There were other indicators. The fact that it was so low on the radar up until a couple of months before release, which is usually an indicator of reshoots or studio knowledge of a property's non-viability, is the most glaring.

Of course it's been too long; the only way I see this working is if they play on the fact that's it's been so long. A Parkinson's subplot or something of that ilk.

Exactly. As for The Incredibles, while I initially thought it was a great idea to have a Best Animated Feature Category, all it has done is create an animation 'ghetto' in the Oscars. The Incredibles should have received a Best Picture nod, but the Animated Feature category precluded that. And what the hell was up with nominating Shark Tale? Not all 3 nominees had to be CG.
