Just know that I am not going to apologize for what I believe.

Lucas may have wrote it but the lines were delivered by Padme.

How about this one?

"This flag stands for freedom and I live for what it stands for."

or this?
"We're rascals, scoundrels, villans and knaves.
Drink up me 'earties, Yo Ho!
We're devils and black sheep, really bad eggs!
Drink up me 'earties, Yo Ho!

Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A pirate's life for me."

Sorta reminds me of that line in Casablanca as Claude Reins is being handed his winnings "I'm shocked to find that there is gambling going on here!"

Since you yourself admit your intentions of aquiring a copy of thee film in question too, aren't you engaging in piracy yourself - especially since Australia doesn't have a fair use law.

Amen. That was a nice tribute and very, very accurate.

Especially about other Browncoats. Some of them are veeeeeery devoted. It's scary and admirable at the same time. Trek fans used to be that devoted, Star Wars fans used to be that devoted until the generation got older and the newer fans were merchandised to death.

I'm sorry if rocks come my way too, but I have to agree with Battlewars. I've never liked anything Joss Whedon has done. I know he wrote/contributed to a few episodes of Roseanne, which is a show I really enjoyed, but I hate Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. I have lots of friends who love these shows. I've watched them at times with them. I'm one of the countless people who've been generously loaned a boxset of Firefly to kindle the flame of fandom...kappooee!! (I watched the WHOLE thing, bored to tears at times.)
These ensembles he creates for his shows! They all just happen to be thrown together in this crazy life? Riiiiiiiight. I know, I know - lots of shows/movies have ensembles, but there's something different about these...it just seems cookie cuttery to me.
And the characters seem too GOOD (Firefly). I know they're not written exactly go-od, but I don't believe them. They are good.
AND -- I HATE it when people compare Mal to Han Solo! ggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
I much prefer the new Battlestar Galactica. But I am only a mild fan of it at this point.

Hey, I'm a Browncoat.

But I only discovered Firefly late, since Fox kept messing withthe show. I only got to see the first episode when it was broadcast which was actually the third one. So I did not get to see the show in it's entirety until the DVD set came my way. I thinnk Joss Whedon wrote some of the most brilliant pieces of television in along time with Buffy. Firefly fans have become more devoted than any other fandom lately. Trek has died away thanks to Rick Berman, and Star Wars is now just a pop-fueled money machine that has lost it's soul. Firefly was a series that fought against the odds, was embraced by fans, critics, shut down by an uncaring and idiotic Network, yet to this day still attracts devoted fans. Most of which are a lot more outspoken than I am.

As far as Battlestar Galactica goes, I just can't bring myself to watch it having very distinct memories of the original. Not that I was in love with the original, but if they intended to make so many drastic changes, why bother calling it Galactica?

The retail DVD of Blade Runner is total smeg. And bare bones with no special features.

The new HD that people have been getting is an improvement from a broadcast source, better sound and incorporates special features that have never been incorporated in any version of Blade Runner before. Big difference.

Well if that makes me a pirate...

well there's a reason my nick is named after Captain Harlock, Space Pirate

I have seen the Holiday Special!
Time
I remember the first time watching the Holiday Special and thinking, "it's almost over." after about 20 minutes. Then it went past 30 minutes, and I thought, "Oh it must have been an hour special." then it went past an hour. That's when it dawned on me that a network actually devoted 2 hours for this.

This to me went way beyond bad to just plain evil. It should be used for torturing prisoners to make them talk.

ROTS and the Oscars!

Must really annoy Lucas, no matter what he says about awards. When you listen to the commentary of the PT practically all he talks about are the special effects. So it must be a blow to his ego, if not his, ILM's.

Hopefully this will serve as a wake up call to ILM to not churn out crap and be competitive. It used to be that ILM in te credits meant good special effects, but now I approach it with reservations. I never realized how much ILM lost their edge until The Hulk. Before the movie, ILM did a presentation at Wondercon, bragging how good the Hulk was going to look. Not onlydid the movie suck, the main attraction wasn't believable.

"Stay on target. Stay on target!"

You know for a second, I thought this thread got back on track, but it's the same as before leading nowhere.

And if anybody is interested, I am more liberal than you can possibly imagine. I'll leave it at that.

Blade Runner HDTV (Released)
Time
UPDATE

I burned another disc at 2.4x which is the slowest speed my burner burns at and instead of using Nero Express used Nero Burning Rom and set it for DVD-ROM. It burned fine, and it plays excellently. So now I have an uncompressed copy. Anybody else want to borrow it from me can get a shrunk version, cus DVD DL is still too expensive to just pass out. Those documentaries are great, considering I've never seen a documentary on Blade Runner in the first place.

Anybody else having probs playing this on a standalone player?

Ive tried 3. It keeps wanting to load but never does on my Momitsu V880-DX. It loads the opening welcome on my JVC SA-600 then instead of going to the menu, it partally loads a green frame for theatrical previews and is frozen with the music from the menu playing. It does the same on my Phillips 642, but when I press stop and play again, it loads the menu. Damn that player will play almost anything.

Unfortunately it's my Monitsu that's my main player and upconverts to 1080i

My alternative is to run it through Shrink, I guess.
