What Star Wars has meant to you

God willing, I'll be working in media. Exactly what, I don't know. But right now I'm into Audio Engineering, and hope to work with cartoon audio (sound FX, voice acting, music). That and movie audio, maybe what like Ben Burtt does.

Can someone please explain WHY the audio on the 2004 ANH DVD is so messed up?
Time
I think the whole reason they released the DVDs when they did is for one simple reason: Pimping Revenge of the Sith. Pure and simple.

If you look on the bonus disk you see a whole section devoted to "special behind the scene" stuff for Episode III. Of course, looking at it now it is pretty dated...since we all seen the movie now anyway, and many of us own it. Why else was the "original box art" DVD set released with out the extra disk and after ROTS was out on DVD? Duh.

I understand what you meant, but it is very true about American ideology. Americans have a very strong tendancy to assume everything is meant for them or effects only them. It's a flaw of the culture.

Well, fact is certain lines have always sounded like shit. Have you ever heard a good-sounding version of "It just isn't fair. Biggs is right, I'll never get outta here!"? I wouldn't mind if they had Mark re-do them - he is a brilliant voice actor after all.

That is exactly my thinking too.

Movies you enjoy even though you know they're bad

Well, I know they don't suck (and I love them), but I found them in like the $5 bin at the store and they didn't do all that hot at the box office. I wonder if that is just because America has poor taste in films and want to spend their money on things like "Jurassic Park 3," "DOOM: The movie," "Alien vs. Predator," "Rumor Has It." My god...I can't believe it. Hollywood is so desperate for film material that they are using an older, more sucsessful movie to be the base line for their new movie. A movie based on a movie is not a good sign.

In both the laserdisk and the SE tapes, I have never noticed any bad audio problems that weren't part of the orignal recording. I have never seen the DVD's so I don't know how bad the changes are.

There is just one piece of audio that I desperatly wish they would fix (but it might be impossible) is Luke's line of "Aww, it just isn't fair. Biggs is right, I'm never gonna get out of here!"
That line sounds like they had a windsock or something on the Boom Mic. All the other dialogue is fine, but line has always bothered me. Hell, if the sound has degrated so badly, why don't they just have Mark Hamill come in and do the line again. Luke's back is turned when he says it anyway, so it wouldn't be that hard.

What Star Wars has meant to you
Time
All of us here love Star Wars for a variety of reason. Many (if not most) all of those reasons we share. We are all here for a greater purpose (the preservation of these films in their original form), but there is more to just preserving the films which draws us into the Star Wars universe.

At the end of her genre lecture each semester, my film teacher asks us all “Why is the force still with us?” Over the years she has compiled a collection of reasons why Star Wars ties so strongly into so many aspects of our lives. For us, it is more than just a movie. It is something deeper. For me, I cannot explain it. It is almost as if I have always had a connection to “the force” even when I had yet to see the Original Trilogy.

I am lucky - I caught the tail end of the saga, being born the same summer that Return of the Jedi came out. I have (however small) a physical connection to the trilogy, and to me that has always been the little gold leaf on my heart.
It’s not that I spent my childhood watching these films and playing with make-shift lightsabers out of cardboard tubes. No…it was the fact that Star Wars gave me a childhood. It gave me something to hold on to, to wrap myself up in. It gave me the strength to look up at the night sky and honestly believe again.

Star Wars has taught us how to be brave, and how defend our honor. It taught us right from wrong and brought us to worlds we never thought could have existed. It showed us that there is a little bit of good in everyone and no mater how high the cards are stacked against you, that how ever complicated things become, good will always win.

So please, share with all of us (because why else are we here?) - what has Star Wars meant to you?

These movies either really suck, or are just really lame - yet I still love them. A lot.

Balto
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
The PowerPuff Girl Movie
Minority Report
The Big Red One: The Reconstruction (I know that the only reason I love this movie is because Mark Hamill is in it.)
Pearl Harbor
Space Camp (I once watched this movie 5 times in one day)
Twister

I don't know Adam. Why would anyone watch Star Wars episodes 1, 2 and 3, before they see ANH, ESB, and ROTJ.

Once again, no big deal. Even if it is bad, it will be cool to see the characters again.

No it won't. It would be like a 20 year high school reunion where you find out that your good friends whom you haven't seen since you graduated have all had their lives go down the toilet. Mary is 300 pounds over weight, Sarah is working as a short order cook at a dirty truck stop. Melissa has been divorced 3 times. Josh is addicted to meth, Jason lost his leg in a drag race, and your old math buddy Nicole is on welfare with her 5 fatherless children (all with different fathers.)

You telling me it was "good to see them again?" Hell no. I would rather retain my memories of the "good ol' days" where we all had dreams and ambitions rather than find out that all their lives went to hell.

Back to the Future 4 will be a trip to hell.

Well, George Lucas fixed the original trilogy for the 1997 and 2004 releases, I'm sure he can fix the prequel trilogy as well for the 2007 release.

Ha ha ha! You said "fixed!" Ha ha ha!

I think you meant to say "fucked up."

Ben in Star Wars

Because he WOULD be more powerful. Obi-Wan knew that if he died, he would be more closely connected with the force. He would remain the same person with the same powers of a Jedi, yet Darth Vader would never be able to touch him. Plus, now he could never stop him from connecting with Luke and guiding him in the ways of the force.

I think that the OT will remain strong. The PT is popular now because, well, it is popular. It is the most recent. But what is everyone talking about? That is right - ROTS. Nobody is talking about TPM or AOTC. Why? Because they are 6 and 4 years old respectivly.

In 15 years lets see how well the PT holds up against the OT. I'm pretty sure that most people will be identifying again with OT.
