I don't understand any of this Blue-Ray stuff that people talk about. I barely understand and remember when VHS become bunk and DVD was the way to go. But with Blue-Ray?... bah. I'll hope for it when I fully understand what it is. I have a standard TV tube. I have no moneys to buy me a nice HDTV set, and the one that my father has...I don't even watch the HD channels anyway.
This thread derailment has been brought to you by light speed briefs.
I don't know about debate and stuff but "Song of the South" is not getting the DVD release it should. In fact, it has never been released. Ever. On any format.
I also hear people bitch about "Blade Runner," but considering I've only seen it once, I can't remember what they were complaining about.
CGI insertion is a relativly new thing and as time progresses and film directors become old and more delusional there is bound to be more tampering. We are just seeing the first signs of this now.
But it still could work. It did happen a long time ago. Maybe if Doc Brown invented a space ship Marty could go back in time and help fight along side the Rebels.
The ultimate fan cross over! I think I just gave myself a nergasm.
Is this on the '04 DVD or the SE version? I only have the SE version and I don't remember the line "So you think you'd make a good pilot?" I do remember a "You think you can handle her? -- Sir, Luke is the best bush pilot this side of the galaxy. -- You'll do alright" lines, but I don't remember anyone walking in front of the camera.
But now that I think about it, that dude didn't need much convincing that Luke was a great pilot.
It's like graduation over here. It's finally done and over, and we get to have our beloved movies. But also a little sad because many of us will move on now that the "war is over."
It was a long winter fight, but we finaly have victory. I can now pull my 1997 VHS editions out of the back and present them forward. They sit there, unwatched, but loved because of the memories tied with them when I was young and all my giggly school girl friends and I lined up at the theater to see these movies again...for the first time (I was born in 1983.)
My PT DVDs can now retire their jobs as table costers and have a place of peace in my DVD cabinet. The movies may not have been that great, but by god... the memories I will hug tight forever. The hype, the long line for tickets, the giddy feeling all summer long as I listened to my latest soundtrack edition.
Thank you George. I'm glad we are on speaking terms again. It had been much too long.
Now, let's just hope that it doesn't suck! I want them to be good and original, but I want good quality sound too. No fuzz or hairs on the screen from the film. This isn't a 1920's silent movie. Lucas, don't piss this away.
Oh man, I am hoping that this is true, but I'll believe it when I see it. Right now, I'm not even going to loose sleep over it.
And even though the "originals" don't exist anymore, that must just be in Lucas' mind because there is a copy in the salt mine vaults in the USA government compound thing. I know this because I saw a History Channel on the mine and they specifically mentioned that "From The Wizard of Oz to Star Wars" is in the Hollywood film vault.
And saying that it won't be as clean as the "cleaned up" version is stupid. They had to clean the original before they went back and messed it all up anyway.
I will remake this movie. Sure it sucked when it was made, and my remake won't make any money, but by god, if money was given to make "Son of the Mask" and "Lost in Space" I'm sure some Hollywood movie company will give me the rights to remake this classic snoozer film.
Lucas would make a good chunk of change if he released the OOT on DVD, no doubt about it. But his eventual release (because it WILL happen) of the OOT will not be for money. It will be due to pressure from the fans and the company, or his eventual death. But doing it for the money? No. Lucas has stated many times that he would actually loose money if he put it out on DVD (which is bull, but then again Lucas likes to make up crazy crap all the time.)
Yeah, I'm not an EU fan by any means. Which is ironic because I eat up Star Trek books like they are candy. I have about 27 of those that I've bought and read since I was 12. I donno. Maybe because those are episodal stories where Star Wars is more of a "tail."
But anyway, I may be out of luck this summer for a Star Wars books by what you guys are telling me. Which is okay because I have my H. G. Wells classics I have to finish along with about 3 other books on my stand. I just wanted a good Star Wars story I guess. Still feeling the vibrations from last year where I was reading Episode III while listening to my soundtrack. (Which I highly recomend by the way. Much better way of viewing the PT movies.)
Okay, finals are just about done and summer is upon me. So that means that I need some good book recomendations. Specifically Star Wars books. And I think this is the best place to ask for it.
Tell me what you think is best and what I need to avoid. I'm a bit of a literary snob and a Star Wars purist to the core. Most books I've seen apear to be mostly on par with Fan Fictions rather than compelling stories, but I am very interested in finding a fantastic Star Wars book to read and value what you guys can tell me. This is my base so far so maybe you can recomend something:
I've read all 6 movie adaptations of the films (PT in hard back, OT in paper back). I enjoyed them, and the PT books more than the movies themselves.
I have read Splinter of the Minds Eye. I mostly read it for a giggle since it was writen before ESB. It was okay/good, but the ending left the story hanging. Not cool. I was upset.
I have also read The Truce at Bakura but that was almost 10 years ago and apprently didn't leave a very deep impression on me. I got it because it was the day after ROTJ and hoped that it would be on par with the movie. I keep the book for sentimental reasons, but I don't think I'll ever pick it up again. It bored me.
I have also read the first chapter of Shadows of the Empire. I closed the book and brought it back to the library shortly after. A meterosexual villan guy who is envious over Vader's position becase he desperatly wants to impress the Emperor and be his "number one dude?" Bah. No thanks. Not a plot I can get too excited over.
I have also read book 1 of the Han Solo Trilogy. It was pretty good, but not enough for me to continue on to the other 2 books. I don't think that I even remember what the book was about actually...
So there you have it. Can you help a girl out? I don't want to read a book in the middle of some continuing saga though, such as the life of Leia's kids and stuff. I don't want to have to read 7 books so I understand the 8th book you said was the best.
I've heard good things about Rogue Squadron though. I'm a Wedge fan, so if this is sort of the Star Wars story angle but from the X-Wing fighters perspective, that would be so bitchin'.
After reading that page, all I can say is that Mace Windu fucking sucks.
I don't know exctly whas this is the only thing that is sticking out in my mind. But talking about the fight sequence between him and the Emperor....I hate Mace Windu. When he was killed I felt nothing. Now I just feel embarassment because he is quite possibly the most lame character with the worst death. Tops Boba Fetts death by 20%.
I'm not sorry to see my job go. I hated it, and apparently it hated me. My bosses don't have a problem with me personally, I just suck at being an office girl. I can't do it. It conflicts with my personality so badly that I'm honostly not that upset. You can't even crack a joke in that office. There is never any laughing, and when I first started working there I was told on several time that I was being too loud. I quieted up and have been that way for like a year now.
My job was killing me and I'm just now realizing this. I mean, I'm not complaning or anything. I'm not a bad worker (my work ethic is top notch) but there are just some jobs out there that suck, but you have to try anyway. I tried and my boss said "This isn't working, I'm going to have to let you go."
I told her, "whatever. It's not that big of a deal. I was planning on quiting for the fall so I could do an internship. My time table just got bumped up a bit. I'll do my last two shifts and be out of here."
Funny thing is, on Friday when I show up...what am I going to do? I'm probably gonna be all smiles because I can't think of how else to act. It's like this great secret that only I know. None of my other coworkers got the boot but me. I think I'll bring my book and read it.
"Can you make me some copies?" "No, I'm afraid I can't. You see, I'm just to the good part and I need to see what happens on the next page."
But then they would ask me to just leave and I would loose my 10 hours of extra pay. Not a good idea. Damn, even when I'm fired I still have to be nice! Oh gods of administration! Why do you torment me!?
Just a general question. I know that people get fired from time to time. Due to lay-offs or negligance, but who here as actually been fired before? What's your story and how did it happen?
Mine's not too terribly funny, but I did get fired yesterday. Nice.
I'm (well was, I guess) a receptionist/secretary who had been working there for a year and I got fired yesterday. Not because I'm horrible or anything, but because "it just wasn't working out." Oooookay. I kind of expected this (there were hints and all), but wow talk about being blind sighted.
But the funny part is that technically I was fired yesterday, though I still get to show up for work for the next 2 days because I need the money. After that I'm done. I guess I should be wearing a shirt that says "Dead Man Walking," huh?
Now I need to find a new job for the summer. Hmm...
Well, not quite. He did his first year (or semester, I forget which) at Kubisaki High School, which is on Camp Lester, Okinawa, Japan. I went to Kadena High School which is on Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa. Mark eventually moved to the mainland where he graduated high school in Yokosuka. But it's still pretty cool. He may have graduated HS in the late 60's and I in '02, but we both grew up as military children on the same Japanese island, and that is awesome.
My mother has also worked with an immediate family member of Tim Hagan, a local politician...who just happens to be married to Kate Mulgrew.
My aunt's best friend does Kate Mulgrew's taxes. Well, DID her taxes anyway. She has since changed companies. But I did just get her autograph through my aunt's friend because, lord knows, I'm about the biggest Star Trek Voyager fan out there.
Also, my brother was in Tim Berton's "Big Fish" movie. It rocked. I drove him to the set every day for like 2 weeks when they were filming in the town we were living in at the time. Woo!

Mine? Well, I'm the great, great, great grand-daughter to the last German Kaiser. Pretty bitchin'.
No Way. Kaiser Wilhelm, right?
Yes, I believe that is correct. His grandpa or something had a daughter (I don't know her name) who renounced her line to the throne so that she could marry a commoner. I wish I had more details, but I've only learned what I know from my aunt. Maybe my mom knows more... The details are a little muddy but the line is direct.
Lucas thinks we are all idiots. It's a classic western bar room shoot up. Is Lucas that arrogant to think that none of us have ever been exposed to a western before? Of course Han would shoot first, otherwise he would have been killed, and that would have sucked.
