Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

The new preview looks great, except for one thing: You raised the shadows and gave them a tint of cyan. I know the shadows are slightly blue-tinted in Mike's shot but it was the same with other shots he posted. It's simply because he hadn't color corrected them yet.

A couple comparisons with my render vs this preview:

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/3097/comparison1.th.pnghttp://img46.imageshack.us/img46/8751/comparison2g.th.png

Han's boot looks green instead of black now. And while the tweak looks better on the shot of Greedo, the cyan shadows are still there.

Try this approach instead: use curves and make a middle point (x127 y127) on green and blue and move them slightly to the left and find some balance. That will be able to make Greedo more green but leave shadows and whites intact.

Yeah, I noticed that the boot changes colors while watching the latest clip "greedo scene new".  At 0:25 it has a green tint, then at 0:32 it's black then at 0:37 green tint and then at 0:57 black again.

Hi Harmy, should the footage not be 24fps?

J

That is what I was thinking as well.  Harmy, didn't I read somewhere that you work in 30 fps and then lower it at the final step?

EDIT: Never mind, I thought the frame loss was when he was adding his despecialized scenes (thinking they were a higher fps than the rest of the video).  Hopefully someone else may have the solution.

With regard the the subtitle shake (and please someone correct me if I am wrong).  But wouldn't the subs be burned into the film itself and the shake would be caused by it going through projector?  If so, then wouldn't the whole film have such a shake (opening credits, etc)?  I understand you are trying to do a high quality restoration of the original trilogy, which I am grateful for - but to replicate what was caused by the projector and not what was was actually in the film itself seems like a bad idea to me.  It would be similar to adding cigarette burn marks in the corners, because they were seen in theaters from when the film had to be spliced together.

Please understand I mean no disrespect, and it is likely I am misunderstanding what caused the subtitle shake.  But if the shake wasn't on the actual film print then I don't think it should be part of the restoration/reconstruction.

And here's a little sample - right is with, left is without:

I too would vote against the added grain and subtitle shake.  With that being said, it (the grain) is pretty subtle and I doubt it would be that noticeable without a direct side by side comparison.  I definitely didn't like the subtitle shake though.

Not to add more fuel to the fire, but I think I have found a very minor glitch as well.  I haven't put in my copy of GOUT to see if it exists there or not, but at 0:31, after STAR WARS appears on the screen but before IT IS A PERIOD OF CIVAL WAR appears all the stars on the bottom portion of the picture suddenly get brighter.

I watched the first half of Star Wars the other night - very nice job sir!  I found two possible glitches, but I am guessing they are just parts where you had to slow down/speed up the video to match it with the audio, but figured I'd point them out just in case.

1. (42:52) Right before the "these aren't the droids you're looking for" line the video around the stormtroopers head and the background seemed somewhat choppy.

2. (50:00) Right when Han is about to shoot Greedo and says "yes, I bet you have" he tilts his head to his right - the motion of his head tilting seems choppy.

Something where the spines span across to form a larger picture?  I was leaning toward the 3 disc cover till I noticed it doesn't give the info the individual ones do (audio tracks), which is understandable since you have less room to work with.  Needless to say I am sticking with the individual ones (printing them now actually).

Harmy's THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK Despecialized Edition HD - V2.0 - MKV & AVCHD (Released)

1. The current versions are all v1.0

2. I would use the same source I used before (Ady's 14GB mkv).

Ok, thanks.  With all the talk of 1.2 for SW and 2.0 for ESB, I was thinking they were currently 1.1 and 1.9 or something along those lines.  Thanks again for the great release.  I haven't been on here since the Dr Gonzo and TR47 days, amazing how much progress has been made over the years.

Well, v1.2 of STAR WARS is indeed being worked on now but it won't be done for quite a while and I do plan to do v2.0 of ESB but that's months down the line.

First off thank you very much for the despecialized trilogy.  I have downloaded all 3 and have watched the first 30 min or so of Star Wars.  If Vader were to see these I believe his response would be, "Impressive.  Most impressive."  I did have two quick questions:

1. What are the current versions of these edits?  I'd like to write them on the discs that way I can tell if a newer version comes out.

2. If you do decide to go through with an updated ESB, will you use the .x264-DON (2004 SE) as the source?  I noticed you used that as the source for both SW and ROTJ, but not ESB...

Info Wanted: Anyone Planning on making Anamorphic versions using 2006 OUT DVDs?
Time
Can anyone help me with doing the conversion. I thought I had everything set up correctly, but I get the following error when going to the "encode" step using DVD Rebuilder v0.97.
ERROR:
D:\A2AVS\item.ecl is not a ECL for Cinema Craft Encoder. SP.

I have CCE 2.7 SP installed, and path set correctly in DVD Rebuilder. Any ideas?
