Should be able to accomplish this by formatting a thumb drive to exFAT format, which can be read by the PS4 (as opposed to FAT32 which can’t hold over 4GB and NTFS which can’t be read by the PS4.

It’s not immediately obvious, but your mkv file needs to be in a subfolder for the PS4 to recognize it. Can’t read any media from the root directory. If you’re still having issues, you should probably post in the tech help subforum instead (seemed like it should have been fixed quickly enough that wouldn’t be necessary but… maybe not).
