.:. MoveAlong's - The Story of Star Wars .:. Complete!
Time
Just watched this, MoveAlong. GREAT, GREAT job! I can imagine how difficult it must've been to line all the visuals up with the record, but you pulled it off perfectly. Nice idea, nice DVD design. Menus are very professional looking. Easter egg is great. It's all really incredible.

I'd consider this a must-have DVD for the collection of anyone who loves the OOT and was among the first generation of SW fans. I remember my older brother used to have this record and it was on all the time when he was playing with his SW figures, so it brought back some good memories for me.

Thanks for making this! It's brilliant! I'm looking forward to ESB and ROTJ, if you plan to do them.

Unfortunately, I'm also going to have to drop a bombshell and announce my departure from this project. I'm sorry this is so sudden.

Many things have changed in the last few weeks and this is going to be an extremely busy year for me. I can no longer devote the amount of time necessary for continuing work on this project.

This deeply saddens me because I believe in this edit, I have from day one. And I still believe it can be great. We've all poured our hearts into it over the last several months and we have built a great framework for an improved Episode I. That's why I hope Commander Courage or whoever else will take charge of the Ranch and push on and finish it. Maybe some of you can help out.

If not, then...we tried. Something to file in the "maybe some day" category.

But I hope you guys finish it.

My apologies to Trooperman that I did not follow through with what I promised you...but...life happens. You know?

I have every confidence that "Shroud of the Dark Side" will be very successful.

I wish the very best of luck to my friends: TM, TJ, CC, MTH, DP, Erikstormtrooper and MusicMan.... You're all extremely talented and goodhearted people. It's been a great time working with all of you.

And to the rest of you...your help has been greatly appreciated. I hope you are rewarded one day with a really kick-ass edit.

MTFBWY....always....

Sincerely,

InfoDroid

GREAT job, Erik!

I actually photoshopped one of these a few months ago but it didn't come out as good as this! That's why I never posted it. But, this is EXACTLY how I wanted it to look! And red is an interesting choice for the color. I hadn't even thought of that. I think this should definitely go at the beginning of our edits.

I might fool with the glow a little, but it looks awesome! Thanks again, Erik!

They're from the Starkiller Ranch edit.

Just to explain: The first one depicts a new approach to the planet of Tatooine before "landing near the outskirts". The second one is a triumphant "flying home" shot after the droid control ship has been destroyed to match the end of ANH and ROTJ. And the third is a newly created shot of Nute's shuttle landing on Naboo just after the Jedi rescue the Queen.

These are just three of a series of new shots being created for our edit of Episode I.

We're looking into what can be done with masking the cockpit windows, and possibly adding a hyperspace effect. It seems only right for us to see it in the first film. TJ is already trying something similar with the windows behind Anakin's cockpit in the end space battle scenes, not with hyperspace, but with manipulating what's happening outside the windows.

Jesus Cartoon controversy
Time
Maybe I'm the only one, but I immediately saw the "hidden truth", or at least what the the artisits were trying to suggest in the political cartoon aimed at Christ. The name of the character he's fellating is called "Capitalist Piglet", the character I assume represents the Capitalist "system" in America, corrupt corporate fat-cats, "the Bush Administration", etc...

To me, it seems to be a statement about mainstream Christianity's seemingly blind and unwavering endorsement (if not outright campaigning) of the Republican party over recent years and the current neo-conservative administration they helped to power.

Not saying I agree with it. That's just what I read into it, since it IS meant to be a political cartoon, and obviously, artwork of that type tends to have an underlying message, hence the point. Granted, it's put across in very crude and inflammatory terms, but I assume that's keeping in tone with the artist's style and with rest of the series. There is truth to the cartoon, depending on your point-of-view.

Do I understand why some people are offended? Yes. Am I offended? No. Because I was taught in middle school that characters in political cartoons should not be understood as they appear overtly, but rather, as what they represent.

And is it okay for radical Muslims to burn down cities, kill people, and disrupt the economy of all of Denmark over one cartoonist's political views? Absolutely not. Anymore than it's okay for radical Christians to get worked up over this. For one thing, both Christ and Mohammed taught tolerance. And for another, it's not socially acceptable.

Can't understand why people can't just see something they don't like, shut their eyes and walk away. But no, it's gotta be "I'm right, you're wrong, let's have a culture war and set everything ablaze!"

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)
Time
Yeah, you should get rid of the bedroom scene, TM. "They couldn't adapt, and they all died..." just does nothing to help the story. I'm not sure what kind of point Lucas was trying to make with this scene, something about Padme's alien friends not being able to adapt physically to a new environment mirroring Anakin's inability to adapt emotionally to a new situation... Whatever. Obviously, Lucas didn't know either, which is why he cut it. And why it should stay cut. I've seen it used in other edits, and it's distracting and truly pointless. Unless you can do something with a dialogue fix to make it somehow poignant or profound. Though, I don't see that happening, since Padme is doing most (if not all) of the talking.

And TM, Darth Richard makes a good point, have you put any more thought/made a decision on how/if to incorporate Maul=Greivous into the film in some small way? Is that a possibility that's still on the table, or have we jettisoned that idea?

OT.com fan edit blog: your thoughts please (Update: development underway)
Time
Sounds GREAT, Jay!

Fanedit.com would just be an incredible thing. There's definitely a need for it!

Let's see... In addition to the ones noted above:

-maybe a place to put what special features are included

-a place to add how your edit differs from other edits that have been done.

-a place to link to a trailer.

-a user rating system would be VERY helpful.

Also, if there's more than one person working on the edit, would all of them have access to enter info in the blog, or would they all have seperate blogs? Maybe have a main "official" blog, with the ability to link to the personal blogs of each individual department. Then, people would be able to click and find out the progress of the writing, the music, the editing, the effects, etc individually. I know a feature like that would be extremely helpful over at our Ranch Edit thread.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. This is all very exciting!

Idea: Fan Edit of ROTJ
Time
Just for the record, the Ranch "officially" doesn't feel "jacked". In fact, it introduces a sense of friendly competitive urgency for us to be "the first" to get our version out there. That's why we're contemplating the suggestion of jumping to ROTJ after TPM is finished.

My esteemed colleage, CC, is very protective of his ideas. He forgets to mention, however, that he "borrows" a lot of his stuff from either theforce.net or MagFan.

Just kidding, CC! But, sheesh, do I really have to put a disclaimer behind you?

Anyway, the point is, I don't want anyone getting a bad taste in their mouths about the Ranch based on his post. We don't play like that, we're all about the free flow of ideas. "The views and opinions expressed by CC on this thread are his alone, and do not necessarily reflect those of The Ranch or any of its subsidiary threads."

So, I apologize for any misunderstanding, and please, have fun! I look forward to reading what you guys come up with!

Psychologically speaking, people who feel a very strong sense of powerlessness in their lives are prone to pedophilia, because they're able to exert or inflict their "power" on someone who is not physically capable of resisting them.

Oddly enough, they're also prone to an unusual (and unholy) obsession with the Star Wars Holiday Special, and to spamming uninterested online message boards with their incessant off-topic opinions, theories, and masturbatory habits...often hijacking threads, yet rarely adding anything to the topic being discussed.

That's the official "textbook" example anyway...

The idea of switching Death Star footage is a great idea. Not sure if it would work 100% but its worth a try.

This is a very intriguing idea, Erik. Something I've never considered. Not sure if I'd want to try it for the saga edit, but maybe for one with a different theme. A bit radical, but that's what we like on this thread.

I like CC's suggestion about an "Inifinities" edit, where we take all available footage and create a totally different story out of it. Anything would be possible. Maybe something to think about for the future...
