Harmy's STAR WARS TRILOGY "Partly Despecialized Edition" HD. !!! These version are now obsolete - Look for Despecialized Editions instead!!!

You should totally start a thread. As far as I know, there's absolutely no policy against new posters making threads, especially if they've got something interesting to share :-)

As to the blown out whites, that always happens a little and I don't know how to avoid it but it seems a small price for an over-all much better looking picture.

Really? No pats on the back? No youdamans? Messa has a sad :-(

;-) Or did I not mention how difficult that shot was? ;-)

Well, anyway, I decided to change the approach to the cantina matte shot. The Dewback actually moves a little in the original (I checked in other sources, it's not one of those weird GOUT things where things move which shouldn't). So I recreated the matte from an SE snapshot and deleted the CG Dewback and superimposed the GOUT Dewback on top of the matte in movement.

This also required tracking the GOUT gate weave and applying it to the HD matte, so that the Dewback doesn't shake independently. But this should be quite acurate to the original appearance of the shot, which apparently had more gate weave than the other shots (quite possibly on purpose) because it has quite a lot of it even in DJ's stabilized footage.

I'll post the video as soon as it's uploaded.

Actually, I don't think you should take away the DNR at all. I'm pretty sure they DNRed it specifically because of the 3D release and the 2D will most likely be just a 2D version of the 3D master.

Also, given LFL's history, it's quite possible that the new TPM master is 1080p only (not necessarily the scan but the master) so there's no guarantee that the resolution would be higher either.

Here's a shot I really struggled with when making v1.0.

I tried several times from scratch and I just couldn't get it right. Well, I believe I finally got it :-)

http://youtu.be/Bu6ybGQFEv0?hd=1

The Falcon no longer jerks halfway thorough the shot and doesn't become 2D when it gets further away.

I also improved the tracking on the matte that covers the SE Falcon.

EDIT:

Here's a high quality version:

Oh, and sorry, but unless at least ten people express their desire to have this version done, I'm gonna go back to being Lucas and leave it to the fan community to restore and share the PDEs ;-) :-D

In fact, Darf Muffy, this would be such a simple, straightforward editing job that you could in fact just use some free software and construct your own ideal version using the DeEd and the SEs.

I guess I really will leave this to popular opinion here, since I have no intention of watching the PDEs myself. So just give me some brainstorming here and I'll go through the posts later and make up some sort of poll or something for the things I'm not sure about.

One of my professors just posted this on FB:

"teaching is like trying to blow up the Death Star, you can say the same thing over and over and over again, shoot your lasers all you want, but unless it hits the right spot at the right time, your students will not learn. Use English style capitalization for titles, bew!, the title of long works go in Italics, bew!, the title of short works go in quotation marks bew!, quotations over four lines long use long quote format bew!--use the force Brad, use the force . . ."

I realize, that I'm pulling a bit of a Lucas about these - they are a rough draft of the DeEds and they don't exist for me anymore :-D

But I actually honestly don't have them anymore - I never burned them and I needed space on my HDD, so I deleted them some time ago and I can't find the links anywhere and they're probably dead by now anyway. (Yeah, I know, the negative has been altered, so the original elements don't exist anymore... LOL).

But if someone has the links or is willing to re-upload them, I wouldn't mind at all (though, it would be good to make it clear that they are not the DeEds).

You see, it's not really the concept of them not being fully despecialized that bothers me, it's the simple fact that they were really low technical quality - badly compressed and most of the despecializations were only bad (compared to some more recent effort) upscales of the GOUT or at best in ESB of Ady's Reconstruction.

So, not to be like Lucas, I thought about it and I decided to redo the PDEs as well after v2.0s of the DeEds are done. It should be quite easy to just use the DeEd masters and cut some of the SE back in. It would be a version with some of the fixes (like the corridor extension in SW and such) left in but the offensive changes removed.

Now, it is down to discussion of course, what the offensive changes are for each film. For me, it would be all the bad CGI like the Rontos, Dewbacks and Jabba in SW or the Sarlac beak in Jedi and any alterations designed to tie them in with the prequels. Those I think are obvious. Now what I'm not sure about are eg. the CGI fighters in the Yavin battle or the windows in cloud city.

I don't see how you could format your HDD to NTSC, since it stands for National Television System Committee and is a video format ;-)

But you probably mean NTFS :-) The thing is that some standalone players aren't compatible with NTFS, though I don't know about PS3.

EDIT: You_Too beat me to it...

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION
Time

I decided to watch Revisited (don't know why, you'd think I'd be sick of that movie by now but I really feel like watching it - but maybe the different experience is the allure of watching ANH:R rather than the other versions right now) and I forgot how awesome Ady's menu's were on the DVD9! Incredible job,Ady! On par IMO with the 2004 DVD menus, which IMHO were some of the best menu work ever.

That's pretty cool, The blue blacks are something that always bothered me about PG. Especially the cockpit shot of Luke looks much better.

And I think a new encode from the original files could improve the PQ quite a lot as well.

I would personally lose the rounded sides as well, since from what I understand they're a side product of the transfer and not a part of the original print, but I understand the desire to keep as much of the picture as possible. And whenever I watched PG, I always zoomed it in slightly to hide them, so I guess I can just continue doing that :-)

I must admit that I'm actually looking forward to TPM in 3D, just for the FX 3D ride factor. I must say I like in your face 3D and I was disappointed e.g. with Avatar for not being enough in my face. I'm, sorry, but if I pay the extra money to see a film in 3D, I want to be constantly aware I'm watching 3D, and forgetting I'm watching 3D is for me the least desirable thing that can happen. I want things to poke and fly at me out of the screen. In fact the best 3D I've ever seen was some stupid IMAX sharks documentary, which was in negative parallax the whole time, so it actually felt like the ocean filled the room and you were immersed in it and not as if the screen was a tank window. It was my 1st 3D and I've never seen anything like it since and have thus been at least slightly disappointed by every 3D film from then on.

Well, I have the KLM Codec pack with Media Player Classic. Play the video in MPC and rightclick on the video, select filters > ffdshow video decoder > properties - when a window with the settings comes up, select "noise" and if you keep the video running throughout the whole process, you can fiddle with the settings and immediately see the results.

Then, when you leave these settings on when you're closing the player and then re-encode the video with RipBot, it will apply those settings.
