The Other side of the 30th Anniversary
Time
When this whole 3-d thing starts going, Lucas is going to look pretty lame just converting his old movies while James Cameron is making TWO new movies, actually shot in 3-D. And the 30th anniversary is going to be kind of a joke if the 77 version is still being marginalized. "30 years ago we made a movie, but please don't watch it. Just buy a bunch of stuff that says 30th anniversary on it."

I wasn't thinking they should attack a whole city and kill innocents, I was thinking that when the shield goes down, It becomes a battle over Coruscant, like in episode 3, and a small group slips through to get Palpatine. Except instead of Anakin and ObiWan trying to rescue him, it's Lando and Wedge trying to kill him. Their target is some Imperial compound. They fly in and around an industrial part of town to get there so you could keep most of the existing shots. Anyway, just babbling. Carry on!

It would be great if there was no second death star at all. Ackbar says "for the first time, we have prior knowledge of the emperor's location". (he's like Sadaam Hussein, never sleeps in the same place two nights in a row). "We're going to the heart of the empire, to this particular tower, and we're gonna kill him. The Endor shield protects Coruscant (instead of death star), we have to take it out." Of course the Emperor is setting a trap, with himself as the bait. The throne room scene would need coruscant outside the windows, but if it's raining and nighttime, you don't need to see too much. When Luke is watching outside the windows, instead of seeing the battle, he's seeing hordes of tie fighters roll off an assembly line to meet the fleet. It's pretty impossible to do now, but someday...

5-25-1977 - Happy Birthday, Star Wars
Time
I have that 10 year poster! I was at the 10 year convention in L.A. I was about 13 and my friends were pissed at me for dragging them to it. Never got to go to another sci-fi convention. I saw George Lucas, though and they had an exhibit of props, matte paintings, miniatures, and The Ark from Raiders. That was cool. Man, I can't stay mad at Star Wars for long.

Hypothetical: "Let's do it right this time!"
Time
The prequels did one nice thing, which is they really made me like Return of the Jedi a lot more (the old version). It's obviously snappier and more fun than I-III, but also some of the weaker parts of Jedi are okay by me now. The idea of Luke and Leia being brother and sister was always pretty lame, but now, in context, I actually kind of like seeing the twins reunited. Also, the emperor is a lot more interesting now. Before he was just kind of a typical sneering movie villain. And even the look of Endor is okay. Watching the whole saga over a week, I had so much CGI coming out of my ass, that by the time I got to ep. 6, a simple forest was kind of refreshing.

Star Wars Trilogy tops IGN's "Most Wanted DVDs"

I know this is all old, but it really sucks that Richard Marquand is dead and yet an entire MUSICAL NUMBER and altered ending was put into the movie he directed. How come the DGA or some artist's rights group isn't more pissed off about that? (even if Marquand wasn't a member then, they get pissed over a lot less). And it doesn't matter that Lucas paid the bills, etc. He had a cow when the studio cut 3 minutes out of American Graffiti. Ugh, how can I still be aggravated by this? I thought I'd be over it by now. That bearded fruitcake.

FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!
Time
STAR TREK V. I remember seeing this in the theater, and the crowd reaction was much better than you might think. It wasn't a Trekkie audience either. Despite the various dorky moments and cruddy effects, the audience was basically with the movie UNTIL the very end. There's been a lot of complicated explaining of what was supposed to happen and why it didn't happen, but I think that might be over-thinking it. An 80s crowd expects a space battle and we didn't get it, and we were pissed. So how about an edit of Trek V with an Enterprise vs. Klingon battle intercut with shatner down on the planet. Enterprise blows up the klingons, and Kirk is beamed up in the nick of time. Maybe the battle could be mostly cobbled together from existing shots, (in itself a Trek tradition). The scene where the three main guys stand at the window and talk about Spock's brother could then be pared down to just the 3 of them, and altered to have them looking at the earth instead of the blue God planet, sequeing into the final campire. Just a theory on how to make the end more generally satisfying, and I know Trek fans have a whole laundry list of other beefs with the movie.

.: The MQG Clip Thread :. (video clips from Star Wars movies with changed music)
Time
That clip looked good to me. I really like the emphasis on music for this project. If you ever get to Jedi, the "concert version" of the forest battle has some good stuff that's either buried or not in the movie. It would be cool to cut the battle TO that music, mainly in a way that showcases the beginning and the frantic ending of that track.

Howsabout Nien Nub's dialogue, pitched down and cut and pasted a little? It's a real African language I believe, maybe more samples could be tracked down? It's already a "Star Wars language" and more obscure than Japanese. Might be good for a sentence here, a word there, but this is assuming you want the gungans (or nemodians?) to say as little as humanly possible in the new cut. Which would be swell! Also, there's text-to-speech synthesizers (for blind people) on the internet you can use for free. Figure out the sentence you want to say in English, get a language dictionary and translate it into whatever language you decide on, and type it in. Then you can save it as quicktime file. They have a range of voice types too.
