'Merge' Article- Lucas in his own words
Time
Hey, I like Star Trek. *wink*

I just wish Lucas would stop skirting the issues. Okay, so we all thought that episodes 7, 8, and 9 were going to happen, but that was pre-ROTJ. Lucas combined all of those story ideas into one movie, so essentially when you watch the end of ROTJ you are watching what would have happend at the end of Episode 9.

Why doesn't he just come out and say that instead of, "Oh it is all a lie by the media." We all know that the sequal trilogy won't happen because that trilogy is basically ROTJ in a nutshell. But we had to find that out through secondary sources instead of Lucas himself because he a friggen' liar.

Ha! Now that is funny! Hell, everyone could use a good beer now and than. And I don't doubt that at somepoint all the cast members smoked. Pretty much everyone did up until the 90's when it was obvious that smoking was killing us.

And Adam, *rolls newspaper into a tube and smacks him on the nose with it* No! No! Bad Adam!

New Gary Kurtz interview!
Time
If that really was Gary saying that (even though it was obviously scripted) I now love this man. What better way to get your point across than turn it into a sketch comedy for all the fans. God bless this man.

And atleast we now know what happened to the sequal trilogy. It got squashed into ROTJ. Which is good, because that means that Lucas won't go back and film it now, further ruining the trilogy.

I must see this movie. I hope that it comes to one of the theaters in this city.

never seen the PT or SE
Time
My dad's friend's wife did that once too. She had never seen them and I begged her to see the trilogy (pre-SE era). I asked her how she could possibly still be alive having not seen Star Wars yet.

She left without the tapes. I was crushed. My mom said it was because I pestered her too much to see them and she left kind of in disgust. But later she did see the movies. Then I was happy.

I also had a friend in my film class last semester who had never seen Star Wars either. She ended up seeing the SE of ANH and ESB, and though I was disapointed, at least it wasn't the DVD. Still wish she saw the OOT though...

Ha ha! It's like tring to catch sand falling through our fingers. Oh man. What hasn't Lucas "touched up" that we aren't aware of yet?

I laugh, OCPmovie, not because I'm making fun of you, but because you probably feel bad about missing that shot. It seems to be more work undoing what Lucas has done, rather than going back and fixing the original footage to making it DVD quality (not that any of us has equipment like that anyway.)

I like how corny things are getting in the "Splinter of the mind's eye" when it comes to technical stuff. Like the lightsaber blade stuff. Apparently in this book Luke can adjust it to the point where the blade looks like an icepick and stab locks with it, and that he has to hook up his blaster to the saber to "charge it up."

Riiiiiight....

It's good for a giggle.

Thinking of Fantasy Movies that came out during the OT
Time
Hell, look at movies that are aimed specifically for kids and yet do so well to this day and are loved by all.

The Lion King
Aladdin
Toy Story 1 & 2
Finding Nemo

Why? Because you don't have fart jokes and people stepping in poo and shouting out of character "Die Jedi, die!" They give credit for the audiance's capacity for understanding and comprehension. It's for kids, but it's not dumbed down.

What bothers me is the fact that he is aware and has admitted to (in his own damn words!) "becoming the very thing that he fought so hard against." He hated corporate film studios and desperately tried to avoid them as much as he could. And yet, now he is the head of a corporate film studio.
He's turned to the dark side, and he knows this plainly, and yet he doesn't seem to care. He's turned "evil," is well aware of it, and sits back and laughs anyway.

And that scares me.

Yep, the voice change with age (and also depending of what you drink and smoke...) but in "Full Throttle", it's really not the "normal" voice of Mark Hamill. He's just acting a not-very-young and vicious character.
Voice also changes in acting...

Is that the game, or the movie? Is there a movie? I donno. I don't pay attention to stuff like that. I'm assuming it is a PS2 game or something.

And I don't think Mark Hamill smokes (if that is what you were implying). It's just good ol' fashion aging. You can even hear it in Mel Blanc towards the end of his life in the 80's when he was voicing Bugs Bunny, Daffy, Elmer Fudd, and the whole lot.

And no more damn changes to the OT! If anything the Yoda of the PT should be fixed. The OT was first. Period. Any discrepancies and any continuity error rest squarely on the PT. If it's messed up, it's because the PT fucked up big time. The end.

Midichlorians are a joke. A great big cosmic joke that Lucas invented to rape the mystisism of the force. Whenever you explain something scientifically it looses all it's wonder.

The only reason that he even mentioned the word "midichlorians" was because he took a writer's hack-job short cut. He needed some semi-plausable reason for Anakin being so "with the force" that he just made it up. Which is a damn shame because I can come up with a much better explination than that right now.

How's this for Anakin's strength with the force? - His mother was a slave. She happen to meet and fall in love with a man who was passing through the system. They slept together and Anakin was conceived. Shortly after her lover left and was unfortunatly killed. She never even knew who he was or ever saw him again, but discovered that she was pregnant. She raised her son alone.
Later, when Obi-Wan reaches the planet, he discovers Anakin and his amazing force ability. He is so impressed with his control of the force and great piloting skills, even through no formal training, and takes him to see master Yoda. (See, now it makes sense from the OT.)

There problem solved. And no mention of Midichlorians.

But in my universe there are no midichlorians anyway. I just ignore it whenever I hear it.

And I always believed that ANYONE could become a Jedi if they wanted to. It was all a mater of how strongly the force flowed from them that determined how good a knight they would become.

Kind of like, say playing the piano. Anyone can do it, even me, it is just a mater of training. But some people (like my brother for instance) have a natural gift with music and you could say that the "force is strong with this one," while someone like me...well, sucks at music.

Got my friday. Wonderful. Love it, love it, love it.

Also, during the ending celebration the whole scene looks a little hot in the orange and red spectrum. I don't know if that is because of the laserdisc footage or DVD footage, but it looks a little over saturated to me. Am I the only one who sees this?

And, yay! Winking Luke is back! Take that, Lucasfilm film butchers! You and your pink lightsabers and your - your mat-box tiefighers, you!

I think Mark Hamill said it best when he said (and I know I'm paraphrasing slightly), "That's the great thing about the Darth Vader character. You don't need an elaborate backstory to him. Everything that you need to know about him is right there in the original movies."

Also, I'm reading the old 1978 Star Wars book "Splinter of the Minds Eye" and in the re-issueing of the book a few years ago there is a introduction by Lucas that plainly states in his own words "That his story was too big to fit in one movie, and that he had to break it up into 3 parts. The original trilogy, the further adventures, and the back story, making a total of 9 films."

Heh, and he says that the "Sequal trilogy" is just a figment of the media's imagination. That lying basterd.

rotj sucks now because of the PT?

*raises her wine glass* Hear! Hear! I agree, good sir.

ROTJ is still wonderful. The PT can't even touch that movie. If there are any inconsistancies, it is because the PT couldn't pull it's head out of it's ass and become a great film trilogy.

It still get goosebumps to this day whenever I watch the final duel between Vader and Luke. It's not fancy, but it doesn't have to be. Luke doesn't need to do a fly-fly-turny-fly-kick to Vader's face and stuff. Luke is caught up in pure rage and is just swinging his saber around trying to kill Vader. The music is what sells that scene and I love it.

Then followed up by the Emperor killing Luke slowly on the throne room floor as Luke cries out in pain, begging his father to do something; anything.

I didn't see anything of that caliber in the PT. Not once.

If anything ROTJ is a BETTER film because of the PT.

Yesterday (I was bored) I pulled out my ROTS DVD and was watching the first deleted scene with Shak-ti and the dialogue was so bad that I literly screamed out in horror. My aunt came downstairs to see if I was okay. She thought that I had either broke my toe or that I was turning into the Incredible Hulk.

I mean, for god's sake!! Could the dialogue get anymore worse!? Here you have that girl die, rather, blandly, and then you've got Anakin say, "That was a bad." Followed by an even worse line by Obi-Wan, "Mistake."

AURUGHHH!!
"That was a bad." is not a sentance people! Learn some grammar. You need a subject to tie in with that predicate! Aughh! The fact that Obi-Wan then woodenly says "mistake" just makes me cry. Who the hell talks like that?

I noticed that too. Yoda just sort of became a retard in the PT. I pretty much lost all respect for the PT Yoda when he turned into "Yoda the flying squirrel" at the end of AOTC. I was like, "Well, that's it then. This Yoda is dead to me." The dialogue just clinched it for me.

I did like "Yourself you speak of, or someone you know." line. That seemed to be the only line delivered that made sense. Everything else he said seemed to have been dumped in to a mail-order "Yoda dialogue generator" Quisinart that Lucas concocted at the ranch for latenight shoppers.

Get rid of those stupid rings around Aldderan and the Death Star (and the second death star) when they blow up.

I mean, come on!
That is just a blatant rip off of Star Trek: 6 movie when the Klingon moon "Praxsis" exploded. If Lucas was going to "update" the shot and make it look "cooler," then why didn't he just make an ever extending spherical shockwave grow out of the destruction. That would make more sense as opposed to the Saturn ring effect he used - three freaking times!!

I think it would look more realistic if there was this giant plasma-looking sphere that expanded out of the Aldderan and Death Star distruction.

Actually, the ring around the Death Star wasn't that bad because I found it believeable that a shock wave ring could expand out from the DS equator since it did have the huge equator trench. Unfortunatly the ring expands out perpendicular to where the equator trench lies. So, dammit. That didn't work either.

Just leave it alone Mr. Lucas. It was fine.

A Future For Futurama?
Time
I have a hard time believing that Billy West actually posts on his own fan made message board.

But that aside, I am very excited about the Futurama movies. See? I told ya' so!! Too bad that they are straight to DVD movies and not Cinema movies, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Viva la Futurama!

This is the way to end a story. With well thought out, scripted movies, and not a slow death march towards season 16.

Even though Lucas didn't have the whole backstory writen yet, you can see it in Alec Guinness' acting when Luke asks him, "How did my father die?" You see him shift uncomfortably and pause and think about how he is going to "break the news" to Luke. He couldn't bear to tell Luke the truth, so he didn't flat out lie, but he sure bent the truth.

Luke knew nothing of his father. Why should Obi-Wan burden him with how horrible a person he turned out to be? Tell him about the man he was, not the man he became. He knew that if Anakin had died in battle or something, he would have wanted Luke to have his father's lightsaber. Sure, Anakin never flat out told Obi-Wan that, but the two were close and Obi-Wan was making assumptions that he was sure to be true.
