i agree that the nhl needs some kind of salary cap/ luxury tax system. Personally I am more for the luxury tax because the owners did this to themselves, driving prices way high up to out spend each other. For example, see Martin Lapointe.... $5 milllion ...GIVE ME A BREAK!

Yes the NHL doesn't have the luxury of other sports and the current system is not working. I was just explaining the fallbacks of the NFL.. not the NHL. Some of you guys are giving the owners in the NHL too much credit. Although I agree that there needs to be a compromise, let's face it, the owners are just as much to blame as the players... if not more, and now they want to bail themselves out.

But the NFL players also make the least amount of money in relationship to revenue of the four major sports. The NFL makes tons.... the TV deals alone cover all players salaries and then some.

Another thing, NO, that's right NO player contract in the NFL is guaranteed. Teams can dump a player or trade him without notice and without severance, and they don't have to honor any remaining money in a player's contract.

So, as far as the NFL is concerned, I have no problems with a player holding out or refusing to play "for the team", when the teams don't give a damn about them. There is no duty to the fans or any of that crap.

NFL'ers should get paid more when their corporation is raking it in and they're getting killed on the field. The average career of a running back: 3-5 years. They should be getting paid the most. Not these cry baby baseball players like A-Rod, who would go on the IR if he stubbed his toe.

looks like the droids and ewoks animated cartoon series as well as the 2 live action ewoks movies are coming out on official DVD.

From the digitalbits.com:

We've got a short (but mostly sweet) post for you fans of Star Trek and Star Wars today.

First up, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox have officially announced that they'll be releasing a trio of much anticipated "double feature" DVDs on 11/23. Star Wars: Animated Adventures - Droids will include select episodes of the original 1985 Droids animated series edited into two feature-length films - The Pirates and the Princess and Treasures of the Hidden Planet (both 86 minutes). Star Wars: Animated Adventures - Ewoks will also include select episodes of the original 1985-87 Ewoks animated series edited into two feature films - The Haunted Village (88 minutes) and Tales from the Endor Woods (89 minutes). Also on 11/23, you'll get Star Wars: Ewok Adventures, which includes both live-action films from the 1980s - The Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor (both 95 minutes). All three of these DVDs will carry an SRP of $14.98. Unfortunately, I suspect MOST of you were hoping for the Droids and Ewoks animated series to be released complete with all the original episodes, but such is not to be (at least not this go-round). Here's a look at the cover art for all three titles...

Hey guys

Just got back from Columbus where the US played Canada in a pre world cup exhibition game. I gotta say the US looked really good, outpassing, outhustling, and outshooting the Canadians by almost 2-1. The score was 3-1, but that doesnt really reflect the play on ice. I know it's only an exhibition game, but the US really dominated last night.

Didn't someone mention something about a Harry and the Hendersons conversion project? Is this from laserdisc? What about Howard the Duck?

On a sidenote, do you guys know good sites with info on laserdiscs, such as sites that list movies releases on LD, or technical info or review sites, or even sites that sell LD's? All I can find is eBay.

New poster here, but I've been following the discussions on this forum for awhile. I'm thinking about buying another bootleg set, and I was wondering if any of you have experience with playing these on an Xbox (my primary DVD player at the moment, besides my laptop's). I have an older set of Asian bootlegs (audio-video sync problems and all), and the Xbox has a very hard time reading these DVD-R's (plays them only once in a "blue moon" for some reason).

I'm thinking about going for the TR47 set, but I'm worried that my Xbox will have a hard time reading these also. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey littlewing.

I have both the TR47 set and the anamorphic set. They both play on my xbox without any problem. I have a first generation xbox to boot.

i've been away from the thread for awhile.... who's got the latest set of covers? anyone have disc art?

I really like cerbero's covers. I just wish someone had his covers but instead of the bland fonts for the titles (yes I know they are true to the LD set), someone would use the original graphics for the titles, as seen on posters, old VHS, and the 89 LD set I believe. You guys know what they look like. Anyone do that yet?

chainsawash, looks like you were doing what I was looking for. Although it seems your ROTJ title is a newer one, similar to my 95 VHS set, and not the original. ROTJ was yellow originally

And, yes, I agree with you. The Goblin's costume was my #1 sticking point with the first movie. Another reason why I like the second so much better, the villain looks like the villain I remember. Alfred Molina was great in that movie.

I gotta say the XMEN movies have been way better than Spiderman. I havent seen Spiderman 2 yet but I don't really want to because I thought the first one sucked. Regardless of how accurate either series are to the comics (I really don't care), X-MEN to me has 10x better acting, 10x better script, and just more enetertaining period.

If you have a widescreen 16:9 format...this is the one to one. It is pretty much consensus that the anamorphic has more extras, better picture, but the TR47 does have stronger sound. Not to say the anamorphic is not good for sound, it is...though the tr47 does trump it. While I'd like a mix of two to exist...which a better DL dvd may make happen, I'd pick the anamorphic every time. And why spend a ton of money on a DL, when the box set is coming out and technology is improving and with a year we'll have what we all want a really, really great copy of the OT (done the right way).

i have compared the 2 and I would have to say that the tr47 set has the better picture, but only slightly

I didnt say anything about the US fan base or the fact that hockey isnt popular here. TRUST ME I KNOW THIS. Even bowling and arena football get better TV ratings. That's not the point. Neither is how many world hockey championships Sweden, or Canada had. You asked about the World Cup. The current world cup. And to say that the US is not a contender is ridiculous. With the NHL-level talent and younger team than the one in the Olympics, they rival that of Canada, Czech Republic, Russia and Sweden.

Does anybody of you know if there are any Dutch subtitles available for these DVDs? (TR47 or anamorphic pre-SE set)

Or has anybody of you already created subtitles for them?

I don't really need them myself, but I'd like to share the movies with friends and family, and some of them will need Dutch subtitles.

Any pointers or tips would be appreciated (you can PM me if you don't want to post about it on the forum).

SINCE HE BROUGHT THAT UP, WOULD ANYONE BE INTERESTED IN MAKING A SET WITH FRENCH SUBTITLES, (PREFERABLY THE TR47 BUT I WILL ACCEPT THE ANAMORPHIC AS WELL). I HAVE A FRIEND IN FRANCE WHO WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A SET BUT ONLY IF IT HAS FRENCH SUBTITLES.
