Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Actually, it is intentionally like that. I didn't colour time it to the shot of Greedo at all, I timed that shot of Han that Yoo_Too posted and left the Greedo shots to have that same timing. The thing is that there's one shot of Han that is different than the others and I tried to get it as close to the others as I could.

You Too's on the left, mine on the right. It's still far from perfect but it's the best I could do with general adjustment. Though I may yet try to redo it but only I think to match the stray shot even better to the rest:

And to me the skintone and over-all colour now appear much more natural and, what is maybe more important, film-like.

It's just that, temporary. Try again later. And try refreshing the MU page a few times.

My only question would be that the subtitles might look a little too bold, from what i remember of the original?

You need to make yourself more clear. Do you mean the subs in the video or on the picture? The subs in the video aren't final - they were so bold because I tried to simulate the subs in Puggo Grande but then I found some different sources, which I think are very reliable (one of which is the Baltimore screening video but mainly Mike Verta's picture, which I think can be deemed 100% reliable) which seem to point towards a slightly thinner, more rounded font (it's probably the same font in Puggo's but the overblown whites make it look thicker) hence Yoo_Too's adjustment of my subs, which makes it look almost perfectly like the original subs and that's what's in the last picture I posted :-)

I dont know, i dont currently have the gout on my computer to compare.

The GOUT wouldn't help you determine the right look of the subs, because it uses ugly selectable DVD subs, which make no attempt at simulating the original theatrical subs.

the greedo subs originally did sort of a morphing effect?  Cool.  Was that not present in the gout?  I don't recall seeing it in that transfer.  Was this on the 35mm print?

If you're talking about the fade in/out with a blur thing, all evidence seems to point toward no such thing ever being there in SW, so I'll probably take it out. I just thought it looked pretty cool. I've seen countless subtitled films theatrically and I remember this effect being there but as it seems it wasn't there in this case, and since we're getting closer and closer to the actual theatrical subs, I think I'll take it out.

You may also have noticed that I cut back on the shake in the last two videos - it's still there but not as much.

Wow, You_Too just did it again! I just love this guy! Get this, he just sent me this PM:

I know I said I was tired, but I just had to try this before forgetting it!

I downloaded those preview videos of your slowing down Han's head motion, and I thought about this avisynth plugin I've used before called mvtools, which has a function called flowfps which can double the fps of a video. The plugin usually leaves either ghosting or weird looking artefacts unless it's a slow movement, like in that scene.

The result came out great and I'm going to give you both a lossless 25fps avi of the frames (rendered in after effects) and the raw frames, so you can use whichever suits you best.

And it's exquisite. While all my methods were just done by hand overlaying of frames at different opacities with or without sharpening, his seems to use some kind of morphing effect to create the new frames and it works! Video'll follow as soon as it's rendered and uploaded :-)

Oh, it's just that I was standing in a line at the post office for 30 minutes, to pick up the package Troyig sent me (and I'd like to use this opportunity to thank him again!) only to find out that what was waiting for me there wasn't the HDD at all but a letter from the customs office in Prague, telling me that the package will be sitting there until I send them some stupid paperwork :-( With the f*cking bureaucracy here, it could take a few weeks for everything to come through, making me unable to work on the edit properly (I still can but Premiere is hellishly slow and buggy with the H264 source). So it's not strictly unrelated actually but it was unrelated to the problem at hand.

Cobra Kai said:

just out of curiosity, what did Adywan do in this scene?  I watched his "purist" edition recently and don't remember anything weird in this scene.  It looked great to me.

That's exactly because Ady was doing a fan edit, so AFAIK he simply adjusted the sound, as was suggested here.

Sorry, guys, I'm pissed off about something unrelated, so I flipped out a bit :-)

And sorry, Omen, I missed your idea about slowing the whole shot down but I believe that I tried that previously and it threw it out of sync with the audio. I'll see if I can come up with something else. Maybe I'll add some smoke to hide the GOUT part of the added frames ;-)

Guys, are you out of you minds? I will not, under any circumstances, edit the audio because as it stands, any audio track synced with the GOUT (which the wast majority of soundtracks intended for the original version are) will work as that's the whole point. I'm not even using the actual GOUT audio at all. Oh, and the Han scene was done exactly this way in v1.0, I just decided to try and smooth it out a little. And it is definitely not 14 seconds out of sync with the GOUT at any point , in fact, the whole edit is in frame for frame sync with GOUT, with maximum one frame shift - the only explanation is that the timings of the chapters got somehow shifted when you ripped them DT.

And cutting audio is absolutely different from the selling speeder scene, where the only difference is the colour of the sky.

What is the source of "Empire of Dreams" ?
Time

Yeah, that's the exact article I had in mind and sorry, they didn't do their own scans, here's what it says:

Since most of the menu work had to be created before the new transfers and digital restoration of the films themselves were completed, Ling's team had to do their own custom cleanup and degraining passes on the original high-definition transfer footage supplied for menu use.

It's stil quite possible that it was the same case with the 97SE footage in EoD though.

OK, guys, I need your help again. As you know, in the SE they cut out a few frames at the beginning of the shot of Han saying "Yes, I bet you have" just before he shoots Greedo. Now I tried to fill in the moving parts from GOUT but it was just too jarring, so I had to do the same as in v1.0 and slow i down for a bit to replace those missing frames. Now, I developed 5 different methods for that and what I need from you is to tell me which one works best/is the least jarring:

Also, does anyone know how to make a font? I'd hate to have to assemble each subtitle by hand:
