Sure, I'm gonna do that once it's all done :-)
Sure, I'm gonna do that once it's all done :-)
I'm not using any histograms, I just colour boost the GOUT and then adjust the SE by hand. I could post some screens later. Or you could check out my workprint if you want, Zombie, although I've already changed the colours quite a bit. It's also that in some scenes the SE is too bright and it's tricky to darken it because of the crushed blacks and overblown whites.
Not 100% no, there will still be some little SE left. I don't think there will be an MKV version because that would mean a separate encode and upload andyou can play the m2ts file from the AVCHD on most players that play MKV.
Wow, that's a cool picture, I want to steal it for my project :-D
Also, I'm glad to hear you're making good progress. I really liked your Empire, so if the others are as good as that, that would be great :-)
Working on colour correction of those scenes now, (using the idea from this thread boosting the saturation on GOUT and then using it as a refrence) I can say that I think the problem is that the SE is more cyan than blue and it's also quite discoloured, i.e. everything has a cyan tint to it including people's faces. When you boost the saturation on the GOUT, the snow gets blue but other stuff retains it's natural colours and that's very tricky to get out of the 2004 SE.
I think one at a time because I know how I hate when DJ is waiting to release the whole trilogy. I hope he won't do it the same with the Blu project (which would also kinda solve his uploading problem :-) )
You may also have noticed that this is no longer called PARTLY DESPECIALIZED EDITION v3.0, it is now DESPECIALIZED EDITION v1.0.
As for the soundmixes, no I won't be using any others, Just h_h's 5.1, 1993 2.0 and 2.0 CZ DUB.
It will be an AVCHD and it will sync with GOUT so anyone can easily remux these with any desired soundmix and I want to keep as much space on the DVD as possible for video.
As for Mos Eisley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agv_jHkkzho
A physical BD disc would be a coaster for me at the moment, so I'm seriously hoping for an upload. If not, OmegaMattman's AVCHDs will have to do, Empire was pretty good and he said he'd have the others by the end of the month. But I'm seriously hoping I could get yours DJ.

To me, the Despecialized editions have always been more about removing the offensive and fake/out of place changes that were made in the special editions (Jabba, CG Cloud City entrance, Sarlaac beak, etc.) while preserving the technical improvements of the effects (ie. matte lines, see through spaceships, color suppression, etc.).
That's not really the point of the despecialized versions to me. If I had a high quality enough source or the ability to make one, I would prefer to replace every single change down to the last matte line, but because I don't, in some shots, where the changes aren't so noticeable, I simply prefer to settle for the SE rather than substantially lower picture quality. And then in some scenes, where the changes are really bad, I'll prefer to go with lower picture quality over the SE.
Yeah, I believe that my current colouring (which is a bit different from the workprint) of the hoth scenes is pretty close to correct.
Thanks for the comments guys, I really appreciate it :-)
I have a system: I went through 005's comparisons and downloaded all the pictures of shots I considered doing and divided them into two folders "TO DO" and "TO MAYBE DO" and whenever I had a shot ready to put in the film, I moved the corresponding picture to a folder called "DONE." :-)
I already have the folders ready for SW and man, will that be much more of a challenge, almost three times more shots than for Empire.
Well, no I let most that was just cleaned up effects be. I didn't really touch the snow battle, I considered it for a while but when I saw the amount of shots and tried some out even, I decided not to. You can of course still give any suggestions and I'll consider them but I can't promise anything :-) I'm pretty much happy with the current level of despecialization, I just wanted to make sure I didn't forget anything that I wanted to do (like I did with the last CC window shot, which is now fixed in the project file).
I definitely like the last version best.
Also, corelian77, there were 6 samples already and the one you refer to as the 1st was actually the 4th. Just FYI :-)
Brilliant, guys, thanks :-)
Awesome! I hope it will get released soon :-)
Thanks for the patience DJ. It's weird, MU usually works the best for me.
I took a look at your new sample and to me it looks exactly the same as the last one (i.e. awesome) and I can't wait for it's release and definitely will be waiting for that to use for my projects, not the V3 DVD)
Yeah, exactly, guys, use Jdownloader and all should be fine.
Thanks 005, I was hoping for your keen eyes to check it out :-)
Thanks guys, it's up now and PMs are sent. Can't wait for you suggestions.
I just encoded a workprint of Empire. It is a 3GB mkv and it is a finished cut (short of one shot which I forgot to replace before encoding) with the whole film colour corrected and it has the colour boosted GOUT as PiP in the upper left corner for reference. I'd like the testers to check the following:
A) Any shots I may have overlooked for despecialization (I'm looking at you 005 ;-) ).
B) Sync with the GOUT.
C) Colours (both in relation to the GOUT and in terms of colour consistency between shots).
So if you'd like to help me out and be a tester, please say so here (please don't PM me, my mailbox keeps getting full :-) )
I already noticed some stuff and fixed it, namely: The Wampa cave scene being too purple and having forgotten to remove the last window in the Cloud City, so if you notice something else, please let me know. I'm now uploading it, so I should be able to send links in the evening.
Actually, the aliasing is the only thing that could still do with improvement and actually in movement it's way more visible than in a still picture. But I have no idea about scripts, so I'm afraid I won't be able to offer any suggestions. Let me just add that it is amazing what you've been able to squeeze out of the GOUT, when I compared it side by side with the actual GOUT DVD, it does look like the difference between HD and DVD.
PM sent :-)
Wow, DJ, the last sample is absolutely stunning.
Well, I try not to use that term outside of this forum (because a lot of people don't know it) but sometimes it's hard to know what else to call it. I usually call it "the shitty DVD" or "the DVD from the laserdisc master" or of course "the 2006 DVD" but that is all quite long. What do you call it?
Well, I think that's the whole point of the name GOUT. It is supposed to be funny and it is a name for a diseased release ;-)
