I doubt if you'll be stuck with it for 20 years, Hal 9000. Given that digital TV will be the broadcast standard by 2006-07, you will either have to buy an adapter box for your old TV or go for a new HDTV if you want to watch any form of programming other than DVD or VHS. It'll come down to whether you want to spend $800 on an adapter that will scale down HD for your current TV, or $1000 for a brand new HD set.

Plot holes in the SW saga

Once again, hindsight. He's speaking from the perspective of NOW, not 27 years ago when ANH first came out. For all we know, stormtroopers bumping their heads in the OT could have been a happy accident that he decided to leave in @ the time, but now he's going back and trying to give that accident meaning. He may do the same thing with some of Harrison Ford's improvised lines in the Indiana Jones trilogy for Indiana Jones 4.

I wouldn't trust anything Dr. Phil has to say about it.

Some cable specialty channels broadcast films in widescreen. In Canada, Space broadcast the original Planet of the Apes in 2.35:1, and TCM in the US has garnered a reputation for showing widescreen films in their proper aspect ratios. There is hope, and HD sets will be dropping in price soon anyway.

Let me try and explain this to you: I could provide concrete evidence that you were wrong and you'd still be convinced that you are right, because your brain has convinced you that you're right after being told that you're right by friends and colleagues. That's what the persistence of refuted beliefs is. Even if your friends were to tell you that you were wrong and that they were only kidding the first time, you'd still believe you were right in the first place. That's what the persistence of refuted beliefs is. Don't feel bad about it though; it's a very common occurence.
