Should I buy the Original Trilogy Blu ray? I already have the 2004 DVD.

@Handman

35mm release prints were notoriously inconsistent from one print to the next and even from the showing of a print to the next showing of the same print!

It is one of the reasons(if not the main reason) why they have been phased out.

Francis Ford Coppola admitted h could not remember what the original Godfather looked like......who can blame Lucas for being the same with Star Wars.

Despite the inconsistencies you claim, I'd take that any day to the consistently messed-up colors of the BD.

35mm Above......Blu Ray through a Sony 4K projector below:

1. That's a faded 35mm print.

2. I shouldn't have to buy a 4k projector to enjoy a movie.

The fact that the 35mm print is faded does not obscure it's inherent lack of resolution compared to the BluRay( albeit  upscaled to 4K).

That particular shot was an optical anyways.......it was always grainy.

And I agree.....you don't need to buy a 4k projector......an 1080p projector will suffice.

here is a shot as seen through a JVC rs40(1080p projector with fantastic black levels)

Sure, it looks good, amazing even, but is that the way the film is SUPPOSED to look? 35mm film (when unfaded) gives us the best insight into how a film originally looked.

For those that don't already know, the 2D blu ray has a green tint throughout the movie.  The 3D/2D version DOES NOT have this tint.  The 3D/2D apparently has the theatrical color-timing.

Source:  KK650's thread over at the paradox site and I've watched sample clips of each.

Sounds like a screwup to me. How often does crap like this happen to new movies? Usually it's just the catalog titles, right?

As I said in that other thread, I think they're gonna hold onto the teaser and save it for Strange Magic in January.

After seeing the Jar Jar levels of uncomfortableness in the Strange Magic trailer, attaching the Ep 7 trailer to this movie would be epically misguided.

What's misguided about it. If that's the only way to see the teaser, that's guaranteed ticket sales. Compared to increased sales for a competitor.

I think what he's trying to say is... they don't want this movie to sell tickets.

Is this the first time it's been acknowledged like this?

What that it exists? Nah, they've owned up to it for years. At one of the Celebrations they used publicity stills from it on free luggage tags they were giving away.

As for a blu-ray release. That will never happen. It was shot on tape, not film. So there's no version of it that would exceed 480p.

A DVD release however...

No way would they ever put that out all on its own. That's extras material for a 7-film box set.

I'm sure Ep7 will still have a lot of cgi in it. It'll simply be the way Abrams utilizes and combines physical stuff with digital that feels more true to the OT, I'm guessing.

The Ronto and Jedi Rocks don't feel true to the OT at all.

True, but he never mentioned them.

but he was responding to the claim that the SEs go against the approach being taken with TFA

 Read my second sentence.

I did. The SEs cgi is very intrusive.

 Yes it is.

True, but he never mentioned them. He was saying that he thinks the CGI in Ep7 will be used in a much more non-intrusive way. Think more Jurassic Park than Avatar.

Help Wanted: Rare Original IB Tech print of Alice in Wonderland (1950) Found!

There is a IB technicolor 16 mm print of Dumbo available on eBay for $2999, a little rich for my blood but perhaps it could be bought to be scanned if enough people wanted to pitch in as we did with the Alice print.

$3000 for a 16mm print? I don't know that much about film prices, but that sounds very expensive for 16mm. I'm sure I'll get called out on this, though.

Although, if we were to get it, maybe one of the talented folks here could use it to adjust the color timing of the BD. To my knowledge, 16mm has a lower resolution than BD.

George Lucas Interview with Charlie Rose (29/10/14)

Even though he's no longer the same Lucas who wrote and directed the original Star Wars in 1977 (he's very far from it now actually) it's still way more interesting to hear him talk about Star Wars in interviews like this than it is to actually watch his post-1989 movie work.

Are you the same person that you were in 1977? Do you wear the same clothes? Read the same books? Listen to the same music? Hang out with the same people?

If not, then why do you impress on others to remain unchanged?

If yes, then oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

We all still like Star Wars.

Abrams and crew seem to be going in the opposite direction Lucas may have taken based on the PT... more focus on story, character development, practical effects, etc.

Really? We've got a title, a YouTube video of The Millennium Falcon, a couple of leaked photos and sweet bugger all else and from that you have inferred that this film is going to be like Ibsen in space. That's some imagination you've got.

Back when that post was made, we knew even less. Though, optimism doesn't hurt...
