You don't need a double layer disc, so it should actually cost far far less.
If you're getting a new player, you really should get bluray - the prices are now pretty much the same as DVD and even DVDs will likely look much better played through a BD player.

Yeah, there was some temporary problem with uloz.to - it seems to be fixed now.
Yeah, except they just used the DIGITAL masters which the LDs were sourced from, so short of intentionally introducing artifacts, they could hardly have added any that weren't present on the LDs as well.
Maybe with some spatial denoising filter, because temporal filtering is no good for static grain - the problem is that that would probably lose you a lot of detail as well.

Oh, wow, I didn't even think of that. That would have been so much better to use Dooku on ep2. Also, I think Boba Fett would have been a better choice for Empire.
Well, that sucks. And the cover art is pretty ugly too - not as bad as the 2011 set but not great either.

To me it seems like someone was given the 2002 transfer and tasked with making it look "better" for BD but given very little time and budget to do it, so they just ran it through an automated cleanup, which got rid of the excessive grain of the 2002 transfer and some of the dirt but it of course made the transfer look even fuzzier, so they added edge enhancement on top and then just did an aspect ratio correction and a few corrections to the colors, where fans pointed out errors on DVD (kind of like Luke's green saber was fixed for the SW BD).
Well, that sucks :(
The quality is just ok - when the quality of a movie is extremely high, it has 8TB.

I tried to minimize the impact of the over-exposure when doing the color correction but yeah, compared to the 35mm scans, this does have the issues Puggo describes. But the colors on this print are pretty nice over-all.
I don't think that would work. And the built in noise reduction effect in AE is pretty bad - you'd need some plugin like Neat Video or Dark Energy Antimater for that and even then you'd still need to separate the shadows so as to only clean up the most noisy areas.
