If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place
Time

Remove the admin badge from the bottom of my posts and they fit right in with all the rest. Yet somehow, I’m abusive and hostile and everyone else is a victim.

replying to some of you in kind is beneath me and maybe I shouldn’t do it, but at the very least, it makes those of you criticizing me for it hypocrites.

I didn’t want to get too involved one way or another, but this post is a bit of a tipping point for me. Let me at least try to explain where the others are coming from.

It is precisely because you are an admin that people feel this way. Far as I can tell, you want to be a normal contributor, but your status as admin prevents that. You, more than anyone else, are an example for how the community should behave. If you are overly-hostile, it doesn’t matter if they were hostile first, you are the admin and should be setting an example. You often bemoan the way the others behave, but you yourself admit that your posts fit in with all the rest, so why should you expect any different…?

It is not hypocritical to hold administrators to a different standard.

I certainly agree with this:

This forum meltdown has been very frustrating to see. I believe people’s egos are getting in the way of things. I can see both sides to the issue, but telling people to drive into a tree is sooooo not cool.

But I think I should repeat what I said in another thread (which I thought was in this one, oddly enough):

I think we should just move on. There’s no use continuing the argument. Threads archived, users banned… It’s been settled. That goes for everybody. We all have our reasons for being upset, and to us, they’re just as valid as anybody else’s. But nothing productive will result from continually poking the bear.

Theatrical prints are typically three generations from the negative.

This is indeed a special screening print struck directly from the negative. It spent most of its life in storage and was maybe only projected a few times. The low generation is evident when you see the minimal grain and sharpness. It had next to no dirt on the print as well.

Wow, that’s amazing. I wonder why it exists. Can’t wait for this to show up on the spleen!

Oh, wow… I just saw that a lot of folks were banned today. I’m a bit saddened by this, because this place has really helped me cope with a lot of stuff over the years, when all you need is a good laugh. Now, that’s not to say the experience has been perfect… I’ve felt a great range of emotions reading the posts here, but I don’t think a mass-banning was the right way to go about it.

I’ll definitely be posting less often, but then again there’s less to respond to.

Very much agreed, Anchorhead.

This next episode will be a true test. They’re going to go visit Rosa Parks. Will they be historically accurate, or will there be a lot of revisionism? I’m going to guess a bit of revisionism.

What do you mean?

I’m guessing the show will greatly simplify the situation, playing into the great myth you’re taught in elementary school. The great Rosa Parks was the one who said no on a whim, and it is all because of her that buses were integrated here in the US. The historical context is a lot more complex and complicated, and interesting. I’m assuming the episode will have the Doctor try to convince her to go through with it, with no mention of those more interesting elements as they go against the prevailing legend.

Really, if we’re going to have an episode where Rosa Parks is hesitant to go through with it, I want a dialogue like this:

Rosa: “Well, they don’t need me, there are others–”
Doctor: “Yes, there are others, and there have been others. But your actions here will reach beyond them. Someone as well liked, someone so innocent, to go through the horrors of your society, will resonate far beyond Alabama. No one else will look as righteous to the nation.”

Or something to that effect. Basically I want there to be some recognition that Rosa Parks was not the only one who was courageous in that situation, that she did not do it on a whim (She and Colvin were both active members of the NAACP), and that the black leadership in Montgomery, Alabama wanted her to do it for the reasons stated above, as they would not be able to gain the sympathies of the courts, whites, and the middle class with Colvin, a poor, pregnant teenager. This in no way minimizes the bravery and injustice Parks endured, but it is the way it happened.

“I’m not disappointed,” Colvin said. “Let the people know Rosa Parks was the right person for the boycott. But also let them know that the attorneys took four other women to the Supreme Court to challenge the law that led to the end of segregation.”

But maybe this is too much to ask for from Doctor Who.

So much for giving it a chance eh Warbler, Handman and co?

If you’re going to take every critical thought I have on the show as me not giving it a chance, you’d best leave the thread, because I’m not going to stop. I’ve quite enjoyed it, actually! And nothing I’ve said about the show has anything to do with what Warbler’s said.
