Hate to double post, but word is that Bryce Dallas Howard has just signed on to play the Gwen Stacy character for Spider-Man 3. Makes perfect Hollywood sense - cast blonde haired Kirsten Dunst to play the red haired Mary Jane Watson, and cast the red haired Bryce D. Howard to play the blonde Gwen Stacy. And Gwen died for crying out loud.

Throwing in Sand Man, Topher Grace as Venom, bringing in Gwen Stacy, it all just adds up to what the Hell is going on with this project?

I liked Highlander 1, I liked Clancy Brown's Kurgan (he could easily have beaten up all of the villains who vainly followed him in the sequels), and I kinda liked the TV series with Duncan, but I wasn't big on the sequel or the Raven series.

Useless trivia: Clancy Brown originally auditioned for the lead role of Superman/Clark Kent in Bruce W. Timm's Superman: The Animated Series (1996-2000), but was cast as Lex Luthor instead while Tim Daly was cast as Superman/Kent.

Thinking of Fantasy Movies that came out during the OT

It's the same thing with the Ewoks in ROTJ. Lucas used ewoks because he thought it would be good for the story. He needed a primitive race. He knew he couldn't use wookiees, so what was he to do? If he made a species similar to wookiees, everyone would say it was a copy of his idea of wookiees. So... to paraphrase Lucas "he chopped the wookiees in half, and they became ewoks." I don't think it was for marketing purposes. Yeah, I know kids loved them, but I just can't see Lucas sacrificing his "vision" for cash.

But Adam you proved my point, because the kiddiness of the ewoks hurts the seriousness of ROTJ. The great thing about ANH & ESB is the characters were funny, but they were not made just for comic relief. They were funny in the situation bickering at each other, and it doesn't come out as forced or just for a laugh. The PT Jar Jar was made just for comic relief and it just sticks out of the scenes.

Look at Back to the Future, I love that movie, probably right behind SW in my book, but it is a damn funny movie, but they didn't have any characters in there just to get laughs. Zemeckis used Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, who had great chemistry, and made it funny that Marty McFly's mom had the hots for him. There was nothing forced where you knew the director said, "OK this character is just for humor, that is his job."

That is what Jar Jar was for, and it failed. But there was a bigger issue that TPM really went too kiddy than it needed to, and I am telling you alot of fans who are younger than us who loved it, in 10-15 years are going to cringe at the humor. Trust me, I LOVED ROTJ at 10 years old, 20 years later, I still like it, mostly for Luke, Leia, and Han, but I realize this movie is alot more kiddie than ANH & ESB, and that is one of the reasons it doesn't hold up well. It isn't about just a dark movie, cause ANH is a great movie that isn't dark, its just about not catering to a younger audience that makes the movie juvenile at times, and that is my big beef with TPM.

Too true, all too true.

I'm so scratching my head over this. Yes, she'd make a great Mary Jane just as Kirsten would have made a great Gwen. But didn't they blow the Gwen storyline already in Spidey 1, combining Gwen and MJ into one character? Gwen was the girl next door, and Gwen was the one where Spidey had to choose between the busload of kids or saving Gwen. And unlike the movie, they had some real drama where he chose to save the kids and Gwen died as a result. None of the over-the-top "I can save them both" story that we got.

I have no idea where Raimi is going with this. With Spidey 1, I didn't hold my breath that it would be good, saying "They better not screw it up." I was pleasantly surprised as a result. Then I did the same with Spidey 2, and with MJ looking like ragged-out-hell and "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" not withstanding, I liked 2 even more than 1.

Right now, Spidey 3 has me worried that it's entering Batman & Robin territory. This film has a much better cast IMO, but too many characters = an unfocused p.o.s. I hope I'm duly surprised once again. But I'm not holding my breath. Lowered expectations = greater enjoyment of what you get.

You're not the only one who's worried, ADigitalMan.

They weren't the first, trust me.

Is anyone going to see the adaptations of "V for Vendetta" or Frank Miller's "300"?

At least she has the eyes for it....just bleach her hair, presto!

Not that I have a fucking clue who Gwen Stacy is, or what part she plays in Spiderman folk lore, but apparently she's supposed to have these amazing green/blue eyes!!!

Too bad they didn't cast her as Mary-Jane Watson instead.

ANAKIN: "I have to return some video tapes."

LOL, I love that Pat Bateman reference

Any time. Unfortunately, no one seemed amused with the one where he explained he had to engage in homicidal behavior on a massive scale since there was no way to fulfill his needs.

ANAKIN: "I'm on a diet."
PADME: "What, you're kidding, right? You look great... so fit... and thin."
ANAKIN: "Well, you can always be thinner... look better."
PADME: "Then maybe we shouldn't go out to dinner. I wouldn't want you to lose your willpower."
ANAKIN: "That's okay. I'm not very good at controlling it anyway."
