THE CHOSEN ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (V2 in development) (Released)
Time

Work on a V2 has started

If I manage to survive (lol, I’m in northern Italy, so… coronavirus) I’m starting to work on a V2 of this edit.
The purpose and basic structure will basically be the same. A 3-into-1 Prequels edit, mostly based on ROTS and with some scenes from I and II as flachbacks or Anakin’s nightmares.
It is meant as a spinoff, to be watched after the OT (at least after Empire), so I will not save any reveal. Anakin will become Vader.

The main differences here will be:

 1. Added deleted scenes about the earliest stages of the Rebellion (Padmé, Bail, Mon, etc).
 2. Color correction remade from scratch.
 3. Different Episode II flashback (the one from V1 was awful).
 4. Way more Original Trilogy music tracks.

Here’s my first opening test. The opening is basically the same, I think it works so well, and similar to Rogue One. We see Maul arriving on Tatooine and then Anakin being recruited by Qui Gonn and Obi Wan.

Star Wars: Bookends - A Prologue & Epilogue to the Original Trilogy

Count me as one of the people who opposes “saving the reveal”. Despite what Lucas says, the prequels were never meant to be watched before the originals. All 3 prequels were marketed exclusively to people who had seen the originals, so the movies were obviously intended to be watched in release order. “Saving the reveal” is a complete non-issue for people who watch the movies the way they were actually intended to be watched.

I get what you’re saying, but if one wants to experience the whole universe (with tv series as Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, etc.) it would be nice to watch everything in chronological order while keeping all the plot twists.
If we are talking only about movies, then ok, we could watch the OT and then the PT, or follow the Machete order, but if one wants to watch also the tv series…

Yeah, for sure the first thing is to choose between some kind of spin-off (you can keep all revelations) or a movie meant to be watched before the OT (then Save the reveal).
An idea I had some time ago about this, to strengthen the concept of Anakin being dead without editing Ben’s words in Episode IV would be to use General Grievous’s chat with hologram Palpy. I don’t know if it’s doable, but…

 1. As you said you could hint that Anakin is dead after the duel on Mustafar by removing him with Vader’s suit.
 2. You could remove any mention of Anakin being Obi Wan’s apprentice and Anakin calling him “master”.
 3. You could remove Grievous’ arrival on Utapau (keep the mystery until Obi Wan’s arrival on the planet). Then (and here comes the hard thing) you could cut the duel between Kenobi and Grievous and keep the general alive. Then you place the hologram chat with Palpatine in the third act, and replace the “But the loss of Count Dooku” with “But the loss of Skywalker”, to hint that Anakin is dead. Finally Palpatine replies “Soon I will have a new apprentice, one far more powerful”.

I totally see your points, man. As I said, I’m really intrigued by it.
Anyway, I’m not sure if I remember correctly, but I think I kept the scenes of Anakin obviously being Vader, because that edit was just meant as a spin-off, like Rogue One, meant to be watched after the OT.
Do you plan to add some color correction? And maybe some OT soundtrack?

I definitely don’t want to sound arrogant or else, but the Prologue idea is basically the same of my Chosen One edit (regardless of the result). Mainly an edit of ROTS with some flashbacks to Episodes I and II, mostly during Anakin’s nightmares, and during the short pre-title opening.
I’m really really interested in what you’ll accomplish.

Wow, thank you!
About your criticism, I have to entirely agree with you.

 1. Endor’s outline is not always perfect. That’s because of how I masked the atmosphere, and the feathering…
 2. The music and audio in the first act are not that smmoth.
 3. And also Yoda’s theme… after releasing it and watching it some more times, I don’t love the new music, exactly because it’s too triumphant for a death scene.

Thank you again for the comment 😉

As snooker and others pointed out, I meant some of the coloring and the odd backgrounds out of focus (mostly on Endor’s ground).
I don’t really mind the ships. On the contrary, I like most of those shots. And I love this puppet Yoda (just to give my opinion from another post which I read). The lighting on his face while he is dying is something you cannot achieve with any level of CG.

Sorry if I was misunderstood. Not being native english speaker, sometimes it can happen.
PS: TNT, instead of filling everyone’s post with odd suggestions, you could always try to make your own edit. Just saying…

EDIT RELEASED

PM me for links, if you’re interested.

Personal thoughts:
First of all, I came to hate the visual quality of the original ROTJ. I dislike most of the coloring, and how many things look oddly out of focus.
Regarding the edit itself, it’s not perfect, but I hope it’s at least enjoyable. Without a doubt it’s been the most challening edit of mine so far. There are many things I’m satisfied with, and some others I’m not.
I hope to get some feedback from you.

Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread

I have an idea for an edit of a scene in The Last Jedi: remove the shot of Yoda lifting his finger before the lightning hits the tree just as Luke is about to burn it, as well as Yoda hitting Luke with his cane. That scene creates huge plot holes, like for example, why didn’t Obi-Wan decapitate Darth Vader on Bespin with a lightsaber? It also contradicts the scene where Obi-Wan mentions that he cannot interfere in The Empire Strikes Back, as it turns out that Force ghosts can actually interact with the real world.

It is supposed to happen only in certain places, strong with the Force (like Ach-To).
