Actually, someone pointed this out to me ages ago and now that I stumbled across it, I decided to undo it :-)
Well, it's not "just" a colour change. It is a colour change applied selectively to the flames, which is the same way I had to undo it.
Well, on one hand, it is a colour change, on the other, only a part of the image is selectively altered, so I'd say it's a deliberate change, rather than just a colour-timing issue.
I'm not quite encoding yet. But I know one thing for sure - I'll be exporting everything straight from Premiere, so I'll need advice on what settings to use there.

Really? While I agree that there's definitely room for improvement, I prefer the films over the books. And I definitely disagree with Jackson being CGI obsessed, or at least it reflecting on LOTR. IMO the LOTR trilogy is a perfect example of balanced use of CGI in symbiosis with other techniques - Vast majority of places in LOTR are either real locations, beautifully made sets or stunningly detailed miniatures. A lot of the creatures were done using make-up instead of CGI, like the orks, those are just beautifully ugly and where CGI is used, it is usually put to a very good use and looks very good.
Is the uncorrected version so dark?
Yeah, on BD that wipe is back to how it was in theatres.
Also, the simple reason faneditors get away with what GL doesn't is that they don't make anyone watch their edit, you can choose to watch it if you want but if you want to watch the film the way its creators made it, you can, I fail to see how there can be any argument there.

Well, I feel slightly offended here, you see, I did actively try to get those materials, it's not like they just came to me without asking, so I don't see why people working on other projects couldn't have done the same.
The sad part is that not so long ago, George Lucas was my hero, even after the prequels, I never had any particular problem with them (I actually loved Episode I when I was a child) and then when I grew up and realized they weren't so great, no problem there, I don't need sequels (or prequels) to films I like (I love Forrest Gump and Amelie and I wouldn't want anyone to make sequels to those films), so I wasn't really sad that the SW prequels weren't to my liking, I could simply choose not to watch them. George Lucas was still my hero for giving me some of my favourite films of all time. The problem came when he stared actively trying to take these films away from me as I became a film and home video enthusiast and started really enjoying high quality presentation of films.

@georgec: Oh, man that interview always cracks me up. That is exactly Goerge Lucas of today, he wants it to be a white house and no matter how many people who know what they're talking about tell him it should be a green house, he's gonna paint it white. When George was writing the script for the original SW, he'd show it to his friends and they'd tell him, George this and this is crap, you have to rewrite it and he listened to them and that's why SW was such a success, he didn't yet become arrogant and he was willing to listen to other people's opinion.

Indeed there is a difference. Critics wo don't like their movies are criticizing the movies, or his job, not him as a person (and if they do that, then they are not doing their job). And that's what he's saying.
Well, IMO a good critic not only says that something is bad but also looks for a reason why it's bad and if the reason is the personality of the creator, then the critics are doing their job, if they point it out.

Motivated by his lies, or by their personal tastes and assumptions? Because there are these people too, and by watching many online comments, that's what I see the most.
It seems to me that you get this impression because you don't have all the information, or refuse to acknowledge it and therefore people criticizing Lucas seem like they base it on "assumptions" where in reality, they simply have more information than you do. I recommend reading The Secret History of SW.

Well, maybe not in so many words but have you seen the RLM prequel reviews? And there were others. The point is that if he says that he's not going to make any more SW films, because everybody yells at him all the time and says what a terrible person he is, then if he isn't speaking about people who criticized his films, there is no logical connection there. In other words if he is not speaking about people who criticized his films, he's just rambling incoherently...
Actually, the blacks on the BD are far better than on the DVD. I recently had a chance to see screens from a professionally scanned 77 print of STAR WARS and the contrast was surprisingly high, especially in darker shots.

Well, you need to remember the sources and tools I'm working with here, it won't be 100% like the original, probably not even 90% but it should hopefully be much closer than anything so far.
What else do you think it's about then?
Exactly, it's obvious georgec was talking about the critics of the prequels and that interview zombie cited came to my mind almost instantly and I believe that what georgec says is right, George did basically say in the NYT interview that he wouldn't make any more STAR WARS movies, because people were criticising the prequels.
To me, it seems like a very childish attitude to come to a forum where the vast majority of people don't like something or someone and make it your personal crusade to retort whenever someone says something against the thing/person people don't like there. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you're here because you want the original version of SW released, I just find it amusing how you always seem to pop up every time someone says something bad against the prequels.
OK, I'm finally getting the references I've been waiting for. So far I have one frame for each second of reel1 (and they're not photos of a screen either). I regret to say that I'm not at liberty to share these, so please don't ask me to; but I can say this: I wasn't too far off the mark with the Tantive IV sequence, in fact, I was pretty darn close, but the early Tatooine is probably gonna need some major rework.
