Interlock allows you to play one print of a film on multiple screens. In the case of my theatre, we ran the film from the platter in theatre 14 down through the projector, back up the platter tower, but instead of running it to another platter on the same tower (standard practice), the film ran through another set of rollers across the ceiling to theatre 8, where it ran down the tower, into the projector and onto an empty platter on theatre 8's platter tower. The procedure was reversed for the late show.
Here's some pics:

The automation panel. The blue button is used during interlock.

The cue detector.

The remote status box. This is how I know if there are problems with any of the projectors (other than focus, sound, etc).

Have I mentioned how much fun this job is?

GUNDARK, DON'T YOU JUST LOVE THE INTERLOCK (tm) SYSTEM ??? WHEN I WAS MANAGING A UNITED ARTIST THEATER WE ONLY HAD FOUR MOVIES BUT TEN SCREENS. I THINK WE HAD ONE PRINT OF PULP FICTION ON THREE SCREENS AT ONE TIME. I LOVED BEING UP IN THE BOOTH AT THE BEGINNING OF PULP FICTION, BECAUSE AS SOON AS JUNGLE BOOGIE STARTED PLAYING I WOULD CRANK THE SOUND SYSTEM UP TO EIGHT. NORMALLY WE WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO TURN IT UP PAST FIVE IN ORDER TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM GOING DEAF. ONE OF THE TIMES THAT I DID IT PEOPLE ACTUALLY GOT UP AND STARTED DANCING. IT WAS BLOODY AWESOME.

On a side note, we received instructions from GL himself that the volume for all ROTS screenings was to be turned up to the Dolby Digital reference level of 7.0. Good and loud.
Yes, I love the Interlock (tm) system. Ours is particularly easy to operate b/w theatres 8 & 14. I have yet to try the three-for on screens 10, 11 & 12, and frankly, that one scares me. What automation system were you using, DAYV? We have TA-10s.

I've got 4 prints of this running @ my theatre, and I have to say that they look about 10 times better than the theatrical prints of AOTC. Whoever took care of the prints must have had a chat with Robert Rodriguez' people; they are nice and sharp, with about as much grain as a film interpositive. Well done, and I'm sorry to hear that others' experiences have not been the same.

As to differences b/w AOTC and AOTC: The IMAX Experience...about 20 minutes worth (romantic subplot downplayed and the film was tightened up overall). At the time, IMAX platters were only capable of holding 120 minutes of film (YOU try lifting an IMAX print: it's 15 perf 70mm, and the average 120 minute film weighs in @ ~500 lbs), but they made changes to their platter system in early 2003 and increased the capacity to 150 minutes. The same was true of Apollo 13:TIE.
