3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!

Why would anyone go to watch this in one of the select 2D theaters?  And advertising a movie being in 2D seems like the epitome of redundancy.

I reckon there'll be plenty of 'TPM' fans (and first-timers) out there that dislike the look of 3D in general...or are unlucky enough to be adversely-affected by it...or just grudge the extra expense...  And those with only one eye will probably be glad of the choice too... ;)

Anyone grab this color error'd version before the pull downs?  Missed it...

Official SW channel has the corrected trailer up:

You mean you somehow missed the working link at the bottom of my 1st post on the previous page? ;)

Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for sticking up that corrected trailer link, as that over-saturated 'French' version was the only non-YELLOW one that I could find yesterday.  The proper one you've put up looks far better where the colours are concerned.

If this is the final color grading its an absolute fail of epic proportions.

Not sure if you're referring to the recent YELLOW trailer upload or not, but here's another link that's now appeared since then.  Although it's in 'French', it seems to show the colouration that's more likely to be seen in cinemas eventually... ;)   (hit the 'full screen' icon on the video for maximum impact) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ansRdMzWFGY

3D STAR WARS for the masses...has ARRIVED!
Time

So the masses don't have much longer to wait now, it seems...

Since my initial post here about this way back in 2009, certain 3D movies have gone on to give me and mine a great time at the movies, albeit a pricey one at times!  If only the 'powers-that-be' hadn't ended up charging an extra 'premium' for this latest 3D revival in the first place...  However, I'm fully aware that there's plenty out there that *still* wouldn't like the effect even if they'd been been charged the same rate as seeing a 2D movie.

Anyway, the idea of being able to see a 3D version of the 'Original Trilogy' on the big screen one day, was something that would have amazed me when I was younger, and although the attraction has waned since then due to too many alterations for the worse...and a general debasement of the franchise with disappointing follow-ups overall...the notion of seeing some of my favourite (as-yet-unspoiled, apart from the colour) movie scenes in this format, remains strong...

...so much so, that I'll be braving the more dire moments of the 'official' version of 'The Phantom Menace' once again, come February next year...just to satisfy my curiosity of how well the 'conversions' of the overall 'saga' are going to look when 'dimensionalized'...

Personally, I haven't yet decided if it was hilarious or just sadly typical that the recent trailer to hit the net happened to be so strangely-coloured...and happened to end with a nerve-grinding 'NOOOOOOOOOOOO!'...  But even George himself might balk at putting out *this* particular 'colour-grading' theatrically! ;)

Anyway, I'll be interested to hear if anyone actually sees this attached with anything onscreen at some point, to hear how it looked in actual 3D.  In the meantime until a better-coloured version appears, here's a working embed of the gloriously YELLOW trailer (hit the 'full screen' icon on the video for maximum impact) - http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=32319

Info Wanted: Adywan's Ep.5: Revisited Release Date
Time

bespin said:

I was wondering if anyone knows when Ep.5: Revisited will be released.  Another question I have is.  Does anyone know who Adywan is?

Welcome aboard bespin.

The estimated release date is now hoped to be May 2012 according to adywan himself.  He's an elusive character, possessed of supernatural artistic and technical powers and a keen eye, who works his magic from a hidden base deep in darkest England, UK.

You can find many other answers in the following links, if you root around  -

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

Hey I'm not complaining about this edit for the sake of it, Ady did some exceptional stuff. I just find the minute details a little irrelevant, when there are bigger things you could address.

I'm sure there are plenty around here who find the minute details among the most satisfying tweaks being given some attention.  But I'm curious, what are these bigger things that you think still need to be addressed, that haven't been so far?

But wait! isnt a bit late for suggestions? Or will it be for future projects?

ESB:R is still a work in progress, and won't be ready until possibly May 2012, as far as I know.  I don't recall adywan saying there's a cut-off point for any suggestions for this yet, so still plenty of time for him to consider anything that hasn't been thrown up yet.

Whichever track it was, I get why he wanted to tie it together, but musically it doesn't fit with the rest of the score in A New Hope. It's stylistically completely different, which is why I and some others don't like it. The intention is sound, but I think it's the prequels that need adapting to match the OT, not the reverse, and if you really have to do it, it has to match.

I guess it depends on what your own notion of 'matching' entails.  Being so familiar with the original score/music-less 'duel' scene, it was kinda like the 'shock of the new' to me at first...but it quickly became one of my absolute favourite 'Revisited'-style moments of adywan's particular 'special edition' variation.

And since adywan *does* intend to adapt his 'Revisited' prequel versions to match the OT a bit more in certain ways, we may end up hearing a snippet of the original trilogy scores in one of *those* eventually too, who knows?...

Anyhoo, as far as ESB:R is concerned, I hope to finally finish my humongous 'Dagobah' post tomorrow to make up for my off-topicness.  :)  I fully expect some controversy, lol.

Then again, Ady did stick Duel of the Fates into Star Wars when it doesn't match hehe ;-)

Wasn't that music a version of 'Battle of the Heroes' in fact?  I still reckon it's one of my favourite 'Revisited' additions, and I'm delighted that adywan hopes to include it as an option in his HD re-do eventually for those of us that prefer it included.  And it fitted in, in the sense that it tied the overall saga's music together, as it 'mirrors' the Obi-wan/Anakin duel as heard in ROTS.

fishmanlee, you posted while I was adding to my post.  And I've just realised that the 'vertical lines' mentioned are probably just the black ones seen on that particular poor quality screenshot I posted, as they certainly aren't on the actual footage.  But the white 'speckles' are.

They are there nonetheless.  I'm sure Adywan will spot them if he looks.

If you look closely, there are these vertical lines in dark areas

Not sure what you're referring to here Harmy, but I'm meaning several white 'speckles' that pop up during that shot, that's still evident on the 'workprint' I got a while back.

Adywan, you may recall that I mentioned some print damage (a few brief, but distracting white artifacts that pop in and out) that appears around the time where Luke approaches Leia in the medical area -

...well if you *are* able to erase them, it would be good if you could also get rid of some others that also appear during this effects shot below, when the Falcon turns it's lights on as it enters the asteroid cave -

(note: this is just the original shot I've shown, and not Adywan's nicely enhanced version)

Ah, you just beat me to mentioning that final 'review' link from there Erik.  :)

And here's another one from that site that's worth a quick read, just for completion - http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/revistied-the-ten-things-that-the-forthcoming-star-wars-blu-ray-should-include.html  - it reminded me that there's no trailers on the latest set, so I'm still waiting to get a good version of this particular one, which gave me my first glimpse into a larger world - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BhZI9GcWdI

Going wildly off-topic here (and I promise I won't make a habit of this) but has anyone got the BD of Excalibur? The DVD was woefully mis-framed and I was wondering had this been corrected?

I'll just mention the 2 informative sites below Cuchulainn, as they may be useful in future for anyone that doesn't know about them yet -

According to dvdcompare.net, it seems that the 'Excalibur' dvd was released in both a 1.85:1 aspect ratio and a 1.78:1 aspect ratio depending on what region you happened to be in, while the blu-ray has only been released in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio.

And here's what dvdbeaver.com says about that particular blu-ray title - http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/blu-ray_reviews53/excalibur_blu-ray.htm

I know that Bill Hunt's (TheDigitalBits) take on the blu-rays has been linked to already here, but I've been kinda curious what Chris Gould from DVDActive would post about them eventually.

He did the first set of in-depth comparison shots of the SE changes I ever came across (see their home page), and has now gone into some detail on the audio/visual aspects of the TPM and AOTC blu-rays so far -

I hope you folks haven't forgot that Empire: Revisited is only going as far as 720p in resolution. A new hope: Revisited ( the second version ) is only going as far as 720p also when Ady gets to it. I think Ady said Jedi was going to be 720p also but I'm not for sure.

Last I remember, adywan confirmed that all his eventual 'Revisited' edits will be done in a consistent 720p resolution.

That's plenty resolution to look forward to I reckon, and far preferable to seeing the current blu-ray flaws and mis-steps in 1080p.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

It was interesting to see those various deleted scenes/out-takes shots you posted on the previous page adywan.

It's so frustrating that at least some of these didn't have the same level of attention quality-wise that was given to the Prequel DVD deleted scenes.  And maddening that those previously 'finished' dvd ones aren't even included on this release, of course!

It's bad enough that various sources have been able to bang on about how neat it is that the likes of the white lightsabre 'core's' are restored again in certain shots - BIG DEAL, considering Vader's one has actually taken on a noticeably PURPLE 'glow' now in several shots, while *still* remaining PINK in many others...without them generalizing about how great these deleted scenes are too.

Yeah, some of the scenes themselves may be great, but the lacklustre picture-quality of them is yet another indication of how poor this long-awaited boxset really is overall, compared to how it could have been.

I guess I'll go and console myself with having a little fun on Blu-ray.com in the next few days discussing why their ridiculous five-star rating is wrong on so many levels for this release...

Gah, on top of the same overall shoddy colouration problems and continued dubious changes for this latest release, it also now seems that all the 'deleted scenes' are in a pretty rough state too.

I had really hoped that some of these were going to be potentially useful for future edits such as adywan's ROTJ:REVISITED...but going by certain reports, it's looking like their lack of quality renders them unusable for seamless integration.

So it seems that far more effort went into polishing the deleted scenes for the previous 'Prequel' DVD releases, than what went into these ones on this Blu-ray set.  Yet another disappointing aspect of this release then.  :(

Just as an aside, a neat little 'what if' I came across on the 'Revisited' Facebook page the other day, was this idea by 'The Cutter', that I'd like to share with anyone who missed it.  It's a small antidote to all the recent reminders of Vader's 'NOOOOOoooooooooo!' near the end of ROTS. ;)

As a recap, the actual 'birth of Vader' scene starts at 4 mins. 01 secs. into this clip -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPTr6nfQ7RI

...but things would have come across a little differently if the end of the scene had been done something along these lines instead! -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GvpT_7BMAc

(I'd quite like to see 'The Cutter's' version starting immediately after Vader asks "Where is Padme?", so that we'd then cut to the Emperor replying "It seems in your anger you killed her", then continue his version, but show the original full footage of Vader breaking free and stepping forward, before then having the Emperor 'cackle' as his close-up fades to the wipe of the Tantive IV...discarding the long shot of Vader yelling 'NOOOOOoooooooooo!)
