Yep, the New Frontier and Longbow Hunters are both great books.

Just finished reading them. Good stuff, very entertaining, good times, even though the Jack Kirby style artwork of "New Frontier" looks a little too much like Pokemon for my taste. The artwork in "Longbow Hunters" is good though, reminds me of the Batman VS. Predator stories.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

I actually do feel some degree of temptation to see FF: ROTSS, as the SFX on the Silver Surfer looked very good, and I hear Laurence Fishburne does a good job voicing him (Silver Surfer's body performance was done by Doug Jones, who played Abe Sapien in HELLBOY while having his voice dubbed by an uncredited David Hyde Pierce - and then taking over as the voice of Abe in the animated feature HELLBOY: SWORD OF STORMS), but at the same time, I just bring myself to do it.

So, who saw the picture of the new Bat-Cycle for The Dark Knight?

I saw it. Looks cool. Whoever their production designer is should get a medal. Polished yet under-stated, as it should be.

Yep.

Just started reading "DC: The New Frontier". It reminds me of WATCHMEN, but not as dark. Also got Green Arrow: The Long Bow Hunters.

I couldn't agree more. Irish redheads are even a step above the average! We've got the personality to really make it work!!

You are very wise, Prism.

Is it me or does it have kind of a Robocop vibe about it?

Yeah. It's those rubber "armor" pieces. That's definitely not my favorite part. I just hated the full-rubber-suit deal from all the earlier movies. This goes more towards something functional looking at least.

If you got rid of the horns and the cape, it would look very Robocop-ish indeed. I think it's the new neck thingy.

Yeah, he can actually move his head a little bit! Does this mean the end of the infamous "Bat-Turn"?

You know, I don't think anyone's using this thread right now except us. That's a little saddening.

Well, I guess we can't let two people carry this thread alone. So here is Yoko Matsugane.

Nice. I wish more arists would give Wonder Woman the curly hair, with her being quasi-greek and all.

No argument here.

Don't know if this really belongs here or not, but I hear that Joel Silver has signed on to produce a new film adaptation of He-Man & The Masters of the Universe, with a plot outline rumored to take He-Man's alter ego, Prince Adam, and make him a soldier instead of a prince. Not sure if that's a good idea or not, but even as a longtime He-Man fan, I can honestly say I don't expect to see a new film version of He-Man. I can't shake the feeling that Hollywood will either screw up along the way, leaving the film in permanent development Hell, or even worse, they'll just give us a really crappy He-Man film.

Has there been any discussion on the rumored Justice League America film that Warner Brothers supposedly greenlit a few months ago, set for a 2010 release?

I feel the same way. I think the major studios are just snapping up the rights to whatever 'hot' cartoon/comic property they can get their hands on at the moment. There's even talk of a 'Thundercats' movie. But I honestly can't see any of them working as a live-action film - not even the Justice League...

The thing is, as soon as someone's screenplay is optioned, the media go on about how this or that film is 'in development', when really, the idea for a movie has only just been hatched.

Yeah, I heard about the whole 'Thundercats' as a movie thing. Thing is, movie adaptations of stuff like He-Man, Thundercats, etc., they need to be handled with a lot of care, we need like Lord of the Rings style handle-with-care, and LOTR was kind a stroke of luck for all involved. That kind of luck is very rare.

On top of that, you need a body builder type guy to play He-Man, someone at least 6'2", vaguely blonde hair, blue eyes, at least some degree of charisma, likability, etc. He-Man needs to look like a god among men, and love him or hate him, previous He-Man actor Dolph Lundgren had that god-among-men look to him. You can't just hire a guy around Brad Pitt's height, put him in loincloth and say 'this is He-Man'. That ain't gonna cut it.

Hey, anyone read those comics based on Serenity/Firefly?

According to IMDb, there is a petition to get Doug Hutchison (from The Green Mile) to play Rorschach. Looking at his photo, I couldn't agree more:

He would look the part. A good makeup job would then make him uglier and we'd have a perfect visual. The question is whether or not he could act the part. I always imagined Rorschach with a creepily calm voice the entire time I read Watchmen.

And that is probably why he'd never get the role - it would be a casting decision that actually made sense. Hollywood seems to make less and less of those decisions now.

This test shot of Rorschach that was inserted into a 300 trailer for one frame looks rather promising:

And yet, on IMDb.com, Keanu Reeves is listed as set to play Dr. Manhattan. What the hell, Hollywood?!

That does look like a promising shot. I just hope it' snot true about Keanu Reeves as Dr. Manhattan. I don't dislike Reeves, but he's no Manhattan.

Transformers: The Movie

Also, why is it they tried so hard to secure Peter Cullen (original voice of Optimus Prime) but rejected Frank Welker (original voice of Megatron) in favor of Hugo Weaving? Weaving is cool but c'mon, Welker's the one and only Megatron!

Because the fans wanted him so bad. When Optimus was killed in the first movie, there was a huge outcry. What happened when they changed Megatron into Galvatron? Nothing much. Optimus is the Transformers. Without him, there's no movie. Having Peter Cullen do the voice is just one more thing they can do to get the fans interested. If the fans are turned on by it, they're more likely to get other people turned on to it.

Yes, I remember the outcry over Optimus being killed in the 1986 movie, but I still think having Welker back as Megatron would be better.

That was undeniably hilarious.

I personally prefer the way George Perez drew Wonder Woman in the late 1980s.
