I’m sorry to say I’ve been so busy with work that I had no time or energy to do any work on Star Wars.
We have some big projects ending in September, so I’m hoping that then I could start doing some work on Despecialized.

Also, a question - seeing that there are quite a few subtitle options available - is there maybe some sort of script that can retime GOUT synced subtitles to work with Revisited?
No, seriously, I’ve got to admit I was playing a bit of a waiting game - I was half expecting them to announce an official release at celebration, so I thought I’d wait and see. And now, not only have they not announced anything at celebration, Kennedy actually specifically said they had no plans to release the originals.
I assure you, my men are working as fast as they can but since I actually have no men, that means very slowly. But in light of recent news, we shall double our efforts 😉

In v2.5 of Star Wars, there’s a lot of GOUT sourced stuff left. Like others said before, at the time I made it, there were only a few sample clips available from TN1 but most of the footage still had to be sourced from video sources, either the GOUT or the 97SEs, and there were a few specific cases, where there were only high-def still frames available, like the Dewback shot in front of the cantina. Now that we have full 35mm HD scans available, there 's no need to use the GOUT but the 35mm scans are often still nowhere near the quality of the BD, since that was sourced from the o-neg, so unless I get lazy, I will still be mixing the 35mm scans with the BD footage to paint out the changes in shots where only a small portion of the frame was altered in the SE, like the Ronto shots or the cell block corridor extension.
Well, right now I’m talking a bit of a break, as I started a new job, which keeps me plenty busy but I am planning v3.0 in the future.
The DeEd version is just a 3D recreation using the letters extracted from the GOUT. It’s been done years ago and I did the best I could at the time but it’s certainly far from perfect. Today, I’d go about it very differently and would do a 3D track of the GOUT crawl. But I won’t have to, because we now have HD (and even 4K) scans of the original crawl, so there’s no need to recreate it.
I just moved to a new city and started a new 9 to 5 job, so Despecialized had to go on the backburner for now - but I’m hoping to get back to it once things settle down a bit.

Yeah, those dubs are pretty terrible in terms of technical execution and quality but the translation is indeed better than in the 95 one, especially for Star Wars.
I would actually love to have the 2011 dub despecialized because while I have no nostalgia for it (and the guy who dubbed Luke in the first two dubs plays Han in the 2011 one, which is a really odd choice and sounds supremely weird for someone used to the old dubs) it has the best audio quality, translation, and pronunciation (in the 92 one jedi was pronounced [yeddy] and in the 95 dub it was closer but still not quite there with [jeddy] and there are plenty of misspronounciations like that in both) so for introducing new people to the trilogy, the 2011 dub would actually be ideal. Preferably in 5.1 with the parts with no dialogue replaced with some superior mix, like hairy_hen’s for example. I’ve been planning to do something like that ever since I showed Star Wars to my little brother last year and found how bad the audio quality of the subs currently in despecialized is.
I actually have the 1995 THX VHS set for which the 1995 dub was made but I currently have no means of capturing the audio.
I sure hope not. I think I’d walk out of the theater 😄

Definitely the same master - slight variations like this can easily be introduced in re-encoding and format-to-format conversions.
Yeah - the softer highlights go a long way towards restoring the film-look. It was a brilliant discovery on Neverar’s part.
A lot of work is still being done in 2K - the Hobbit trilogy had a 2K DI for example, despite the live action being shot 5K.
But quite honestly, you’d be seriously hard-pressed to be able to see the difference between native 4K and a good 2K upscale, especially when the footage was shot 4K or higher (and I’m speaking from industry insider experience) and the difference in rendering times between 2K and 4K is immense.
Yeah, I saw a prores 4444 sample encoded directly from the 2004 master and the noise in the image extended into the black bars, so it’s clearly been added.
But seriously though, I don’t know if I have it in better quality than it is on youtube, but if someone downloaded it off of youtube and shared the link, I have no problem with it. 😃
