Desert Island Discs

Too funny; you can tell from my list that (1) my parents grew up in the 60s and played The Beach Boys and The Beatles when I was growing up; (2) My older brother and I both dabbled in the New Romantic bands of the early 80s; and (3) that pop wasn't the only thing played around our house. You'll also note that the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s are represented in my set.

Info: OT Bootleg DVDs
Time
NONONONONONONONONO!!!! We do not discuss bootlegs here!
This may seem reactionary, but we've had major problems with people trying to bring up the topic of bootlegs; besides, since the SE Trilogy has been announced for Sept 21, and this is the only one available as a bootleg, the point is now moot.

Now that that's out of the way, welcome to the forum. Hope I didn't scare ya away.

This is a little offtopic, but who gave Lucas the right to mess with Episodes V & VI for the "special edition's" in the first place? Last time I checked V was directed by Irvin Kershner, and VI was directed by Richard Marquand(who is deceased).

Simple legal issue. Since film is a collaborative medium, it is not protected copyright-wise in the same way as works of literature; hence, why so many films are in the public domain. As for the moral rights of the directors (which is the real issue here), Lucas could have simply had Kershner and Marquand waive their moral rights, which would mean that they had no say in how the film was altered. Case closed.

Fan reaction has been vitriolic, as you all know. Everybody can find some aspect of the Special Editions that they like, but I've never once read anybody say that they think the scene works better with Greedo shooting first or that they even like it. NOT ONE!!!

How should the sound for the original trilogy on dvd should be master
Time
4.1 is Left, Centre, Right, Monaural surround and subwoofer; essentially the same setup as Dolby Surround, but not matrixed. The original 6-track configuration for the 50s and 60s was Left, Centre Left, Centre, Centre Right, Right, and Monaural surround, with no subwoofer track; this was modified in the late 70s and early 80s to the first configuration described, with the Centre Left and Centre Right channels becoming "baby booms" or subwoofer tracks.
The changes attributed to the 70mm mix have something to do with different sound effects and music cues. I don't have the specifics, but they are buried in one of the older threads in either this forum or the General Star Wars Discussion forum. To access them, you'd have to customise the forum. Hope this helps.
