X-Men 3

Speaking of the different director, as reported by IMDB news bytes 3/20/06 -

Hollywood film-maker Brett Ratner is reportedly close to signing a deal to direct the X-Men spin-off Wolverine, after impressing producers with his work on upcoming second sequel X-Men: The Last Stand. The Rush Hour director is keen for Hugh Jackman to reprise his brooding superhero for the project, and Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels actor Vinnie Jones is also in contention to repeat his forthcoming Juggernaut role. Jones tells MTV, "(Brett) was saying that they'll probably use a lot of the characters. Hopefully (the Wolverine/Juggernaut rivalry) will come into it."

You'd be surprised how funny inaccuracies can be.

Exactly. Else President Bush's speeches would just be dry. Riddle them with "inaccaracies" and it becomes great dramedy.

But this thread isn't about politics, it's about Potter, so how about another caption:

Jackson Shuts Down Neverland House
Time
Pop superstar Michael Jackson has shut down the house on his Neverland Ranch and dismissed some of the employees on the Californian estate. The Thriller singer, who has lived in Bahrain since his child molestation trial ended last year, is not closing the ranch in its entirety. Jackson's spokeswoman Raymone K. Bain says, "It is public knowledge that Mr. Jackson currently resides in the Middle Eastern country of Bahrain. He therefore decided to close his house and reduce his work force. This is a common practice when a residence is vacant for an extended period of time." Thursday, state officials confirmed Jackson would that day pay his Neverland workers, who demanded $306,000 after complaining they hadn't received a pay packet since December 19. However, acting Labor Commissioner Robert Jones warned this figure could rise, as the singer's payroll records were still being scrutinized. Official figures will be released next week, he claimed.

What is his deal? Sure, the plot of LXG was largely mangled, but I've heard good thigns about From Hell and V. It seems to me he is just being difficult about it.

It's not really that hard to see his point of view. He wrote a story intended for a certain medium, and that medium was comics. It doesn't seem that strange to me that he just isn't interested in seeing his work manipulated into another medium, whether the end result may be good or bad.

Yeah, I can see the frustration and embarrassment one might have from seeing a book, comic book or graphic novel you worked hard on being turned into a pile of garbage on the silver screen. Of course, everything's a gamble in Hollywood. That which looks great in a screenplay sometimes just doesn't work well when you try to turn them into flesh and blood imagery, or CGI imagery for that matter.

Harrison: "Do I look like a fanboy?"
George: "No, you look like a 41 year old man trying to immitate a comic book character you obviously know very little about."
Harrison: "Shut up George."

Thanks.

Lois Lane was only scatterbrained around Superman - the whole vulnerability thing - and then she was strong and assertive around Kent. At least, that's the way I saw it, and that's why I liked Kidder's portrayal. I thought she had the dual personalities going pretty well.

As for Hackman, what he (IMHO) highlighted about Luthor was this - his genius; his clever schemes; his pragmatism; and his cockiness. Whenever he unveiled a plot in the movie, I chuckled, and thought, what genius! Of course, the logical leaps that he makes in determining Superman's weakness to Kryptonite are rather dubious, but still...

And then when he revealed his motives, I'd laugh, but I'd also be amazed at how much sense they make!

Hackman's Luthor never struck me as particularly clever. Kidder's Lois Lane seemed dumb even around Clark Kent. She couldn't even spell.

I'm trying to be optimistic about Superman Returns, but I honestly can't see how I and II can be topped. I couldn't see how Burton's Batman was going to be topped either, but the approach meant that it didn't have to - to my mind, Begins joins the triumvirate of great Batman movies - it wasn't better or worse, it was just different, in a good way. But this Superman movie is supposed to be a sequel...mistake number one.

II was a great sequel because it was always intended, woven into the storyline, and filmed simultaneously. III and IV were just irredeemable crap.

What's more, I watched the screen tests for Superman a few days ago - who's going to have better on-screen chemistry than Reeve and Kidder? Who's going to be a better Clark Kent than Reeve? Who's going to be a better Lois Lane than Kidder? Not to mention Hackman as Luthor - brilliant - what a loveable villain!

I think I just killed my own optimism. The only way this movie was going to win was if it took a different approach. At least it's not based on Smallville, though, right?

I think Anne Archer would have been a better Lois Lane than Margot Kidder. To be honest, I never liked Margot Kidder's Lois Lane, she always struck me as being too scatter-brained to be a reporter, not to mention that obnoxious voice. I never liked "lovable villain" Lex all that much either, nor was I a big fan of the bumbling nerd Clark Kent, but despite those quibbles I still enjoy the first two films.
