The legendary "Starkiller Ranch" Thread
Time
Erik,

Regarding the pod race... I'm not trying to be mysterious about it. It's just a sequence that's very firmly grounded in complicated visuals. I'm not sure a text version would be much help to the editor. It's not really something where you can write out each shot. I mean, I probably could. But I don't want to. Lucas does the same thing, when it comes to the duels, he simply writes "They fight".

But the main points you all need to know are:

-The race will be much shorter, more exciting and easier to understand what's happening.

-It will have completely new music.

-There will be no two-headed announcer.

-No Jabba. No Wald (Warwick Davis in a Greedo costume). No C-3PO. No Kitster.

-All shots with goofy cgi pilots, the pit droid "Three Stooges" routine, fart/burp jokes, and all other foolishness will be removed.

-Anakin will not be using any sort of overt Force powers during the race, as had been previously discussed on this thread. We decided against it. Anakin will win the race through determined piloting skill and his heightened reflexes.

-The content and pace will be very similar to MagFan's edit, minus all of the things mentioned above.

-We're going to try to find a way to make Anakin's victory celebration at the end less abrupt. In the original, Anakin wins and then it just wipes to the next scene, no time to really enjoy the magnitude of his victory, musically or otherwise. So, we're working on finding a way to make it better. His victory is a big event, both on his path to becoming a Jedi and for the eventual fate of the galaxy. It should feel big.

I think that pretty much covers it. If you guys have any other questions about it, let us know.

Info: Holiday Special on 16mm?

And then he's got the actual filmstrip layed out all over his carpet, looks like he's playing jump-rope with it. That's not the way I'd treat an extremely rare artifact from the 70's, especially one I was trying to sell for the highest price. Why didn't he hold some of that up to the light so we could verify it's the actual holiday special?

I, for one, wouldn't place a bid until I saw Bea Arthur's happy holiday face smiling back at me firsthand.

I just saw him two or three days ago on the Today Show talking to Matt Lauer and he said they're closer than they've ever been to making the fourth one, and he thinks it's really gonna happen this time. That was after some promotion for his new film Firewall, where they showed him in clips doing all his own stunts.

Info: HEY! You Fan Editors are all mini George Lucases!!
Time
Okay, once again...... I think almost everyone on this board has said, we don't give a %*#@ how many changes Lucas makes to the saga. He can edit it until the cows come home. But not if that's the only version he releases! By doing that he's forcing the changes down our throat. And the fact is, his screw ups in the seventies and eighties were ten times better than his greatest sucesses in the most recent years.

My biggest problem with him is NOT his penchant for editing and re-editing, but his unrestrained affinity for dwarves, badly executed cgi, fart jokes, and any other "gumdrops and lollipops" that will feed his marketing empire. In the 70's, he was a visionary of the independant film movement, rebelling and spitting in the eye of the evil corporate studios. But, now he has become the very thing he had sworn to destroy.

So, if he's intent on editing it his way, and not providing us with the original, while turning the long-awaited backstory into a trainwreck that looked like something the bloated corpse of Walt Disney barfed up... (Okay, that was harsh) ...Then I say "screw it, I'm editing it my way". And I encourage the rest of you who spend time on message boards bitching about the things you hate about the saga and how Lucas dropped the ball to do the same. You don't like it? Edit it to your satisfaction then. Or bitch about it to someone who's in the process of making an edit with the hopes that they'll address your problems.

Even if the Prequels were bad, there are some good things about them. They can be rebuilt. They can be made better. And the OT can and has been returned to its original glory.

Like a kid with an alcoholic parent, I just think there's something within all of us that has such a love for Star Wars that it compells us to want to make it right. Call it an intervention on behalf of our childhood.

Audience reaction? They were made for TV! Who gives a crap about TV audience reaction? If they can have a nightly show where scantily-clad women force insects down their throats to the point of regurgitation for cash, then I'd say pretty much ANYTHING goes!

I've never seen any of the Young Indy's myself. Just never caught 'em when they were aired. I've been waiting for the (inevitable) DVD release. I hear Ian McDiarmid plays a small role as Indy's uncle. And was it actually Harrison playing Old Indy? In make-up or something?

But then... So do you, Adam.

Anyway, does anyone know for sure if this thing is even a possibility? I mean, I know before VCR's were mainstream most people had little projectors set up in their basements to watch home movies and so forth. Could an official "watch at home" version have been sanctioned and released by Lucasfilm and/or CBS in the big marketing frenzy that encompassed all that was Star Wars? It would be a good question to ask Steve Sansweet. If there ever was one, it's a good bet he has a copy.

Jabba on the Dais!!!
Time
Glad I could've potentially made milk spew out your nostrils, theredbaron. As long as it's not some of Aunt Beru's blue milk, I don't have a problem with it. (Blue milk leaves a stain.)

Dr. Zaius!

Now watch this video and compare the two songs, you'll see what I mean.

And thanks, GreenCapt! Not for the porntrooper, but for the simple fact that I can't get that friggin' song out of my head now! "On the dais, on the dais - Jabba on the dais!" Everybody now...!!!

Sick, sick stuff on this board.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Knightmessenger, are you implying that ours isn't promising?

Not to worry, Trooperman is an independant soul, I think he'll eventually end up having his own final version of all of the films, or at least the first three. So that'll hopefully filter out most of our ineptitude for ya, KM.

My question is, how can you have an edit this drastic, with this many changes, and NOT contradict the other five films?
