Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Haven’t really thought about this specifically yet - but here’s my general thoughts for v3.0:
We now have 35mm preservations for that authentic experience of watching a 35mm print in a theater and I personally thoroughly enjoy watching the films that way, and if what I’ve seen of 4K77 so far is any indication, we will soon have extremely good versions for watching that way, so in order for Despecialized to make sense to even exist, it will have to take a slightly different approach.
My plan is still to undo every single change we have found, because I still stand by the argument that if we start picking and choosing which changes are the good changes and which should be removed, there could be a thousand versions and it would not please everyone. But I will try my best to do this in such a way that there are no distracting drops in quality or increases in grain levels, so that it is a consistent experience of watching a remastered release of the original version. If you think about it, this actually makes a lot of sense, seeing as how the main source will still be the official BD (otherwise, it wouldn’t really be the Despecialized Edition any more) which is remastered in this way even in places where no other changes were made.

So, in this case, I will try to make the logos look as close to how they appeared in theaters but they probably won’t “shake like crazy” just as they wouldn’t in a BD remaster.

Thanks - that’s exactly the spreadsheet I was looking for. Though looking at it, I’m not sure how much use it would be in this.
Either way - thank you for volunteering - once we have a couple more volunteers, I’ll write up some more detailed instructions and send them to the volunteers in PM, along with a link to an editable version of the spreadsheet.

I don’t think that’s such a good idea - I think I need maximum one volunteer per reel, so they can keep track of the shot numbers and such - random people working on it randomly could end up pretty chaotic.
But mainly, the idea was to make it public for viewing but not for editing - the internet is unfortunately full of assholes, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all that if the table was public for editing, someone would intentionally sabotage it just for fun. 😕

Guys - I could use some help - I remember some time ago, someone was working on a shotlist for the SW movies and I can’t find it. But what I’d really need is someone helping me catalogue all the shots that need despecializing and making a system that will make it easier for me to keep track of the shots and what they need done.
My idea is this table, where I could keep track of the progress on all the shots:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NwFnvrRp3CnyDOdr9W1__8PLBGwH8WOKkl8mjke8LQs/edit?usp=sharing

So, would I find volunteers, who would help me by going through Doubleofive’s galleries and putting all the shots down in this table and looking them up in GOUT and BD and putting in the timecodes?

When this is done and I start working on v3.0, the plan is to keep the table public, so you guys can check on my progress and every once in a while, when all shots in a sequence have status Pending Final, I want to post the sequence as a work-print and only after I get positive feedback on it, I will mark the shots as final.

This will make you guys more involved again, like in the old times, and it should help keep me more motivated. 😃

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>
Time

Ady, I hope to be able to scrape together some funds to donate soon. But as I now work as a VFX compositor in Nuke, I can also offer my help with the compositing side of things, should you want it - if you’re planning to recreate the edit pretty much as it was but in HD, there’s sure to be a lot of 2D compo work to be done on ANH:R HD.
Also, as you said you started working on grading ANH, have you seen this: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Neverars-A-New-Hope-Technicolor-Recreation-V1-Released/id/16256 ?
Neverar really managed to do something special there and I will definitely be using his grade as a basis for my next Despecialized version - even if you aren’t necessarily going for the Technicolor look, Neverar’s work would be a much better starting point than the raw BD and I’m sure he’d be happy to share the lossless files with you 😃

You know, the problem is a link to the Ultimate Introductory Guide, which contains the links in it, is in the first post of this thread and it’s pinned to the top of the FB page - it would be hard to make it much simpler than that short of actually directly putting the links on FB, which is probably not a good idea, as someone mentioned above.

STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Another small issue I noticed was that in the shot at 01:18:33, which otherwise looks beautiful, the clouds in the bottom center of the frame have a very low-res-upscaled and over-sharpened look to them.
EDIT: Just blurring them out a bit helps a lot IMO:

Ady, there’s some funky low-frequency color noise in the background of the shot at 00:24:35.
I noticed it when watching on my projector and it was a lot more visible there than it is now on my monitor but it’s still there and it took me right out of the movie.
The artifacts are likely to have already been there in the BD but they were brought out when you added a more yellow glow from the sun.
A simple low-frequency denoise pass should solve it nicely without affecting the overall detail. I have some great tools for this, so if you send me an uncompressed version of that shot, I’d be happy to give it a go for you 😃
