The Clone Wars: Refocused [COMPLETE] + Subtitles for season one!
Time

I watched the Lost Clones episode again and it really works well as a mini anthology.

I’m wondering there are more parts of episodes that can be used like this in the future, perhaps the citadel rescue (Where Echo is MIA) can be condensed this way, along with another clone “mission” or two? Or with som political stuff that otherwise didn’t work in a full episode?

Lost clones was very well put together!

There’s not much wrong with the transitions now, just maybe a slower fade to black, and longer time (by a second or two) between episodes.

Also, I was wondering if these intro texts…

As CHRISTOPHSIS enjoys its freedom from the Separatists, the Republic bastion there has been ambushed at the cost of many lives.

Lost on the Separatist mining planet ABAFAR, the tiny Republic Colonel Gascon and his droid infiltration squad need a way home.

On the remote planet SALEUCAMI, Clone Commander Rex of the 501st and a small clone squadron have had a crash landing of their own.

…perhaps they should be a sub heading under each individual chapter title instead of at the beginning? I felt I had almost forgotten the details for the latter two. This would free up more space for a poetic quote or similar about individuality in their place in the intro. Just a thought.

  • LOST IN SPIRIT - The traitor clone stuff from Hidden Enemy in the Christophsis arc - which works really nicely as a single thing cut out of the original episodes.
  • LOST IN MIND - The Gregor plot from Missing in Action in the Droids in the Void arc - with its context heavily simplified into a crash on a droid mining planet.
  • LOST IN BODY - The deserter plot from The Deserter.

I just want to say that these titles are genius

Eddie Dean, in A Strike at the Heart part 2, the final sentence of the intro text is “but the sith lord’s intentions must remain hidden”.

I’m wondering about the grammar there; if the word “must” means that the sith lord APPEARS to be hidden, or that he ‘should’ be hidden etc.

I was thinking that “but the sith lord’s intentions remain hidden” is a bit more concise, what do you think?

I think I just reacted to the fact that the word inspection is used both by the station commander “…squared away for inspection” and Obi-Wan speaking to Cody “How goes the inspection?”, and Cody speaking to the battle droid “We need to inspect the base all the same”.

You could also use both words in the intro text “Rex inspecting facilities during his patrol” etc.

I should point out though, that English is not my first language, so I’ll defer to your judgement in the matter 😃

About the droids reporting 4 clones escaped; it didn’t bother me at all, and if it bothers many members here I’m sure we can find a droid saying the word “three” or “some” somewhere in the series to paste in.

The blue text mentions Rex “patrolling” facilities, but shouldn’t it be “inspecting”?

I feel the “Two weeks later” could use a second or two more black screen before the visuals of the next scene start. Also perhaps surge of music just before this (as we focus on Hevy’s face) to further the idea that 99’s words have landed.

Other than that I was very pleased with everything - it felt contained and better than the three original episodes

I also hate the PT droids, and have cut their voices as much as possible. You might have spotted a couple of ‘roger rogers’ removed from that clip already, and there’re more in the full episode. You do need to put up with their voices when they’re carrying important dialogue, but I’m getting rid of as much trash as possible.

There are audio editors, like Audacity, that can change the pitch of a sound without affecting the speed and vice versa (often used by guitar players for practice). Perhaps lowering the pitch by a few percent will make the battle droids sound less ‘cartooney’?

Info & Idea: Editing '2010: The Year We Make Contact'
Time

I was watching 2010 the other day, and though of a few things for a fan edit project.

I love the film as is, and I don’t feel it really needs any alterations; however there are a few ideas to help it be a little closer in tone to 2001, yet still have it retain its own identity. Pretty much all of these ideas involve the audio rather than the picture, with one exception.

1: The 80s score sounds a bit dated. So changing to classical music (preferably lesser known works than 2001, and more Khachaturian to fit the Soviet scenes) for certain scenes might make a difference. Any suggestions welcome.

2: We have sound in space in this film which was not present in 2001, and could be removed for exterior shots.

3: I never liked the sound of Floyd’s narration; it sounds like it has a lot of reverb and was recorded in another room than the mic. Also I think there is a lot more narration than necessary. So I would edit the narration length down, and to filter it so it sounds like he is talking over the radio and have them played over exterior space-travel shots.

4: I never really liked the “Bowman visits wife & mother on earth” shots; and I’m considering cutting them altogether.

Any thoughts?
