We say "Semi-truck." They say "reticulated lorie."
- Not quite - What you call a truck, we would also call a truck, OR a Lorry (note the spelling). What you call a Semi, we call an ARTICULATED Lorry( which just means the cab moves seperately from the trailer). But nobody says articulated, everybody just says Lorry, whatever kind it is.

We say "french fries." They say "chips."
-True. And what you call chips, we call crisps

We say "soccer." They say "football."
Wrong. The name of the game is and always has been Footbal. YOU call it 'soccer'

We say "baby stroller." They say "pramulator."
-Not really. We call it a buggy or the old style ones like in the cartoons we would call that a Pram (which is short for Pramulator but nobody says that)

We say "gas station." They say "petrol station."
-True. We call it Petrol (short for Petroleum) while you guys call it Gas (short for gasoline)

We say "piece of paper." They say "piece of parchment."
Definitely wrong. We call it a piece of paper. What do you think England is? A time warp to the 1700s?

We in the UK say "Trousers". They say "Pants" (Pants for us is what we wear under our trousers)

We say "mum" - They say "mom"

Just thought I'd add that

Buring AVI's to DVD - Sync issues!!!

OK, sounds as if Nero has converted your AVI into a DVD. (Your description is not exactly what I'd expect; there should be two folders in the root directory, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The AUDIO_TS folder should be empty. The VIDEO_TS folder should contain IFO, VOB and BUP files such as VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01_1.VOB.)

Anyway, this is bad. Nero is not the best program to use for converting video.

First thing to consider; can your player play MPEG-4 video? It may have a "DivX Certified" logo on it or just say MPEG-4 compatible. If so, you're in luck. Simply burn the AVI file to a data CD, and it should play.

If it can't play MPEG-4, then think about getting one that can. Or a modded X Box. Or a laptop with TV-out. Any of these options is preferable to an AVI to DVD conversion.

As a last resort, you can convert. Use another program for the conversion; Nero is good for the burning only. There are hundreds of different methods of AVI -> DVD, everyone has their preference. Start reading the guides at videohelp.com.

So when you say burn it to a data cd, (not dvd?) you mean just burn it in nero using the data thing and not the video or audio option.
Sorry if I sound like a complete noob, but when it comes to all this I'm still learning.

Cheers man, you're a star.

what'a good age to introduce kids to star wars??
Time
Well I post my bit again....just to try and get back on topic. But alas, I fear my time is wasted (and also I love looking at my son with his lightsaber)

My son is one years old and has already seen most of the SW films. Not by choice mind, he's made too by his big ol daddy

Also he now does a pretty good impression of a lighsaber when holding his little toy version. He's seen me with my ForceFX, so now impersonates me with a "wiiiishhhhhh, whooooooshh" which I think is just classic. Good ol' boy

So in answer to your question, they're never too young to watch Star Wars.

Ok.

Because I live in the Uk I have to d'l torrents to keep up to date with TV shows - 'Lost' especially.
For the first 6 episodes everything was fine.
I'd d/l the AVI file and burn it onto a dvd disc using nero. Happy days!

Now for some reason when I burn it onto disc the sound goes out of sync after about 5 mins. (usually when the first commercial break is on - although this is cut from the file, you know where it is)

Does anyone here know how to fix this problem, because watching Lost when it's 1 - 2 secs out of sync is the biggest pain in the arse!!

Thanks

BSG
Time
I'm not going to read the above post, because in the UK they have only just shown episode 1 of season 2. Bloody fantastic. Please just tell me that this season is better or at least as good as the first season.

To think that the fist series BSG was actualy shown over here well before you guys. And because it's a hit over your side of the pond, you get the second series way before us. Shame on you And don't get me started on Lost. They've just shown the klast episode of season 1 here. Thank god for torrents

Any way back to BSG. I missed it when it was shown on tv the first time round but went out and bought the pilot mini series and the season 1 box set together. I had time off work for some reason, so watched the whole lot in about 4 or 5 days. The best sci fi tv show ever. It was just so good to watch them all in one big chunk like that. I did the same with the fist series of Lost. Was on about ep8 on tv here, but manged to get a pirate box set of the whole series and watch them all in about a week with the missus
So I'm in two minds about watching bsg every week, or wait till the box set comes out and watch them all together. Which won't be till the series ends on tv, which is probably in 20 odd weeks I geuss.
And I can't be arsed to d/l the whole lot. I dunno?

Actually I'm an idiot, and I should just watch the bloody program.

Anyways, I've never seen that Obi-wan/Maul desert thing before but it could be photoshopped...just a thought.

That picture of Obi-Wan and Maul first appered in Vanaty Fair back in 98 or 99. I think the picture was just a fancy publicity shot, but it could also have been a cut scene, who knows? It was a whole article about Episode 1, and I can tell you man, I was so excited when I saw that picture. I was like "Oh man this is going to be so good". Then the teaser trailer came out and that was it. It was like waiting for Jedi all over again.

Shame about the end result. If only ol' George had listend with a little more passion to his freinds and colleges, we could have ended up with a story along those above articles lines.

Joss Whedon's Greedo Revenge
Time
^^ You sure about that?

I read in a mag the other day, that due to Serenitys poor show at the box office, that Whedon wants to make more films but are likely to be staright to DVD stuff.

Anyway, I bought myself the Firefly box set the other week, and me and the missus have just started to watch it. We've only seen the first episode so far, and it's pretty good.
