Yes. And yes please on the subs!

Nice looking print, wonder how much it will go for. Maybe Poita or AMPS will check into it:

The images look like someone took the Blu-Ray and added film scratches to it.
I don’t think he’s going for the look of the negative in terms of color, that would make no sense - the negative doesn’t have any color-grading done.
It’s definitely a reel change. I’m not sure why they sometimes appear to be handmade scribbles, such as that, rather than a clean oval.
My guess would be that the original reel-change marks were on the damaged missing frames, so someone made new ones.
BD ISO is a safer bet.
I don’t think you can actually add other videos though.
It works on Macs too.
Yeah, that’s pretty much the plan.
I hope so! No promises though.
That would be awesome because of the different language and other alternate audio and subtitle tracks. But how would you handle the frames missing at the reel changes?
Yeah, I think it’s not smearing - it’s a light leak.
No problem - I don’t expect to have the video side done until the end of the week. 😃 Looking forward to hearing the new mix!
Any chance of a re-upload?
Well, I did a little experiment applying a bit of denoising and making the colors more saturated and “technicolorized”:

It’s just a fun experiment though - I love how grainy it is, because it represents what the print would look like in a cinema and the colors do need a bit more attention, which I think they’re gonna get for the BD25 release, but not necessarily in this direction.
Neat Video plug-in. And then I added some finer grain using the Add Grain function.
I did that - I wanted to test what it would look like - also, I didn’t use Dre’s tool - I just did a quick adjustment in AE without even looking at any reference. 😃
There’s definitely something to that Technicolor look though 😃
I’m pretty sure that is one of the fixes TN1 are planning for the BD version though.
Yeah, my only complaint about the TN1 version is that the colors could still use some work, especially the skin-tones, which are downright purple at times and I can’t believe that is what they look like on the actual Eastman print (Ben’s hut is a great example but there are other places where this is an issue as well, mostly in the first half of the movie).
Here’s just a really quick tweak of a couple of frames:

But I agree that it would be a mistake to try and make it look like the IB prints.
Well, I support them but I do love your work, Harmy.
I guess I was just getting used to the idea of this preservation being “definitive”, if there truly can be such a thing. And the concept of it being somehow supplanted by Team -1 makes me feel a bit defensive.
I know. It’s silly.
I actually never considered it definitive in any sense of the word - I always said it was meant to be a placeholder version until something better came along and now it has and I’m glad for it 😃
Good news for those who prefer the polished image quality offered by the Despecialized Edition to the more authentic (in the sense of watching a fairly clean 4th generation copy in the cinema) Negative 1 version, is that I can now make a version of it, that will be both closer to the original version and also completely HD. It will take time though, so I recommend that you enjoy the Silver Screen Edition, which is an amazing achivement million years in the making, on your screens, this winter. 😄
What is the password for Team -1’s 35MM RAR archives?
negative1
Pretty simple really - Unlike Despecialized, Team Negative 1’s version is 100% native HD with fairly high consistent quality and it’s 100% original version. It has some color issues but so does Despecialized.
The official BD is of course cleaner and has a bit more detail, so I’m hoping Despecialized v3.0 will surpass the image quality of the TN1 version with the newly color-corrected BD as the main source and some further cleanup of the 35mm unaltered inserts. But for the biggest purists among us, Team Negative 1’s release will likely stay the go-to version.
Harmy, can you explain why you consider this superior to your v2.5?
Actually, v2.5 is probably better quality than this in the scenes where only the BD was used but this is a nice consistent HD transfer with no non-HD materials, so over-all, I’d say it’s better.
Wow! Looks great! Until I can make a new version of Despecialized (and this will be an invaluable asset in doing that) I would definitely recommend Team Negative 1’s version over Despecialized v2.5.
Thanks Harmy,
You’ve been a big part in giving us some publicity. We appreciate your comments.
We anticipate great things for the future, and there will be more news about it soon.
Team Negative1
This is awesome! People working together instead of having egos collide. Nice work to both! I’m looking forward to checking this out.
Of course! We’re all just trying to get the best possible version of Star Wars here and that’s all that matters!
And I’m sure, even with v3.0 of DeEd, this will stay great many people’s preferred version, because it’s beautifully authentic, and that’s awesome! There’s no competition here 😃

OK, I’ll put it on teh and then make a post saying I recommend this instead of DEEDv2.5 and it can be found the same way as Despecialized 😃
