I’m trying a new sun effect for Endor?
Thoughts?

Hi everyone and Happy Easter!
I’d like to have some opinions about this color correction.
Do you think it’s better to just desaturate the desert and make it look like The Mandalorian’s Tatooine… or make it less red and more yellow like these screenshots?

Really sorry to hear about this. I totally understand. An insane amount of my friends and people I know lost their jobs too here in Italy.

They are both really really good.
I also like how you cut Kylo’s scene in between Rey’s training. I did the exact same thing, but your flashes are wonderful.

Just a question: do you already have an idea about how the Coruscant shots in ROTJ could fit in an edit?
Why has Luke gone there? There’s no second Death Star?

Considering that even in TFA there was some blue in Starkiller base’s corridors, I will probably change it 😉

Slightly changed color. Less yellow.

Reduced blue tonality.

Changed blue color to be more in line with TFA.

Reduced light blue tonality.

Small update.
Right now I’m working both on this one and my ROTJ V2, with the Disney+ version (1080p) as a base.

At this moment, the movie goes like this:
-Same opening with Kylo on Mustafar and then Exegol, but Palpatine is not mentioned in the crawl. I’m still not sure about all of this. I’ve read some interesting ideas. I don’t remember if it was Snooker or someone else who came up with the idea of placing Palpatine’s reveal for later, and simply make the Resistance & First Order interested in Exegol only because of the Sith fleet. That’s cool.
-Anyway… Finn and Poe with the Falcon are gone.
-On Pasaana Rey remembers that she killed her parents with Force Lightning. She tells that to Fiin (“I… I had a vision”. In the original she is talking about the Throne of the Sith, but in my edit it cuts to the following scene, so that we realize that she told him about the flashback on Jakku).
-Ochi and the Dagger are just a plot instrument to make the characters find the Wayfinder. Rey does not hear voices when she touches the dagger, and Ochi is just a random guy.
-During the Force connections with Kylo we still hear that all happened because of Palpatine. He wanted to find Rey, so her parents left her on Jakku to protect her. But while they were leaving, she killed them. I removed any mention of Palpatine wanting to kill Rey.
-Rey is still a Palpatine.
-All the chat about Finn wanting to tell something to Rey is gone.
-On Kijimi, I reversed 3PO’s voice and added subtitles. He clearly says that the Wayfinder is in the Throne Room. So there’s no need for the ridiculous “Oh, the Dagger is shaped like the Death Star!111!1!!!”.

Love it.
Coruscant has always been one of my absolute favourite planets (probably because it both reminded me of Trantor… and also because Coruscant is a Latin word).
Really looking forward to this first act.

I got my hands on the Disney+ version, and scaled it to 1080p.
Don’t know why but I actually love the new color correction. Faces especially look pretty good IMHO. And space scenes look blue like the original blu ray, but still somewhat different.

Just add an alien voice to 3PO (or change it somehow) and subtitles so that he clearly states that the Wayfinder is in the Emperor’s throne room.

My jaw dropped.
And I’ve only watched stills from TPM. That Dooku’s hologram…

EDIT: My favourites are Padme’s new balcony background, DS new hologram plans, Vader/Kenobi lightsabers, those falcon shots… And god, I LOVE those Coruscant bakcgrounds on Endor.

The white vignette around the flashbacks are a little distracting. If you still wanted to use this idea maybe make it more similar to the flashes she has after stabbing the training ball, where it’s mostly unaltered shots with more audio-heavy editing. Perhaps even reuse the reverb effect of Luke saying “you killed them” from ESB, that way it’s used over the flashes of Kylo killing his father in addition to Rey killing her parents for more parallels.

That’s a neat idea. To address the issue of Rey having little reaction to this reveal throughout the film, I think there are sufficient hints sprinkled throughout the film that she knows more about herself than she reveals, for example " there’s so much I want to tell you " - to Leia, “that power came from me…Finn there are things you don’t know” later on after the she escapes Kijimmi she says " he killed my mother…and my father" This could easily be changed to “I killed my mother and father”, bare in mind that I think this plot point would be more effective if we scrap the whole “your parents sold you to protect you”, they should remain scumbags to at least give her a reason for her action, it’s also a nice parallel with Kylo’s childhood where his parents kinda abandoned him as well.

That is PRECISELY what I did in the last days. In the Falcon Rey says “I killed my mother and father”. And just after they escape Pasaana she also tells Finn that she had a vision. In the original it refers to her Dyad-induced flashes, but if we cut that it sounds like she is telling him about “herself destroying the ship” flashback.
The problem with all of this is: Why does she want to kill Palpatine if not for revenge? How do Ochi and his ship fit into all of this? And how can we make Rey react to the revelation?

Oh, I see… I didn’t understand what you meant (not native speaker here).
Well, first things first. I don’t think I will be able to make all the “Rey killed her parents” stuff. Even if the idea can be delivered through flashbacks, the whole plot revolves around Ochi and his damned ship, and there’s not enough dialogue to make all of this flow. Even with Rey herself… we don’t have enough material to show her reaction to this supposed truth, so it wouldn’t fit with her character development.

I think I can make an edit that is the exact same movie but with my color correction, and release it like that. Later I’ll make my own complete edit.

But not during these days. I’m kinda sick these days, and being in Northern Italy I’m getting a little bit worried, eh eh 😄
