Kingsama, thanks for bringing back the topic of the separation of church and state. If I am not mistaken, this is a constitutionally enshrined doctrine, embodied as the right to freedom of religion. We have the same right in the Canadian constitution, wherein any one religion or mode of thinking (e.g. atheism, agnosticism) cannot set itself up as a state religion because to do so would infringe on the rights of those who worship differently. This is one of the constitutional rights that means the most to me because without it, I would not be free to worship according to the dictates of my own conscience, something which is very important in my everyday life. *steps off soapbox*

My feeling on abortion is that it's largely unnecessary. I know that any one method of birth control is not 100% perfect, but if you use two together, the chances of getting pregnant decrease phenomenally. I also think that the whole "child from rape" issue could be dealt with just as easily through adoption; why make a tragic event doubly tragic by killing the child of that event. All human life should be given a chance, regardless of the circumstances that brought it into being. The only time that I think abortion should be necessary is if the mother's health is jeapordised by the pregnancy. Now, before you pigeonhole me, let me tell you that I am not one of these radical fools who think that all abortion clinics should be bombed and that all doctors who grant abortions should be killed; I just think that a more common sense approach to the problem is needed. Unfortunately, history has proven that common sense isn't all that common, and that the voice of reason is usually the first to be extinguished. Read Lord of the Flies if you don't beleieve me.

My problem with Ron Howard as a director is that he's far too mainstream, plus as a producer (with partner Brian Grazer) he foisted the abominable live action adaptations of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (which he also directed) and The Cat in the Hat. I have yet to see A Beautiful Mind and will only do so to see another excellent performance by Jennifer Connelly.
