Everybody's Top Ten Favorite Movies
Time
  1. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966)
  2. Amadeus (1984)
  3. Chinatown (1974)
  4. The Graduate (1967)
  5. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
  6. Star Wars (1977)
  7. The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
  8. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
  9. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939)
  10. Singin’ in the Rain (1952)

Some of these were tough, since I’ve probably got over 100 favorites, but these are generally the top.

EDIT:

1. Amadeus

2. Star Wars

3. Empire Strikes Back

4. Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan

5. Toy Story

6. Grand Budapest Hotel

7. Amelie

8. Chinatown

9. Birdman

10. The Maltese Falcon

I evidently already posted in this thread. Some of these choices are odd, like Amelie and Birdman, not the ones I’d choose for a top 10 anymore, but the rest are still up there, just not in that order.

So, all the original TOS FX shots weren’t lost forever? Can we get a redo on that remastering thing? 😉

Yes, please!! I hate the new CGI shots!

There are SOME of the Enterprise shots (in front of a blue screen), but definitely not ALL of them.

It’s not all bad, it’s just that I’m fairly new to Trek and I feel like someone who grew up with the special edition of the OT. Also, in every comparison shot I’ve seen, I prefer the original version. The 60’s aesthetics are a big factor in my attraction to the show and I find the new space shots totally jarring when cutting back or forth with the original locations.

Also, dig those stars!

The recomp looks nice, but maybe it would look better if the ship had more contrast too it? It looks a little flat.

They all sound like idiots.

Full disclosure, I really enjoyed the RLM review. It was probably the first time I felt like I was in the room with them.

Can you sum it up for those of us that couldn’t make it past the part where they all make really obnoxious noises?

They didn’t like the characters, and the standalone Star Wars movie wasn’t really a standalone movie. It’s a movie for fans, not for anybody else.

SW - A+
ESB - A+
ROTJ - A
TFA - A
TPM - A-
AOTC - B+
ROTS - B

Changing this a bit. At the moment, I’m feeling Rogue One fits in between TPM and the rest of the PT, which might be mostly because I’m bored of those.

The scores are essentially (I feel) incomplete. Especially AOTC. ROTS sort of annoys me in a way because it feels quite un-Star Warsy in places (with all the epic choirs and tracks like “Padme’s Ruminations”), though I do think for the most part it’s rather consistent and a lot of great moments don’t even make it onto the OST. AOTC on the other hand tends to be boring, and though it has an amazing theme that works throughout the score (unlike ROTS), the whole climax is basically unscored which is a huge minus.

I agree with this so much.
Those scores are hard for me to compare, so my rating:
ESB
SW/ROTJ
TFA/TPM
RO/ROTS/AOTC

I think I’ll have to agree with you here, it’s very hard to compare these, but I just felt something empty or off about some of the others that my ranking is essentially identical to this one.

We have our very first anthology film and people are already complaining about fatigue.

I don’t think the fatigue would come from Star Wars entirely, it’s more an extension of all the other stuff the film industry is doing, specifically with Marvel, and the other Disney properties. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference. So it’s less the first anthology movie, and more the 23rd “cinematic universe” movie. This is not the fault of Rogue One at all, but of Disney’s handling of their franchises.

In any event, I’m saddened to hear this news. I’ve always been an admirer of her Singin’ in the Rain and in her other films. Her role in film preservation also struck a chord for me. She and her daughter are missed.

IIRC, wasn’t Debbie the one who tried to convince the new owners to save the old MGM backlot from being torn down?

I would not be surprised in the very least if she did.
