I do indeed only have the PAL vesion of the EoD doc. Could someone maybe PLEASE get the battle of Yavin clips (and anything else potentially useful you can find) from the NTSC version for me - preferably already upscaled to 720p? They look so much better than the GOUT except for the interlacing in the PAL version (and it's also a definite proof that there are viable materials for a new OOT transfer).

Great, I just got it from joshdv but only in NTSC DVD res and quite heavily compressed, so an HD upscale would be awesome (assuming that it's from the THX WOW DVD and not a LD transfer). I went through it and there may be some shots which I could use.

OMG, I just checked out the roto brush on youtube and it's amazing!!! I'm actually considering an upgrade just for that. And also AE doesn't seem to have changed as much as photoshop has.

@hairy_hen: I considered that but unfortunately all shots in the EoD doc have some kind of weird ghosting issue. It may be some interlacing thing but I don't know how to get rid of it.

@WShawn: Actually I'm using a much older version of AE (AE 7.0) and I can't really afford to upgrade. And also, these programs change so much with each new release that I feel like I have to learn to work with them all over again (exactly the reason I'm still using and older version of Photoshop as well). Rotobrush sounds good though.

@Mattman: I don't have it and have never seen it (although I know what it is from reading about it). It could be interesting - from what I gathered, the transfer should be much better than the GOUT.

Is just the sound different? If so, one could use the LD footage with the VHS sound.

I don't really know, the VHS ones always ended with "now sit back and enjoy George Lucas' original vision of..." or something like that. Could you upload the three separate ones? A LD cap would be infinitely better than VHS.

Oh, and sorry Josh, I overlooked the second part of you question. Yeah, I'm self taught. I used to play with Photoshop a lot and I found After Effects really confusing but in time I started doing some simple stuff and figured it out. I'm sure there's still a lot to learn but for that I'd need a teacher I think.

Yeah, I'll still need to tweak the DS explosion a bit but I'm definitely keeping the HD background plate.

@josh: I did indeed rotoscope around Han and the stormtroopers. I'm glad someone noticed because it was a bitch, I spent like 5 hrs working on that sho(i)t. But I'm very happy with the result.

@stinky: I have no plan whatsoever to release this on blu-ray. Maybe if I make a version based on the new blu-rays in the future but the master file HDTV captures are something like 16GB and I'm working from a 7GB 720p encode, so blowing them up to BD size would be totally pointless.

@topper: Yeah, this is exactly the case where the shot jumps around like crazy in the GOUT and also it just looks bad, so I used a screen from the shot from DJ's blu project and I personally think it looks pretty good, though I did just make a new version, which I think looks better.

About the flipped forest shot, I had to rotoscope around the trooper and it's far from perfect, but I don't think I can do any better. It looks OK though and I think it's definitely worth it, because it looks much better than GOUT.

The AVCHDs, will only play in Blu-Ray players and coputers. Empire is also available as a standard definition DVD though and the other two will as well.

I'm not quite sure if this is relevant but I just noticed that while the sky has been completely replaced in this shot, the forest is the same but flipped for some reason.

The search function is one of the few things that really suck about this forum. I searched "colars" and it says 0 results were found, although I'm staring at the word colars written in the last two posts right now and it has definitely been used countless times before.
