Vegas is one of the easiest video applications to learn how to use. That is why it became so popular so quickly.

Wow, it is? I must be one of the stupidest video editors then because it seemed incredibly complicated to me, so many buttons and windows and not enough space for anything on my laptop's 15.4" monitor ;-D

Well, actually I'm not sure if you should take my path, I'm using an amateur program called Power Director for editing because my computer keeps crushing when I try using Sony Vegas (which is what most people here recommend). For the FX work I use Adobe After Effects. There is an array of other programs I use, like TS muxer, RipBot or Yamb but if you want to start editing you should check in the Technical Discussion forum, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for there.

Thanks guys. The 1980 soundmix provided by Mattman works perfectly, so I'm uploading right now. Empire contains 5 soundmixes now:

1) hairy_hen's 5.1 purist mix @ 448Kbps AC3

2) 1993 2.0 mix @ 320Kbps AC3

3) 1980 2.0 mix @ 224Kbps

4) 1992 2.0 CZ dub @ 192Kbps

5) 1997 2.0 CZ dub @ 192Kbps

I put in both CZ dubs simply because there was space for them. This gives anyone space to replace them with any desired soundmix.

OK, I just finished encoding and everything seems to work fine. Thanks to hairy_hen I've got his 5.1 mix and a 2.0 1993 mix at 320Kbps. I also added a low bitrate Czech dubbing as usual but the file encoded a bit smaller than I thought it would, so there's still space for at least one more sound mix depending on the bitrate. Could anyone help me get some?

@ Harmy, I thought you were getting your scenes from that AVCHD project anyways, at least that is what I thought I read from you...

Well, from the samples I've seen I think your project will still be a bit better (no offence to Mattman) but if I can't get yours or it will be really difficult to get it, the others will have to do.

how many different scenes of the same thing do you need LOL, it seems you are asking for clips in every single thread here.

I'm doing rotoscoping, so I can utilize several different sources in one shot and I'm trying out what seems to work best, so I need clips from all the different sources I can get (for example my latest version of the speeder entering Mos Eisley combines the SE, the GOUT and Puggo Grande) and I need just clips cuz it would be pointless to download a whole film just for one or two shots which I may or may not use.

The video alone is already encoded at an avg of 16500, and weighs in at 14 GB's(for Star Wars anyways)

14GB is an ideal size to split into two DVD9 AVCHDs with an array of high bitrate AC3 soundmixes included but I understand your desire to make this a blu-ray release and will gladly accept whatever you decide to release.

GOUT, Automated Theatrical Colouring, and a Reference Guide

Yeah, there's definitely some fading and that's why in scenes like the wampa cave there is no other colour than blue, it basically looks like black and white film with a blue filter over it and I don't think that's quite right, so while it looks great (better than I expected actually) it's probably not the most credible colour reference.

You can upload the video and audio sperately to keep file size even smaller, and let the downloader chose which audio stream(s) he prefers.

That would be great. I don't really care for PCM or DTS-HD audio, because I don't have the audio equipment to really make good use of them, so downloading just the video and muxing it with h_h's AC3 would seriously cut the download size for me and I could probably split it into two AVCHD DVDs.

Sorry, man, reluctance was a wrong choice of word, I definitely didn't mean it that way, I know you're willing to share your work, it's just that you said you weren't sure if you'd be uploading and that you would maybe prefer BD donations. And a BD would be a very expensive coaster for me, because I, nor any of my friends have a Blu-Ray ROM (yeah the technology is a bit behind the times here - not that you couldn't buy BD equipment but it's about 4 times more expensive than in the USA, so having even a BD player is quite a luxury.)

Again, sorry for the misunderstanding. We cool?

Looks real nice, and with DJ's reluctance to share online, I'm really happy someone else is doing such a fine job upscaling these and in AVCHD too, which is much more convenient for me than Blu-Ray, thank you!!!

And may I ask (and I noticed this on all the upscales not just yours) why are you leaving those black edges on the sides? I must say that to me they're pretty annoying (nothing I couldn't live with though). :-)
