Took advantage of the amazon sale on Star Wars 4K discs. Got Last Jedi for 12 bucks. And Rise of Skywalker for 19.

I haven’t seen Earwig and the Witch, the 3D really didn’t interest me. Goro Miyzaki did direct Up on Poppy Hill which i very much liked. But he also directed tales of Earthsea which i haven’t finished watching. He directed Ronja the robbers daughter which was cgi animation and a tv series which i also haven’t seen.
Star Trek log 2. Its the entire second season of Star Trek TOS in a massive Japanese boxed set. I couldn’t pass it up so many good episodes.
I was thinking of getting Jedi Knight II and Jedi Academy on PS4.
I wonder how they hold up.
Over the years there have been preservations of the tracks here and elsewhere. Some bit perfect and some not, but i don’t have them.
Wish they were on the 4K releases. The stereo mixes were left off.
And i also wonder how faithful the 7.1 audio is to the original 6 track mixes.
Its the reason i haven’t retired my laserdiscs and i dread when my player breaks.
Everything but VI is theatrical on laserdisc except for the tv extended star trek 1.
Treks 1-5 are very good digital LPCM.
I just watched Star Wars again and Return of the Jedi. Waiting for 4K80 to be able to enjoy Empire in good quality without all the horrible changes in the 2020 Special Edition, or the bad colors of the Eastman prints that seem to be every version available.
A New Hope goes back to The Art of Star Wars which was published in November of 1979. But no it was never the title or subtitle of the real shooting script. It was the Adventures of Luke Starkiller as taken from the Journal of the Whills. Saga I. Star Wars. Shortened to Star Wars and there was no Episode IV at all period until 1979. The film itself wasn’t recut to episode IV until 1981.
Generator by Foo Fighters.
I won’t see it til it is on blu ray or digital whichever is cheaper.
Paramount plus isn’t for me. I have the Blu ray steelbook for season 3 and i’m fine with waiting.
Did anyone save the film cel scans that website appears to be gone. I wanted to see reference on what the Empire Strikes Back 70mm scans looked like.
I’m reading both the books on the making of return of the jedi, the one from the 80s and the one by Rinzler. And i’m going to reread the novelization, and the comic book adaptation and listen to the radio drama.
Filmmaker is a brilliant documentary by Lucas.
I also saw George Lucas maker of film which is from 1971 and shows a man with a keen intellect.
I respect Kamiyama and Aramaki but i still haven’t seen season 3 and 4 of SAC. The change from 2D animation to 3D that looks like a PS2 cutscene was jarring. Its the same reason i’m having trouble getting into Blade Runner Black Lotus.
Added another copy of Return of the Jedi first issue pan and scan Japanese release with OBI, still in shrink but not sealed. OBI is very nice. Jacket is nice and clean. Original Dolby Hype sticker is still on it.
I watched Bond 25 No time to Die. The worst James Bond since Quantum of Solace. Not going to spoil the film but it was so disappointing. I wanted to like it but it felt very uneven and flat and paint by numbers. I’d give it two and a half stars.
Maybe i set myself up hoping it was going to be poignant and heartbreaking like OHMSS. It felt forced. Craig showed zero emotion or gravitas like he was going through the motions.
The Cinematography wasn’t spectacular, the action was listless and boring. The music was muted and almost not there.
Lashana was very good but she is barely in the movie. Honestly all the supporting characters feel like they weren’t well developed. Money Penny and Q and M, and Felix and etc etc.
Weak Villain and even weaker plot/maguffin.
The Star Wars remasters were made widely available digitally and on Disney plus. In a boxed set exclusive for Best Buy at a ripoff price of 250. And each individual 4K/Blu release combo. I think those are a good deal only if the digital copy hasn’t expired.
At least they are available to non 4K people. Indiana Jones remaster is a 4K exclusive, Blu-Ray is a repressing in the USA, i cannot speak for other territories.
I stand corrected on everything but the North American releases. Which i’m only waiting for someone to confirm if its not the 2019 FOX DVD. The A New Hope DVD says on the back cover 2019 DVD release Buena Vista.
Its under ten bucks but i have the 2011 blu ray already.
Jason confirmed that the 2020 edition is available on DVD in UK and other PAL territories.
I have amended my post and stand corrected.
Can anyone confirm whether the US stand alone DVDs are repressings or the new master?
Was George planning even more changes for the 3D releases? if so what does that make the Reliance 2013 scan of Maclunky an incomplete edition? Not that i am clamoring for a 5th version of the Special Edition. Its kind of gotten ridiculous by this point.
Loved the trailer for The Batman, and the Flash movie looks like a lot of fun.
Wish they’d bring back Mark Hamill as the voice as animated Joker in some capacity. But i understand if they choose to do something completely different with JJ Abrams new animated Batman series.
I’ve always wanted a full set of the Sphere paperbacks. They appeal to me because they aren’t available in the US. Of course to get all of them i’d have to also get the Futura Return of the Jedi because a Sphere books edition doesn’t exist. I do know they published Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Splinter of the Mind’s Eye and all 3 Han Solo novels.
I’m reading the Alan Dean Foster Novel of the first movie, Star Wars. My reading copy is Classic Star Wars a new hope, despite the added subtitle there haven’t been any textual changes. The abridged audiobook on the other hand was edited to bring it in line with the film and the then in development prequels, from Time Warner audiobooks and its disappointing. I don’t recommend the audio version read by Tony Roberts and abridged by John Whitman.
Added Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Blu Ray set. Region A US release.
Added Urusei Yatsura Beautiful Dreamer Discotek Blu Ray US release.
I want to get into more rewarding reading but right now all i have time for is comic books. I’m reading IDW archives of the original Star Wars Newspaper comics i have the two Williamson volumes and am looking to add the Russ Manning one.
The only reason we got the Maclunky edit was because Lucas had already paid for it and it was already done, if not converted to 3D like he wanted. Disney never paid for Special Edition 4.0’s remastering/restoration. I doubt they will pay for the original versions being redone from scratch and a new scan/ restoration when they consider the 4k master archival.
It might even be long past the time when releasing the originals would have been worth it in terms of marketing with the death of physical media on the horizon. And all but Return of the Jedi’s 40th anniversary missed. I suppose if they put a couple of million into it maybe it would be worth it as a exclusive for Disney plus, but even that seems unlikely. I think its likely they never happen at all beyond the GOUT.
I hated the Last Jedi the first time i watched it. It was like going to the funeral of a loved family member. I had no idea how much Luke Skywalker meant to me i’m in my 40s and i’m not a child but it was a punch in the gut. Now i have a sort of respect for it for its boldness and choices even if i don’t like them all. On the other hand i used to love Force Awakens and Rise of Skywalker and now i despise them. I came to realize they are empty nostalgia vehicles and are trash Star Wars.
Used to hate and revile the prequels except for having a soft spot for Phantom Menace, i still kind of hate Attack of the Clones, and i only like the end of Revenge of the Sith but i’ve found peace with them for the most part. But i won’t watch anything but the theatrical Phantom Menace. The video extended cuts with cgi Yoda are awful.
I also had a bit of nostalgia for the 97 edit of Star wars, but just because it came out when i was in High School. I find the special editions on the whole to be awful and misguided in general. But i wouldn’t hate them quite as much if the originals weren’t suppressed. The Hayden Skywalker version though from 2004 on i cannot even force myself to watch that. And the Revenge of the Sith Emperor in Empire and bad redone dialog, and awful Temuerra Fett.Which is hilarious because he was great in Mando.
Loved the Luke in Mando thing until i thought about it more and its just blatant fanservice. But i’m glad Mark Hamill got to do the Luke he wanted finally. Still isn’t as cool as Luke leaving the Hanger in Last Jedi, even if that was faked with a force projection. But the film was story rich and deep in character where the other stuff was dross. Even Solo and Rogue One are fun but not really all that deep. Honestly you could erase everything since 83 but Last Jedi and i wouldn’t miss any of it.
