John Williams' Music
Time
The music John Williams created for the tense scene with Vader trying to flush out Luke from the shadows and the subsequent battle after has got to be the most wonderful thing he has written. Granted it is short and sweet, but it never fails to give me goosebumps. Every. Single. Time. His quality did not dip during ROTJ.

The man is a genius. He's work is the only redeming quality of the PT. Now, at some parts during ROTS it did sound like he was phoning it in (and I bet he was) but the theme music was great. I've got it on my MP3 player.

I may not like the PT but I do own all 3 soundtracks. Dual of Fate, Love theme, all wonderful music.

Why the PT fans love the PT so much, not as diehard as we think
Time
TPM is already starting to die away from the collective minds of both the nerds and the general public. And that was only 7 years ago. The PT will go the way of the dinosaur and just become a novelty of the hardcore fans, but the true nature of the Force (i.e. the Original Trilogy) will live on. It's already got a good 23 years on the PT and going strong.

Should Princess Leia have gotten a medal in A New Hope?
Time
Oh right, and who would have given her the metal? That would have looked kind of stupid if she gave it to herself.
I bet she is the type of person who keeps a crystal bottle of Scotch in her chambers alone and says, "Would I like a drink? Oh how kind of me, thank you. I'll have what I'm having."

Besides, she didn't do anything. What? She wants an award every time someone else blows something up? I took a shower today, can I get a metal for that.

And Chewy didn't want a metal because he thinks metals are gay. All wookies do. God, they don't even where clothes, the long haired hippies.

Ages of Luke & Leia
Time
Luke had a deep psychological connection with his father. He never knew him, but idolized him. I'm sure growing up he missed his mother, but Aunt Beru seemed to fill in that role nicely. But the idea of his father...oh, that really got Luke's blood pumping. Space travel, adventure, his father seemed to know what was cool. Then to find out that his father fought in the war and was a Jedi Knight! Woo!!

Leia on the other hand, being a female, would have had a yearning to know her mother. What she was like, who she was. She obviously knew her mother because she was with her, even for a short time (sans PT). She never knew her father and to her it didn't seem all that crutial. But her mother, that was the key. Probably the driving force in her life, and she didn't even know it.

Vader couldn't pick up on Leia's vibe on the Death Star because 1) she had the connection with her mother, and 2) she had not yet "activated" her force senses.
Vader did notice Luke, "the force is strong with this one," because Obi-Wan had started teaching him and Luke was now in the Jedi pool and sending out ripples in the force that Vader pick up on. Both Luke and Leia can "swim" but only Luke jumped in the pool at the time.

Luke never knew is mother. Leia never knew her father. Put the two twins together and now they both can learn about their parents.

My line of thinking pushes aside all PT logic (oxymoron). To me, Leia was born first, Luke second. Luke was taken away quickly by Obi-Wan to run to Tatooine. Leia stayed behind with her mother until her death (I assumed a year later when she was murdered or something).

Even if Lucas wanted to have her die in the same movie that the children were born in, Leia should have been born first and in her mother's arms when she died. Luke should have been left in the doctor's arms, having never even gotten to see or even be held by his mother.
Hell, even if Padme had reached out and brushed the back of her hand against Leia's face and have the baby look at her while Luke was held at her feet crying, would have been enough to believe it. But like the idiot Lucas is, nothing makes any goddamn sense.

PS - I thought that this was about actual age numbers of the twins and I was going to say that during ANH both Luke and Leia are 19 years old.
1) Leia was said to be the youngest person to join the senate
2) I saw a poster that mentioned that Luke was the "20 year old son of Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker"
3) I was also told somewhere, a magazine perhaps, that Luke was 18. I average the two ages together for a happy medium
4) Luke's been denied the Acadamy, again, making him atleast 19.

Shadow of the Empire (book)
Time
I got the book from the Library and stopped reading about 5 pages in to the book and promptly returned it.

I can think of no lamer plot than what that book puts forth. A meterosexual, knot-top wearing, inferiority complex suffering villian who's only goal is to kill Darth Vader just so he can have the chance to serve as the Emperor's right hand man?

Oh, I don't think so. Most villans have a quest for power, money, or fame. This shrinky little bitch only wants to be "best pals" with the Emperor and feels SOOOOOOO left out. "It's not fair! I wanna be the Emperor's go to guy! Gawd, it's always about Vader, Vader, Vader! Hmph! I'll show them."

Yeah. Pass.

What I hate about the PT is that you have to dig up and dust off poignant sub plots.

Case in point - the eventual distruction of the Jedi and the balance of the force. People usually take it as 10 jedi = 10 sith, balance. At the time of TPM you have the council talking about Anakin bring balance to the force as if it was needed. Do they really want 10,000s of Siths to match up the Jedi Knights? I doubt it. They say that the Sith were gone and were pretty please with themselves. Why were they so enamored with this balance notion?

And what was the actual balance anyway? The Jedi in the movie believed it to be a numarical thing. All the jedi/0 Sith means balance to them. Okay, whatever.

But what I really think the whole point of the Balance was a moral level. At the time of the Old Republic the Jedi had become rather full of themselves. The Sith had been gone for 1000 years and they were now the cream of the crop. They took infants away and trained them in the ways of the Jedi. I doubt they stole any babies but I'm sure tremedous presure was placed on the family to give up the child. This child never saw or heard from his parents again.

Jedi are forbiden to own anything, love anyone, or have a family. Anakin showed how distructive this thought process can be. Had the Jedi simpley allowed marrage none of this would have happened.

Now by the time Luke comes to the scene, things have changed. He isn't the last of the old, but the first of the new. Jedi can get married, have kids, and basically have a life. That is the true balance of the force. A Jedi's life and sense of duty is now in balanced.

Of course, you have to dig down deep in the PT to get any incling of this theory and most of it is just speculation. But if this was a point Lucas was trying to make in the PT it didn't take. No one got it. Only the few film archeologists with too much time on their hands could gleen this.

anyone read SW Legacy: Betrayal?...
Time
I read the first book of the X-Wing series. I thought it was okay. Light, fluffy, no brainer reading. Perfect for summer. I finished book one and am waiting to get a hold of book 2 (I already have #3 waiting for me to pick it up). It's great since there is no Luke or Han or anyone because lord knows I don't want to read anything about them outside the movies. Those writers just screw everything up for me when they put them on "Extra special adventures" which basically turn into Star Trek episodes. Bleah.

And on an additional note - if Padme died of heartache and her pain over lossing Anakin was so great that she couldn't even muster up the strength to stay alive for her children, why didn't Lucas show us any of that love? I mean, I've seen all 3 PT several times and not once do I find anything resembling a Romeo and Juilet love-passion. I see two stiff wooden actors throwing cheesy lines at each other. Gone with the Wind, it is not.

Watched ROTS on HBO, UGGGH!
Time
What disapointed me most about ROTS is not what was in the movie, but what was left out.

#1 - I wanted to see the Younglings murderd. Not because I am a morbid person, but because I wanted to feel something. Anything. I wanted to be heart-wrenched and have my jaw drop at how horrible Anakin had become in murdering children in cold blood. I wanted to hate him, not the actor. I wanted to see the pure dark side that had surrounded him.

#2 - Boba Fett. I was told he was going to be in the movie. I had had enough of Mr. Bo-Jangos and wanted to see Boba back in his OT garb (maybe a little cleaned up since it was 19 years previous). I wanted to see him take those Wookie scalps. Saddly, he overslept and missed the movie.

#3 - More Darth Vader, goddamnit! I wanted to see our masked villing for longer than 2 minutes.

#4 - The redemption and eventual death of Jar Jar. Now, everybody hates that dickweed, but I didn't want to walk away from the PT still hating him. I wanted him to be redeemed. It had been 13 years since his bumbling antics in TPM. You'd think that during that time and spending his life now in the Senate that he would have grown wiser and more mature. I wanted to see him help defend the Jedi. He owes his life to them and that debt was never cancelled. I wanted to see him actually take on a bit of bravery and make up for the FUBAR battle of Naboo. Then after the audiance has accepted his redemption have him killed. Probably shot in the back by a trooper while helping to defend the temple or something. That way some of us have an emotional moment while others are just happy his is dead. It's win-win.

#5 - The true bond Obi-Wan and Anakin had. They were like brothers (so the movie tells me) but they act like they just went to High School together. That's not enough. Obi-Wan loved him? Huh. Must have missed that scene.

#6 - More consistancy. "Obi-Wan once thought as you did." Really? Padme sure did, but Obi-Wan? Hmm...
"That wizard is just a crazy old man." Why the hard feelings Owen? What did he ever do to you?
"I must obey my master." Why? Does he bitch-smack you for not doing his bidding or something? Do you owe him or something?
"I remember my mother. She was very beautiful. Kind, yet sad." That's some infant power right there! All that from 2 seconds? Wow.

Watched ROTS on HBO, UGGGH!
Time
I say it is worse because there are so many bad scenes it over powers the few good ones (i.e. the dual of Yoda and Palps in the senate chamber)

I cannot keep quiet during a viewing. I have to yell constantly at the screen.

Me: Why the hell did Dooku do a flip of the balcony? It doesn't even look real! Use the damn stairs man. It's more sophisticated. You wouldn't see Yoda do that.

Grevous shows up Me: Uhh..no. *fast forward*

"Aren't you coming master? ... This whole ordeal worked because of you."
Me: Dear god, it's like watching a Middle School play production.

"Anakin, I want to have our baby back on Naboo." *turns around*
Me: Aughh!! What the hell is wrong with her face?

"Anakin! No.. Please...your choaking me..."
Me: If he's choaking you, why are you still able to make a sound? You should be a a death grip of asphyxiation.

"You under estimate my POWER!"
Me: *in a mocking, over exagerated tone* "You under estimate my power! Ughhhrrr!!!"

What I really think Anakin should have said when trying to lure Padme into joining him - "Whe don't have to run anymore. You and I can rule the galaxy together as husband and wife!" Reminicant of Vader and the whole "...rule as father and son!" obsession he has showing that he may desire power, but he doesn't want to do it alone. Ruling with family seems really important to him. But it all falls on deaf Lucas ears.
