I would check thrift stores like Goodwill or Salvation Army, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen the fullscreen DVD’s there
Hello, I would be interested in a link to this. Thanks in advance!
I would love a link to your edit as well. Thank you in advance and Happy New Year!
There are laserdisc and DVD versions of the cropped extended version out there, but as the last poster stated, the 2006 DVD Extended Version is only cropped for the Prologue, the rest of the movie is in the 2:35.1 native aspect ratio. Personally, my wish is the the Widescreen Extended Version would be released in full HD, not just the theatrical parts like the Japanese Blu ray, where all of the Extended scenes are upconverted from SD to HD (though they did a decent job of it)
this thread is rather old. However the Third Stage Edition is my favorite version of “Dune”.
Since 2014 a German BluRay of the TV version in widescreen is available.
So if Phineas is still reading this he might be interested in doing a HD 1080p version of his Third Stage Edition.
Please respond in the thread or by PM and I could help out sourcing the TV version on Bluray
If the German Blu ray you are referencing here uses the same master as the Japanese Extended Blu ray, then the Extended scenes are just upscaled to 1080p and are not true HD. They are spliced in with the scenes from the theatrical version, which are true 1080p HD. Do you have a link for the German Blu ray?
Well, if you’re getting that pedantic, RO should be Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. 😉
Noted and corrected, thank you! 😊
I just displayed them the way they were originally released when they came out. In 1980 and '83, the movies were simply released as ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’. They were not originally marketed as ‘Episode 5’ or ‘Episode 6’. So for me, that’s how I remember and associate them. I did edit ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ in my original list though. YMMV
- Star Wars
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
- Return Of The Jedi
- Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith
- Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones
- Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
I am VERY interested in this project! I had the 5 VHS set of this about 15 years ago, but I only have now the afore mentioned 6 hour edited DVD set. Such a great miniseries. I would love if this could be remastered from a high quality source.
Lucas would never have collaborated like JJ did. So no Kasden. He couldn’t have gotten the performance out of Harrison Ford that JJ did.
What performance? Harrison was rather at his average in TFA. Even in ROTJ, when he obviously didn’t want to try too hard, he seems amazing compared to TFA.
I found Harrison Ford to have put in a better performance in TFA than he has done in a long time, certainly better than Crystal Skull. It was Han Solo, not grumbly old Ford like so many of his recent performances.
Lucas might have convinced him to come back via the method of “truckload of money”, but Harrison would have half-assed it. Of course Lucas would have half-assed it as well so it would be consistent.
I remember reading back in 2007 that George had offered Harrison close to $40,000,000 to do Episode VII. Harrison’s response was something like, ‘There’s no way in hell I’m going to let you put me back in that cockpit with Chewbacca again!’ Harrison was excited to do TFA because he thought the script was great and Disney hired the right people to do the movie, and it showed in his performance.
No George Lucas. Should of just handed over the basic outline and bought a ticket on opening night like every one else...
Any progress on this?

Are there NZB's still available for this set?
Hello, would also be interested in the .nzb's for these, thanks in advance!
I am also a fan of the theatrical version over the Director's Cut. Many of the added scenes in the DC take away from the flow of the movie for me. I had thought about trying to do some kind of edit of the Blu-ray at some point to try and recreate the theatrical cut, but I simply don't have time to dedicate to such a project. I still have the flipper DVD, but obviously the PQ or AQ are not on par with the Blu-ray
Is there an HD version of this out there somewhere? I really liked the cut but It would be gorgeous in HD.
Wouldn't that be wonderful!
Happy (almost) B-day Harmy, thanks for the update
Not sure about how to replace the single frame, but as to encoding each reel seperately, once encoded you can import them all into tsMuxer. Add the first reel, the hit the 'append' button to sequentially add the other reels. From there save your file to whatever file format you choose. This will give you one seemless master file that won't have to be reencoded. From there you can just demux the video or add it as is into whatever program you use to merge files to a .mkv file
The Force is strong with this one...
'I (almost) have you now, Skywalker!' (Or in this case, PSB) :)
Using tsMuxer, and provided the video stream is compliant (1280 x 720, or 1920 x 1080) it is a relatively easy process to remux the streams into a blu-ray folder.
Exciting news about possible Return Of The Jedi leads as well, thanks again -1!
Good to hear -1, a new hope for Star Wars! :)
They're on MySpleen, if you ask, someone on the forums might send you an invite.
I have received word that the item was won by one of our allies. I'm not at liberty to disclose any details at this time, so please don't ask.
Getting the gear to do a proper transfer will be the next hurdle.
Score one for the Rebel Alliance!
I'm surprised how much more information there is on the sides of the 35mm scans compared to the GOUT scans
