PG-13 Revenge of the Sith

Let's face it; the MPAA rating system is a joke. Take a good hard look at how films are rated outside the US and you'll discover that their interpretation of what is fit for certain audiences is much more accurate than what the MPAA does. There are many PG-13 films that I will let my kids watch, but there are certain PG films I won't let them watch, and R is absolutely out of the question. I took my kids to see Spider-Man 2 @ the theatres because its true objectionable content is kept to a minimum. They've seen Pirates of the Caribbean and the Mummy movies for the same reason. I would not hesitate to take them to a PG-13 ROTS because I know that it would only get that rating for violence, and the violence is so cartoony to begin with that it wouldn't be an issue. Pirates of the Caribbean proved that PG-13 doesn't have to be an audience limiting factor, but it seems that MPAA ratings have to be tailored to a specific audience (generally speaking) in order for a film to be successful, and that's what makes the system a joke.

Also the recent film The Butterfly effect only has the directors cut on DVD here, does the region one have the original version as well?
Whilst looking i came across this

seems the directors cut is not the final version

But is my point about a directors cut/special edition replacing the original right?

Kind of. The region 1 (Canada/US) version of the Blade Runner DVD is double sided, with one side containing the widescreen Director's Cut version, and the other containing the pan-and-scan original video version (NOT the theatrical cut; the original video version contains some extra violence). As for Butterfly Effect, the region 1 version contains both cuts, seamlessly branched (a la T2:UE and the Alien Quadrilogy). Yuo are right that Ridley Scott has not finished tinkering with Blade Runner, but rights holder Jerry Perenchio will not allow Scott's final cut to be released because he's still bitter over how much money Blade Runner lost when it was first released.

I wasn't giving the owners any credit. It is true that they got themselves into this mess, much like Hollywood producers and studios did with overpaying talent. Eventually the shit is going to hit the fan in professional sports and entertainment and a lot of former millionaires will be jobless. The pot that holds the world's money is not bottomless.

Which is why I like Robert Rodriguez. He understands that not having everything work exactly right may actually make a better film. The textbook example of this is, of course, Jaws; the fact that the mechanical shark didn't work most of the time forced Spielberg to be creative with how he would show it, and the end result was a better movie.
