The Sad State Of Star Wars
Time
Originally posted by: Nanner Split

Overwhelmingly, sure, there were some who weren't overwhelmingly pleased -- no movie has overwhelmingly managed to overwhelmingly please such an overwhelmingly wide audience as Star Wars fans -- but the overwhelming response was overwhelmingly positive. Even jaded movie critics who didn't overwhelmingly get the previous prequels were overwhelmingly won back by the overwhelmingly epic tragedy of Episode III. Overwhelmingly.

There you go. Fixed it for ya'.

The Sad State Of Star Wars
Time
Star Wars has been going down hill for me since the PT.

I remember me and my best friend looking for Star Wars toys at the mall a few years ago. We go into KB Toys and find a whole section of Star Wars toys. We see the words "Star Wars Toys" and we rushed over like two little chipmunks excited as excited could be. "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Star Wars stuff!" When we got there we just went "Oh..." and left. It was nothing but Episode I and II crap. It didn't even register on our RADAR that Episode I and II was "Star Wars." That's NOT Star Wars. Star Wars is ANH, ESB and ROTJ. And we didn't see any of that and left.

Her dad: "You guys find any good toys?"
Us: "No, they didn't have anything. *sad sigh*"

Favorite old-school star wars game?

Yeah, I remember having to pause, log out, and then alter the controls so that I could switch from mouse, keyboard, and joystick. But that was easy enough to over come.

And I guess that is why I loved the game so much, because it was an interactive movie/game. They simply don't make those enough (or at all). Same reason why I love my X-Files game so much. You journey with this FBI agent Wilmore through 7 disks while solving a really cool X-Files story (eventually you find and rescue Mulder and Scully too.) It's the actors and live action-ness of it all that is just so awesome.

I really wish they would make more games like that...

Favorite old-school star wars game?
Time
There seems to be chatter about Star Wars games and such and I thought that I would jump on the bandwagon.

Well, first off, I am no gamer. I don't even own a system. I can count on my hand the number of games I've played on a consol, but that doesn't mean that I don't have a favorite Star Wars game (which also happens to flat out be my favorite game. ever.)

I love Rebel Assult II. Absolutely adore that game. 100%. I played it all the time back when I was in middle school. I stil have that game, but since it is DOS based, my laptop has a hell of a time playing it (sound but frozen picture). I haven't played it since 1997 and that makes me sad.

But god, I loved that game. It had live action actors for characters, none of this CGI character crap. (You can't get personal with a CGI character in a game. I know, I've tried. Just something about live action characters connecting you to the story...) You were really thrown in to the plot! That rocked. I miss that game so much.

And when I wasn't playing my PC game, I hopped into my brother's room and played Super Star Wars, ESB, and ROTJ on his SNES. In fact, I just played 6 levels on ROTJ yesterday. Still good times...

Tell me about yours.

A plot to destroy Supershadow
Time
Bah. I ignore anything that SuperShadow says. And second, you people are signing on a "Petition On-Line" site. Please... nothing from that site has ever done any good. Ever.

Hey, it's a free market out there on the Internet. SuperShadow can post whatever crap he wants. Doesn't mean that we have to read it. He's been proven as a fraud many times. Just ignore him. That is what I do.

He's as credible as any other "LOL!!11! StaR WaRZ!!" site out there. Ignore him.

GameFAQ Star Wars Poll
Time
Revenge of the Sith is #2 because it is so popular right now. Had you asked that poll 3 years ago, ATOC would be at #2, and if you ask 6 years ago, TPM would have been at #2 because it was the newest and most popular.

Yet, time and time tested again, The Empire Strikes Back kicks ass EVERY SINGLE TIME!! How's that for your prescious "CGI" Lucas? That movie is bulletproof! It survived your renditions in '97, and contunes to be the least messed around with movie.

Don't feel dishartened about the lack of A New Hope votes people. I too would have voted for ESB. Most of those ESB votes were a toss up between ANH and ESB itself. It was a close call. I would have had a tough time voting between ESB and ANH myself.

But take a look at the numbers:

PT = 23,193 people say that their #1 movie falls in the Prequel Trilogy.
OT = 43,289 people say that their #1 movie falls in the Original Trilogy. That is almost TWICE as many. Oh yeah. We're still going strong.

Why Leia remembers Padme but Luke doesn't
Time
Hmm...I never heard of Owen being Ben's brother. I like it better that Obi-Wan doesn't have any siblings. That would explain why he gave Luke to Owen and Ben didn't keep him himself to raise on Tatooine. I actually like (gasp!) what Lucas did making Uncle Owen be a step uncle for Luke. I really like how that turned out in the film. Simple, yet a big impact.

There are so many ways we could fix that glaring pot hole concerning Luke and Leia.

1) Anakin be responsible for his wife's death (not this "he broke my heart" crap). He could have picked her up with the force, choked her in mid-air, and then threw her against a wall/floor in anger. She goes down and is unconsious. The fall damaged her and now she is bleeding internally.

2) Padme had a chance at surviving her injuries with the help of the medical team, but she lost the will to live. Medically, the droids could save her, but she's giving up. She's lost the strength to save her self and the droids can only so much. They have to operate quickly in order to save the babies before it is too late.

3) Leia is born first. Obi-Wan bring her to Padme's side and she reaches out and touches her baby's face while naming her "Leia..." She screams and pushes out Luke and she reaches out for her baby and gives him the name of "Luke..." but she never touches him. She tells Obi-Wan that there is still good in Anakin, but dies in mid-sentance. Luke is still at Padme's feet crying, while Obi-Wan hold's Leia in his arms.

There. Problem solved. Damn you Lucas.

How did you imagine the Emperor taking over?

In the OT, it seems to me that Obi-Wan really believed in Anakin when he first met him...."When I first met your father, I was amazed at how strongly the Force flowed through him. I took it upon myself to train him as a Jedi."

Interpretation be damned.....that's pretty straightforward there. Obi-Wan met Anakin, was impressed and trained him.

In the PT, Obi-Wan didn't seem to impressed by Anakin. He was against having him trained, for crying out loud.

For me, that definitely calls into question, Lucas' familiarity with his own material.

I agree. The way Obi-Wan talks about Anakin he was impressed with him from the beginning. He plainly says so himself.

Lucas could have easily have had Obi-Wan like Anakin as much as Qui-Gon did. Hell, we could have done with out Qui-Gon all together and have Obi-Wan be like, "Wow! Check out this guy! He rocks! I am soooo training him!"

But, no, Lucas decided to ignore his own writing from 20 years before.

Farscape Puppetry use in the Star Wars PT
Time
GCI should be used when Puppetry fails. Like intense action scenes or something. Such as having a Yoda throw his light saber into a Clone Trooper's chest and then yank it out. Puppetry can't do that very well with out looking stupid. But any other scene should use puppetry simply because it's hard on actors, and it looks more realistic (since it is real). I mean, even the Star Wars people complained that they had to act against very little.

And it is not getting any better. I heard the girl from King Kong had to really work hard because she was pretty much acting against nothing. It's just not easy on those poor actors. And then you get bad acting, and then the fans get pissed off...

Lucas, you should have learned from the past. The ESB Yoda could kick your ROTS Yoda's ass. Any day.

Puppets look way more real. Look at Jurassic park. The animatronics (sp?) are used for close ups and interaction. GCI was used for distance shots and action sequences. Even 12 years later that movie is bitchin'! Lucas should have taken some advice.

Yeah, when I saw that happen in the theater I shouted out, "Weak!"

Come on. There had to have been a better way of explaining what happend to him. Or just left him alone. The way he looks in ROTJ, I just assumed that is what old age and a life time of using the Dark Side does to someone. Sure you have UNLIMITED POWER!! but you also loose everything else. He became the ugly that he was.

Force lightning melting is face? He should have just shouted out then, "I'm melting! MELTING!! What a world, what a world..."

Yeah, as soon as I read the words "Obi Wan tried to build a time machine..." I stopped reading. Sorry guys, I don't know if you are just joking around or not, because I didn't read it. I just said, "No, no, no" and skipped down the bottom of the thread. Star Wars doesn't need to get that weird, thank you very much.

Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time
Not really all that interesting, but I was watching something on Discovery Channel about tornados and such. Well, this team of storm trackers were trying to catch this one tornado and failing miserably. Out of their boardom in the next shot, you see one of the scientists on top of the van's Doplar Radar dish wearing a Vader helmet and chest plate, with his arms in the air shouting "Noooooooooooo!"

I just about spit all over the TV. My whole family got a kick out of that. Apparently we are not the only ones making fun of that horrible scene.

I did the SW test with my 7 year old nephew, there is hope!
Time
As I told a classmate of mine 2 weeks ago, "the PT may be all hyped up and talked about, but that is only because it is new and popular. In 15 years, let's see how it holds up against the Original Trilogy. I know it is going to fall flat."

His response was a snied, "So certain are you?" The guy is a Star Wars fanatic, but he just happens to like EVERYTHING star wars. He has very little taste in movies. And having him in Theory 348 was painful. He wouldn't shut up. It was like he was fighting with the teacher so he could talk. Hey, buddy I came to this class to learn, not to hear you blather on about stuff that isn't realevant to the subject.

Sorry, got a little side-tracked there.

No, it's not. I don't have a problem with it. It's not like he really WAS the Shaggy character. It was an homage. And that is fine.
