Team Negative1 - Return of the Jedi 1983 - 35mm Theatrical Version (unfinished project)
Time

Not sure if you’re being intentionally thick but on the off chance you really didn’t understand the comment, let me explain - Team Negative 1 is creating a digitized version of 35mm film, just like the DCP of Star Wars TFA you saw in the cinema was a digitized version of 35mm (and 65mm) film, so if you’re expecting this project to be closer to the projection quality of 35mm than the DCP, you’re going to be disappointed, just like you must be disappointed with all Blu-Rays and other digital media.

Just to clarify, I too regret the near-loss of film as a projection medium (I’m actually thinking about driving 6 hours to another country to be able to see The Hateful 8 in 70mm) but if I can’t see the movie on actual film, good digital projection is the next best thing - I actually keep a log on projection quality for all projection rooms I visit and I can tell you that the quality of digital projection can vary greatly, so if you only have a couple of experiences with DCP and they were so bad, you may just have stumbled into bad ones - the projection of TFA 2D I saw looked amazing and it was very film-like.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Cool - it seems like it will be at least a couple of weeks before v2.0 is ready, because the subs will take some time and I won’t have time to work on it until after new year, so I think it’s likely that the new mixes will be included 😃

Also, I think the question about the '97 DTS mixes wasn’t about using them instead of the '93 mix but instead of the BD, so it was about the LFE channel only - correct me if I’m wrong but I think the DTS tracks don’t have a discrete LFE channel, so they probably wouldn’t be the best sources for LFE.

As for the '93 mixes having to be upmixed, during my pre-TFA marathon, I watched Despecialized on a 5.1 setup for the first time and I must say that h_h’s 5.1 up-mixes have better spatial definition than many discrete-channel 5.1 mixes I’ve heard on other movies.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I don’t think he’s screened it yet. But I know for sure that he’s busy working some really awesome job right now, so I doubt he’ll have time to get me references any time soon but maybe in time for v3.0 I could get them, yeah. I’ll probably work on all three 3.0 movies at the same time, because ESB and ROTJ should almost be there in their v2.5 versions but SW will have to be done pretty much from scratch, so I can work on that and leave the final color correction for last.

Yes, that’s right - they may have seen a version where a member here fixed a couple of the worst bugs but there’s no official v2.0. But the official v2.0 will essentially be the same as the workprint with just the most jarring bugs fixed, so if you’ve seen the WP you have a very good idea of what v2.0 will be.

Technically he didn’t shoot first, ONLY han shot, greedo didn’t get a chance to do anything. 😛 There was only one shot.

I’m so tired of hearing this semantic argument - Han Shot First sounds much better as a phrase than Han Was The Only One To Shoot and it’s not semantically wrong at all, because when two people are about to do the same thing, one of them has to do it first and whether or not the other one does it second or doesn’t do it at all, the first one still did it first.

@Moviefreakedmind: I’m sure you wouldn’t be breaking any rules by posting the link if you clearly said that it may contain TFA spoilers 😃

Possibly - I’m actually considering doing multiple color-versions for v3.0 - an I.B. Tech version, which would keep the colors similar to v2.5 (and the I.B. scans) and a more balanced natural looking version (I’d need a more snappy name for it - maybe, since it seems like the Eastman prints were more like that, I could call it the Eastman version), so maybe I could also make a home-video version with colors closer to the most common VHS relases and the '81 crawl but I’m not making any promises 😉

Quite often, when a movie came out on HD DVD first, it had a crap transfer made for DVD, which however didn’t have much if any digital manipulation and for later Blu-Ray release they would add DNR and EE to that same transfer to “improve” it. Like T2 or the first release of Spartacus (Spartacus got a beautiful new restoration recently and it looks fantastic on BD).
