Johnny but that was his weakest Indiana Jones score. The cgi was bad and not believable.

I will say this is the worst of Jimmy Mangold’s films i have seen. And its still a pretty middle tier film.
