Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

Ken just doesn't seem to get the "lair" thing, does he:

You keep saying that we call Lucas a "lair" but we have no reason to call Lucas "a place where a wild animal lives, often underground and hidden, or a place where a person hides," which is a dictionary definiton of the word "lair."

lair noun

a place where a wild animal lives, often underground and hidden, or a place where a person hides
a fox's lair

the thieves' lair

Sorry to spoil the fun Frink but I just couldn't stand it anymore ;-)

RETURN OF THE JEDI 1983 THEATRICAL VERSION RECONSTRUCTION DVD by Harmy (MKV, NTSC DVD5 AND PAL DVD9 AVAILABLE)
Time

OK, everyone, just FYI, the mp4 was something I put together quickly to have sort of a preview for x-mas, a workprint no.2 if you want, and there are a few issues that will be fixed for the DVD. Also the quality of the mp4 is nowhere near the DVD. In fact the compression makes it look so bad that I don't think it could ever be preferable to the GOUT.

Now, the cutting is all done, but it'll be a few days (more like one or two weeks) before the DVDs are out.

Basically every shot in this film has been colour corrected to some degree.

ROTJ has the same blue shift as SW and ESB but it isn't as noticeable because of the over-all warmer colour palette. It is my opinion that empire isn't any more blue-shifted than the other two, it is only way more noticeable because it is less colourful and uses a colder colour palette.

Hang on, I thought about it and decided it would be better to use a high bitrate 2.0. The 5.1 is just an upmix anyway.

Also if you remember, I decided against using hairy_hen's mix because it deviates from the original.  So I'd prefer if we could use Belbucus' stereo, which, to my understanding, is pulled straight  from laserdisc without any changes, so if encoded as a high bitrate 2.0 AC3, it would be the same audio as the GOUT, only way better quality.

Hang on, what kind of audio bitrate are we talking here? Could you maybe make an AC3 with PAL speedup and the same bitrate you'd be using and up it somewhere for me, so I can use it too, it would be nice to have a higher bitrate audio than the GOUT and to have the same audio on both PAL and NTSC versions.

Oh, right, it would be better but I don't have the NTSC audio. So, if you have the NTSC GOUT, maybe you could rip it yourself.

Or if Chewtobacca says he can't do it that way, I ask anyone who has the NTSC GOUT to please extract and upload the audio somewhere.

And if that doesn't work, there's always the possibility of just demuxing the 2.0 audio from ROTJ PDE and using that (it is a PAL GOUT audio conformed to NTSC speed, so it would only spare you the conversion).

Thank you, Chewtobacca, I appreciate it, I have no experience with PAL to NTSC DVD conversion and frankly, no interest in learning. It should be a straight forward conversion though, one film, no menu.

OK, now, tell me who is interested in the mp4 (the quality is surprisingly good for 700MB and the resolution is full anamorphic, not as good as a DVD but better than your average DVD rip) so I can start sending links as soon as it's uploaded :-)

OK, guys, merry x-mas. Here in the Czech Republic, the baby Jesus brings us presents and he brings them in the evening of 24th December after dinner. And so, in the evening, I'll hopefully have finished uploading the first encode of the final version as a Christmas present for you. It will be only a 700MB mp4 but of course the final DVD will follow in a few days.

As I am in PAL region, the PAL version will definitely come first. Actually, if someone'd like to convert the PAL version to NTSC for me, it would make me very happy.

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions regarding Ady's 1980 theatrical reconstruction of the empire strikes back.....

What exactly was restored with this version of the film? Where there improvements to the color timing, etc? Also, this is not the special edition I would imagine?

Lastly, where can a person download a copy of this film?

Wrong thread, pal:

Also, the reason it looked great in the cinema the first time around is because you were seeing a relatively blurred presentation. With HD displays now, old matte work doesn't stand up.

Sorry but that is complete and utter nonsense, if you saw a 70mm presentation of ESB in 1980, it would have been sharper and more detailed than 1080p.

OMG I love this! George didn't think there was any future in dead Han toys :-D

And also the article: the final film of the first trilogy, "Return of the Jedi"

No episode VI or the second trilogy or whatever Lucas calls it now.
