I’m just throwing a bone out here. I currently lack the equipment to do anything about this title, but apparently the latest release on DVD features the extended cut (including the song “When Love Is Gone”) only in fullscreen. Apparently the theatrical version (which is the widescreen transfer included on the current release) excised this song, although I still recall seeing this song in theatres. From the information I have, the widescreen laserdisc of this title has this song. Can anyone out there get their hands on the LD and attempt a transfer? I would definitely be interested.

Exactly. In all honesty, we've gotten to a point where gender doesn't matter in action films. I could point to several examples of action films carried by women or placing women in supporting roles where they're not treated like scenery, but unless the film actually has something going for it in the first place i.e. plot, solid characterisations, etc., nobody's going to see it.

Sex doesn't matter in action films. Plot does. The granddaddy of female-centred action films (or should that be grandmother?

), Aliens, worked because it had a storyline that worked. Stealth was weak because they took W.D. Richter's original script and pretty much pissed all over it. Anyone who wants to point to a trend of women as action stars is pretty much blowing smoke out his anus.

Sorry, but I think they should have left well enough alone. The dogfights represented the cutting edge in special effects in 1977, and still look impressive. If they'd only gone in and fixed the "garbage mattes", I could have lived with that, but the wholesale revision of the scene was a bit much for me.

I can tell you that certain parts of the 3-disc release were completed, but the project is in limbo thanks to Jerry Perenchio. How do I know this? I heard it from the DVD's producer, Charles de Lauzirika.
